Exclusive: RED HOOD AND THE OUTLAWS #3 Preview

What will the Outlaws discover in the Chamber of All?

You never really know what is going to happen in an issue of RED HOOD AND THE OUTLAWS. We just saw a flashback to Jason Todd's early days of training (after returning from the dead, that is) and now, someone has killed the entire caste of assassins he studied with. You know when the Outlaws investigate, we're guaranteed to get some crazy times.

DC Comics has given us an exclusive first look at issue #3, in stores November 16, 2011.

Red Hood, Arsenal and Starfire enter the Chamber of All to discover what the Untitled wanted--but they'll need to leave their most cherished memories as collateral. All this as the trio draws ever closer to dealing with a threat that's already killed the ancient caste of assassins who taught Jason Todd everything he knows about the art of killing!

Love the story and the art.

I think that Lobdell knows where he is going with Starfire and should be given the time to write the story before people go nuts about how he is portraying her. Also, wasn't Arsenal written as a tramp for most of the 90s? Where was the righteous indignation then?

Best part is, judging by the cover, that the shorts and pixie boots for the early Robins were rebooted out of continuity.

Remind me again why I should care about this.

Posted by jsphsmth

@NyxEquitis: interesting characters, good story, great art?

I feel awlful for foofoing this series the first time around. It's a wonderful book and I want to see what the future is going to be like.

Posted by fodigg

Interesting. I could certainly see the Starfire dialogue as a move against the memory/sensory deficiency. Any movement against that is a good thing. And hey, she's expressing disagreement, she's picking sides in arguments, she's hitting back at Roy. It's still not what I'd call ideal but from this snippet she seems more like a character than she has yet.

Again, not great, but if she'd been more like this in issue one (she was barely in issue two) then I would've been much more accepting of her reboot, even with the personality shift.

GNEEEARGH! ANGER AT THREE ISSUES OF A COMIC SERIES!

Yeah, it ain't great, but it ain't terrible neither. I'll see where it goes.

Gorgeous Art.

Interesting Story.

Little bald person smoking Shisha.

What more could i want! But seriously, RHO is really starting to pick up, so it looks like i'll be sticking along for the ride.

This is one of my fav new DC comics. Jason Todd is cool. He would soon be one of my fav anti-heroes.

I can't wait to see what wholesome hijinks that silly Starfire will get into next!

Without having actually read it I gotta say this is a wonderful looking preview.

So...

This will showcase their retconned past-selves!

I'm just glad they did away with Carrot-top Jason Todd. The most disturbing thing this entire year was finding out that Bruce used to force Jason to dye his red hair black. WTF? Was this established in continuity a long time ago and I just never knew?

We know Bruce Wayne has issues, but thats overtly nutty. Lets just pretend Todd always had dark hair and Bruce just has an affinity for dark hair lads.... ah... that none the less creepy as well... um. Nevermind.

Love the cover, and if that was Jason Todd's Robin suit, that is pretty badass!

@victoriancuckoo: He's one of the people who, on the DC forums, will blatantly ignore what is said in the comic to support his argument. In this case, he is taking the words said as exact written truth as opposed to a joke at Roy's expense.

Kori has no memory problem, as said by Lobdell himself in interviews and as implied by Kori making a joke about it. It's probably not something she would joke about if she DID have a memory problem.

Looks like some sort of pedophile fantasy book. Gross.

Posted by jsphsmth

@weaponmaster: did you even look at the preview or are you just angry with the world?

Posted by Afro_Warrior

@weaponmaster: Can i ask, what part of this book exactly, makes you think of a pedophile fantasy?

Posted by Masta_T

The art is pretty great. Too bad the writing is Godawful.

Of course I looked at the preview. Did you?

The half dressed little boy, the half naked girl-looking starfire, etc, ad nauseum.

@weaponmaster: Sorry, I forgot that they let children post here.

Please go ask your parents about the very adult word you used. They will explain that it is a very serious allegation to make and that you should not do it when it is unfounded.

As per everyone else, art amazing! I'm not completely disliking Kori in this, it's different, but change can be interesting.

@weaponmaster: It seems the artist took some artistic cues from Indian culture with the outfit S'aru is wearing. It's actually common to see young children wearing less clothes in other cultures, especially in hot, humid places like Africa or India. And IMO, Starfire doesn't look like a girl. She looks like a half naked woman. There's not really a close up to clarify that she has particular childlike features.

Yes, they let children post here which is why you are posting. Unless, let me get this straight, you are a goth adult? Perhaps someone needs to grow up and put away the makeup.

Perhaps you should ask your parents for a dictionary for christmas. An allegation, by definition, is unfounded. You do not even understand the word that you are poorly attempting to chastise me about. The irony is palpable.

You seem to be versed in the phrase "serious allegation" though. Perhaps allegations were made about you?

Children wear less clothes everywhere on earth where it is hot and humid so your point is irrelevant. Showing an effeminate boy with no shirt on smacks of pedophilia. The fact that you cannot see it makes me question your moral compass. You are entitled to your opinion concerning starfire and i did not ask for it. If you cannot see her face them perhaps an appointment at the optometrist is in order as her features are quite clear and very childlike.

Not interested in a circular conversation concerning your opinions. I posted my thoughts. if you don't like them, for whatever reasons, that is not my concern.

Posted by jsphsmth

@weaponmaster: You have issues, serious issues. If you don't like the comic, then don't read it. Making pedophilia references is uncalled for just because you dislike it.

I would submit that someone who practices the goth, angry at life, lifestyle well into their adult years is the one with the serious issues. This is a forum about said comic and I will of course make any reference that I see fit. Your childish replies are what were uncalled for. Trying to control someone online is futile and smacks of a lack of control within ones own life.

No, it's really not. It's just about the worst story DC has ever done.

I'm not crazy about it myself but it beats "superboy prime punched reality."
