This issue was very, very dull. Superman just doesn't seem to be going anywhere. Maybe it has lost its steam altogether.

even with merino covering it up they really shouldn't let jurgens draw anything :/

or write obviously

with lobdell who knows... i mean i heard what he said about his ideas for the characters, and that actually sounds like some good ideas. but he's not exactly good at pulling off cohesive story arcs. and god, the bad guys he made up for tt...

I actually have enjoyed this series since issue #1. I don't think it's amazing, but it's a good read. I think things will improve a lot once the creative team shifts again; stability is important for a series.

It's not bad thus far. I'm not digging Superman's clothes, though (just my opinion). Nothing beat the old-but-goodie classic Superman clothes. :)

I can't say I like the whole super-techy costume that forms when he taps the S-shield on his chest or what have you. I think there's some merit in it just being a simple costume. I'm mostly fine with the design (I think it could use more yellow, especially in the belt, and I don't know why the S-shield on the cape is black instead of yellow), but the concept and logic behind it seems a bit overcomplicated.

That said, I'm actually excited for when Lobdell and Rocafort take over. I like Rocafort's art quite a bit. Hopefully, Lobdell doesn't make it too weird or change too many things; I stopped reading most of his other stuff because it got too complicated too fast (like the stuff with "The Culling" and N.O.W.H.E.R.E.), and I really not a fan of Tim Drake never having been a Robin and going straight to the "Red Robin" status.

Really I've liked Superman comics and for better or worse I still get it. But really as I said it's really slow, its still MUCH better than Grounded the art and the story sucked in that series. But it's DC's Editor, how can you write back story to a character in real time and still do current stories in real time also? 'Superman comics' writers have no idea what villains Action will be using or what characters in general. So Superman comics will suffer obviously due to not knowing about what happends 5 years previous to the character and the cast.

Like Action comics declaring Clark Kent is dead yet Superman is Clark Kent in Superman comics. They must have a really good story on how to bring Superman's alter ego back from the dead in Action comics for it to be compatible with Superman comics. The only reason why Batman's comics have done well is because none of them are linked in that way they are all their own stories and free to do whatever they want if it's bad or good.

That's the problem. The Superman title makes everything in Action irrelevant.

Yes, but I don't take them out to an expensive restaurant for something as minor as not picking up their sister. Something that small is more paying for lunch. It's not as if she's a ten year old kid who could get lost. She's a grown woman who could order a taxi or rent a car.

Lois is the head of a major news broadcast. She should never of had Clark do it to begin with if it was so important. She should of sent a driver specifically to her get, called a taxi, or sent "her boyfriend" to pick her up. Clark is her friend. Not her servant.

Then she's having him pay for both her sister and her douche boyfriend. That's not how you treat a friend, and no man should put up with that.

It's like they think it's still 1992. Everything from their art and writing just feels corny. Maybe we can get Geoff Johns to write superman also?

Fortunately you're not the only one. Jurgens' art isn't at its best at the moment and his writing's even worse. I would like to see Johns write Superman but given his committment to Justice League, Green Lantern and Aquaman, that's doubtful. Personally I'd quite like Joe Kelly back as a Superman writer.

I thought the same...... "Oh my.... what a horrible punishment!!! An expensive dinner with Lois and his sister!!!...... oh yes and that other guy too"

I think the punishment is that Clark has to PAY for the dinner they're having.

That's more what I was talking about. If she's not his wife or girlfriend, why is Clark paying for an expensive dinner just for not picking up her sister?

I really think that DC needs to launch another series starring Superman. I mean, Batman has like...5 where he's a main star (or one of them). And, you know, it only makes sense. If this book has been suffering from bad writing, then people will still be hesitant to pick it up once, or if, the writing improves (and I mean dramatically). I think that DC should launch something like Superman: Man of Steel. It'd be a smart business move to try and drum up awareness of the movie coming out next year. I think they should get the same team that's currently on Supergirl (I've heard good things about that title and after sampling the first issue, I was pleased at the writing) or at least one of their better writers who's currently working on only one title. Maybe Higgins?

Thats a good idea.

The only thing I can really say positively about this series is the suit is being drawn better and starting to grow on me. Still don't like the random billowing they do with the cape (like how it will be full and flapping around when Supes is flying so it should be streamlined against his back) and think it would look cooler if the cape was more connected to his back but other than that I'm starting to get onboard with the new look and the fact it highlights his alien heritage more than the old one did.

But I disagree with a lot of you that Action Comics is a better series. Not saying Superman is better, just that I don't rate Action Comics that high right now either. I've never been a great fan of Morrison and Action Comics does not have a cohesion nor seeming progression that I would expect from the book. One major problem for me is the constant switching of costumes, which makes no sense and just makes the series feel disjointed. The other is no sense of timeline (though that's a general 52 complaint but is highlighted in Action Comics by the interactions Supes has with other heroes in some panels and yet in others making it feel like he hasn't met any of them yet and is still getting his feet wet.....again a problem compounded by the switching of costumes).

Overall I hope DC will get these two titles on a better track soon. One of the things I hope they figure out sooner than Marvel is how to present a single Clark Kent. When Marvel broke Peter and MJ up it took far too long for them to come around to a writer (Dan Slott) that could present a now single Peter in a mature and believable way than the head pounding fans suffered from following One More Day/Brand New Day and what is going on with Clark and Lois right now feels exactly the same way (making it even more painful to read because I had a few years of having to read it in Spider-Man titles).

Okay. The preview looks okay, but I can never tell with this title. But the only reason that I am actually going to pick this up isn't the actual action, but because I want to see what happens at that dinner. Btw, it was said that Clark would be getting a new love interest. Does anyone else here think that it's Lucy?

I'm a bit iffy on Clark being with Lucy she doesn't seem right to me for him. Then again it's not really a date Lois roped him into it. and I hate that Lucy and Lois are saying that Clark forgot when he actually didn't know he had to pick her up. Really Superman comics is not the worse writing in comics that still goes to Tony's in Detective Comics but really it doesn't suck either but they seem to not want to progress as much it's mostly because of Action comics being 5 years before. This was DC's idea after all and they are paying for it badly on not being able to be freely able to do anything due to Action comics. Don't blame the writers of Superman comics blame DC's choice of setting Action comics 5 years earlier in Superman's career they can't do too much since they don't have any idea WHAT they are doing in action.

So anyone who says Superman is a horrible comic is really short sighted, because it's not the writers of Superman comics' fault, hell it's not Morrison's fault on Action it's DC's editor coming up with the insane notion you can write back story in one series and future/current stories in another without the writers knowing what the back story actually is.

@SandMan_: Apparently Lobdell is the way forward though I'm not sure of that. I'm not a fan of his New 52 work if I'm honest. It's really not fair that Batman will have 5 good books (but for me, it can only be 5 once John Layman starts writing Detective Comics though. IMO Tony Daniel's solo run as writer and artist was not very good prior to the reboot and hasn't been any better after Flashpoint) But still Batman currently has 4 good books IMO with brilliant writers and excellent artists. And the guy who started DC Comics and all comic books in general, Superman only has one great title to his name.

@SandMan_: Things don't have to get worse for Superman or better. They just have to change things up, move the story forward a bit.

@RedheadedAtrocitus: I don't much like the thought of Clark dating Lucy either. It's nice that Lois is moving onto other love interests but Lucy is not a good place for Clark to start IMO.

I dare say.....I enjoyed Grounded more than this.

Don't you say that....

I reviewed every issue of Grounded and I have to say this comes close to sucking as much as that storyline did. @sethysquare said:

Not sure what to say about this. Would probably still pick it up but I'm not expecting much.

I thought you were looking forward to Lobdell renovating the series? Or are you just talking about this preview? In any case I'm glad I dropped this series.

Im glad Lobdell is renovating the series, that is the only reason I'm picking it up. The previews didn't wow me, last week's issue was alright, Not great but better than I thought. One thing I hate about comic books is when they play it really safe and this is as safe as it can get.

I know. Safe almost always = Dull.
