EXCLUSIVE: First Look At GRIFTER #7

Grifter faces off against Midnighter in the Himalayas, but is Midnighter really Grifter's biggest challenge in issue #7?

Pieces of the Wildstorm universe are gradually coming together as part of the new 52, and the latest will be unfold in issue #7 of GRIFTER due to hit store shelves on March 14th. In the upcoming issue of Grifter's self-titled, ongoing series we'll see the vigilante face off against one of his former teammates: Midnighter. Fans of the Wildstorm universe should prepare themselves for the interaction of these two characters.

Grifter knows about the Daemonites and he has let on to Midnighter that he has uncovered this secret. However, Midnighter can't trust Grifter with this secret. So what's the best way to ensure a secret is kept? To kill, obviously. However Grifter's biggest challenge in issue #7might be much bigger than keeping Midnighter at arms length. What will the bigger challenge be in this issue? Will the two realize that they each have bigger fish to fry and possibly team up? Check out the 5-page preview of GRIFTER below and let us know if you are looking forward to the upcoming issue.

WTF? KILLING to keep a secret? I know they won't, that they'll team up against the greater evil, but still, WTF?

I honestly like the art. I hope Grifter tunes in for a mission with Stormwatch sooner or later, that would be cool. I wouldn't mind if Voodoo joined up either. Then it would be Wildstorm all together again.

I'm already a Grifter fan, but this just looks awesome. Very nice to see him going up against Midnighter.

didnt midnighter and grifter meet before? like before the 52 i think i rememebr they crossed over.

anyways is anyone even reading these titles? my LCS doesnt even really sell these two titles. they seel so low that my lcs only orders 3-5 of each title....its sad really lol even the first prints of both these titles are at my lcs!

A few times. Once, there was a Midnighter/Grifter teamup miniseries. They went to Mars. No, really.

And which 2 titles do you mean? There are 3 Wildstorm based titles. (kinda-sorta soon to be 4) Grifter and Voodoo aren't doing so hot sales wise, but Stormwatch is kinda middle of the pack, doing decently enough.

@JamDamage - It looks like we may be getting a Deathstroke/Midnighter fight in the future, Midnighter killed his son. (or tried to, anyway)

If the two had each bigger fish, I liked to fry and eat them. =P

Cover looks like something Jae Lee would draw. At least Grifter does. I'd actually like to see Midnighter fight someone else from the DC world other then someone he's already faught in the Wildstorm U. Anyone else want to see how him and Batman would face off against each other. Or even Deathstroke?

God I hate the New Grifter.

I'm curious. Why?

Two reasons:

  1. They took a lot of what I really enjoyed about the character, and while I know that its a reboot and I should biatch about it, but I really can't seem to get into the fact that he's kind of just a CIA operative. A good one, but still it seems just too normal nonetheless, I think that they destroyed quite a lot of opportunities with what they could have done with the character, even with all of the limitations that the reboot imply.
  2. I find the writing horrible. I know I'm apparently among a minority, and while I think it might not have to do with what I mentioned above it can be an option. Everything just seems to spontaneous and scripted in the book. Like meeting the other woman, and the adaptations to all of this... It doesn't feel natural. I'm simply not enjoying.

I'm also not a fan of the writing and I really didn't like the first story arc. They really need to ground this character and his stories more in reality to make the book work. I'm excited for the new creative team in a couple of issues.

I feel exactly the opposite. I think they need to take away the basis and the roots of the character from reality, so that the stories in which he partakes make more sense and justifiable with a greater ease. Of course that doesn't have anything to do with the writing, but that's another story (If that's a pun, it wasn't intended) altogether. I think that taking away his Coda training and/or time with Team 7 is where they need to go with this, with the latter being the best route for DC to take, in the humble opinion of the guy that's always right ReVamp.

I say that his upcoming battle with Midnighter and then Helspont (my guess due to the type of ship/cage and Cole's sense of danger) are really going to turn things on an ear for Grifter. Either way, I would love to see more of the Grifter that I love, gun toting, lady's man willing to go out shooting... and winning even when over matched.

I am assuming that this issue is a bridge to the new direction for the series stating with issue 8. Cannot wait. I have been enjoying this series, but Grifter needs to be more like Grifter. A special forces operative and con-man shouldn't always be on the defensive, he should be taking the fight to the Daemonites. Hopefully that is about to change.

Awesome issue it seems but...I'm still not happy with how Midnighter looks in the New 52. But Cash still looks awesome I say.
