Exclusive: SUPERMAN/WONDER WOMAN #1 Variant Covers

Get a look at the other covers available for the new series.

By now most people reading comics are aware that Superman and Wonder Woman are dating. A lot of focus and attention was placed on their kiss back in JUSTICE LEAGUE #12. These two do have some things in common in the New 52 and it will be interesting to see what Charles Soule and Tony Daniel have planned for the two. Not everyone in the DC Universe is happy to see the two together. Also, will this pick up after the events of Trinity War?

Today, DC has revealed the variant covers to the first issue.

There will be a black-and-white version of the Tony Daniel cover:

No Caption Provided

There will be one by Aaron Kuder:

And, in a fitting manner, Cliff Chiang will also provide a variant cover:

If you haven't already expressed interest with your local comic shop, you might want to do so ASAP to find out if they are getting any and if anyone has already called dibs on them.

Here's a look at the original by Tony Daniel:

Which one do you prefer?

@shallbecomeabattoo: Most people are upset because this kind of spits in the face of the classic Superman who is obsessed (in a healthy way I guess) with Lois Lane.

Personally I'm upset because this is taking time, effort, and creative talent that could have gone to better titles and just pouring it into something they know will sell. It's frustrating when the fans have been asking for new titles with characters we haven't seen much of in the New 52 and DC keeps responding with Superman/Batfamily/Wonder Woman titles. I understand they're out to make money, but this is the sole reason I don't buy anything SM/BM/WW related, if it's something I might be interested in I borrow from a friend rather than give them any more incentive to devote resources to these titles.

Still on the fence about this title. The creative team is solid I love Tony Daniel's art and I've heard amazing things about Charles Soule (haven't read any of his work) and I do like the SM/WW relationship (I don't love it but it isn't bad people are over exaggerating about it and really need to stop complaining.) Plus Zod and Doomsday are going to be the main villains that's 2 of my favourite DC villains but something's holding me back.....Might just try the first issue and go from their.

This is such an illogical attitude and a selfish one. Fans got new titles and they themselves are responsible for cancellation judging by the amount of other titles that did not go the distance.

Yeah DC needs to run themselves into ground and not make money.

And Superman obsessed with Lois is eye rolling and sickening for modern readers like me who are not hung up on reading the same stale coupling over and over.

I gotta ask...

The women paying attention or the guys who have had women give their opinions on this one; DC did this partially to grab their attention, did it work?

I'm going to get this title and I'm going to (probably) enjoy it. I'm not 100% behind the Superman/Wonder Woman relationship, in fact I'm not a fan of it, but it's a cool concept. I'm not going to be like every other negative nancy on here and instantly knock down a series that could be potentially very good.

Also, the covers are awesome.

I'm sorry to burst your bubble, but if you think this relationship is going to become the new standard for Supes in the New 52 you're just deluding yourself. There's no way they rewrite his character so that Lois is no longer his main love interest, it's just not going to happen. What you have here is a brief digression from his norm, which has already caused such a backlash among fans that there is no way in hell they will ever let it turn into something real. As for selfish, you do understand that these are all opinions, and you just asserted yours as if it's also what everyone else wants ("modern readers like me"). You get that, right?

Like I said, I understand they're out to make money. But they've done a pretty piss-poor job of keeping their fans satisfied so far, and while I continue reading the New 52 titles, you can see by the numbers that a lot of people are getting fed up with DC's process. But, instead of trying to rectify this by trying to make other titles better (like they did for Green Arrow by bringing Jeff Lemire on, reversing the title's spiraling sales numbers) DC has decided to essentially cut losses for most of them and put effort into more Superman/Batfamily titles. Because those sell regardless of how crappy they are, Red Hood and the Outlaws proves this pretty much all by itself. The sad thing is, DC will probably make money off this crap. Ideally, I'd like them to upset the Superman fanbase so much that this title tanks and starts taking the other Superman titles with it (you don't need more than 3, he's really not that interesting a character no matter what villains and/or love interests you pair him with).

@battheman008: I like Batman, I just don't feel he and his warrant 5+ titles. WW 've never been a big fan of (I've always loved Greek Mythology and they kind of butcher it) but Azzarello has been doing Wonders (see what I did there?) for her. Superman I rarely find interesting. To be fair, I haven't check out Unchained yet, but I hear good things about it, maybe this week when I'm in store anyway. Shazam is what I really want, and DC is promising more focus on him following the Forever Evil event (same with Martian Manhunter, another popular char they kind of screwed us out of for New 52) but I would much rather either of them get a solo title than we get some more SM/WW relationship time.

I'll be fighting tooth and nail to grab the Tony Daniel's cover.

As for, SM/WW relationship, we all that it's a short voyage, and DC will eventually go back to the bread and butter of having SM/LL together. I guess what I'm saying is that if interested, get involved and if not, then steer away. I don't mind and everyone does have the right to state their objections and opinions, but barking like a wild dog ain't going to change anything.

Yes, how sad DC will make money. And you're trying to speak for fan satisfaction is a laugh too. You can speak for yourself. No one else. Sales speak louder than internet rage. Your strawman argument is funny.

I also really enjoy a switch for the normalcy of character interactions so I find this Superman/ Wonder Woman relationship interesting. Just like how many Spidey fans were pissed about Doc Ock becoming Spiderman, I found it exciting, intriguing, and refreshing. Just my opinion.

@johnqestion: What's sad is that they favor the titles that make them money rather than the ones that actually have some creative integrity to them. Like I mentioned last post, they turned Green Arrow's sales around by bringing in a writer who actually knows what he's doing, something they could easily do for some of their other dwindling titles rather than just saying "Who cares about that one? We can make up for it by cranking out another Superman title." And I hate to tell you, but there's actually a whole thread about whether this is something the fans want and only 1/3 have voted "YES" while nearly 50% don't want it and the remainder are indifferent (meaning still not going to buy it). So just to be clear: I'm not speaking for anyone but myself. Other people have also spoken for themselves, and the general results of that are that this is something the fans do not want.

Also, I don't think you know what the term Strawman refers to as I didn't have to refute any arguments you made, I merely restated my opinion of the situation. I said 1) this relationship isn't going to last 2) DC hasn't been doing a great job of keeping their customers satisfied since the New 52 3) I would like to see them put efforts into developing their other characters and titles like they did with Green Arrow 4) DC will probably make money off this, but I'd rather they didn't so they could learn to do things the right way instead of the fast, easy, money-making way. Please point out the strawman.

I don't understand the negative heat... I mean, I do not like WW/Superman in the new 52 but I'm acutally going to buy this.

If they make a trinity book, I'd much rather read the one that follows the mini series....

But still... OMG why did they have to pair WW and Superman up in JL in the worst way possible? So rushed and stupid.... Bad writing. BAD BAD BAD!!!!!!!

So because we had the rip off (Hyperion & Zarda) who are into a relationship since the 80ties why not trying this with the original ones please DC i know that you were trying to make it happen (like in The Kingdom) but still people like more Superman/Lois and Diana/Steve Trevor relationship so be careful with this kind of ideas but for me why not it's a new direction can be very interesting for a while instead of the same old cliche we know since 1936

Getting it and I agree with Frank Miller...Superman and Wonder Woman match together as much as Batman and Selina does and finally this is official and cannon not like the hint and wishful thinking from cartoons. I'm not looking forward for marriage and kids but I like that they're now a couple with even Lois alive and not having to wait for her to die or distant elseworlds stories.

Why so much hate for this book? I really don't understand why everyone doesn't like Superman and WonderWoman together. I may not be that big into DC or Superman or WonderWoman but I did read the issue where they talk and have that flying kiss. It was sweet and actually kind of made sense. I get it that people want Clark and Lois together and to be fair I thought that too but after reading JL 12, I'm actually intrigued by this and want to see how it turns out.

I have a proposal to everyone: Relax. Chill out for a sec. Buy the first issue or even the first 3 issues and try it out. If you don't like it, drop it.

Loading Video...

^Personally I think that Frank Miller said it best. (minute 5:40).

I think we get so bogged down by "Oh this was canon" and "Oh but its how its always been" and we are so damn quick to dismiss that we lose sight of the goal. The goal is to entertain and the goal of The New 52 was to bring in new readers and tell stories that were fun, different, and exciting. We all grew up with Lois and Clark and we always knew that was the ultimate comic book couple next to MJ and Peter Parker. I say lets see this through. Lets have some fun and see if Superman/Clark Kent can fall in love with someone else for once. Even Peter had a Gwen, a Carlie, a Felicia, and now its time for Clark to have that string of lovers. Maybe down the road Diana and Clark will break up and fall out of love and thats when Clark and Lois come up again.

So lets cool our jets. Lets sit and watch and read and figure out what DC has planned. If you go in expecting it to suck, its going to suck. Just try to have an open mind and just try to enjoy it. If you aren't capable, don't buy it and please don't bash people that will enjoy it. Also, don't threaten the writer and artist because you don't like it. Just sit back and let the numbers run and let the creative team do their job.

I love Superman and Wonder Woman but having said that, Frank Miller is wrong and his answer gives a glimpse into his perverted mind. Not everything is about sex especially when it comes to Superman and superheroes in general. Superman and Lois work because they are "kindred spirits" -Scott Snyder, and in a way so is Superman and Wonder Woman, you don't marry someone because there good in the sack, that alone will only work for so long until it's no longer enough ... you need love and a connection like the one Superman has to both Lois Lane and Wonder Woman in their own way.

The Aaron Kuder cover is really nice, I love the look of the Greek vase. Tony Daniel's cover is still unbelievable, getting all the important supporting cast members on one amazing cover is very hard to be beat.

I'm really looking forward to this series. Charles Soule has become one of my new favorites at DC Comics and Tony Daniel has always been one of my favorite artists and has been hitting it out of the park recently. I can't wait for this series.
