God, why are Marvel citizens such hateful people? I love it.

Because the future comics are getting annoying, and it's always the same thing. It's unnecessary, there are a lot of characters who can get comics going more into them yet it's the same thing every time.

@New_World_Order: Eh, I'm glad the future comics are at least using smaller characters. I'm glad to see that Beta Ray Bill is going to join the Avengers, some of the original Guardians of the Galaxy are being used, and other new characters. I wouldn't say its annoying, if its done correctly. It also can lead to some interesting stories.

It's the year 2061 and Scott and Emma still look like they're in their 30's? Jeez Marvel really doesn't wanna age their characters

This. Not only that, but it's pretty much tied into human nature, almost.

But,hey,it's not like there are hate groups in real life, right?

Put simply, discrimination and hate will always exist. And that's kind of a main theme with the X-men.

Looks better than the Fantastic Four special..

Posted by Smart_Dork_Dude

@frozenedge: You DO realize that this is comics right? We're gonna get this in 2061 anyway, Peter Parker still being Spider-Man, etc.

Posted by Winter_Kills

Wouldn't Emma mabe a lot grayer & wrinklier in 2061? Her plastic surgeon must really be good!

It's 2061 in real life not in comic time, it's not the future.

Posted by mje360

Emma looks old on the cover, and young in the preview. Maybe the story will start early, and lead into the them being older for (hopefully) the rest of the book.

You sure it isn't the future in comic time? Cyclops looks pretty old in the last panel

They still hate mutants?

Vote for Summers.

Posted by BlueAlchemist

This is super gimmicky. Like, why do they do this? Probably to get money, but they don't know how the comics will change in 2061. Also, it kind of "spoils" the proverbial flavor of having a real 100th anniversary issue.

Posted by fables87

Saying 100th Anniversary really throws me off that it's an alternative future comic.

This needs to happen, NOW! Somebody quick, MAKE A T-SHIRT so I can buy it with this on it!

Ok so let me ask a question about this comics place in the X-Men future that we see in books like Battle for the Atom, and Wolverine and the X-Men. That question being, does this book fit into that future continuity? Because if it does then shouldn't Dazzler be president? I'm not saying it has too fit, although I do think its a wasted opportunity if it doesn't. Maybe this is set in the same time line and a reference to Dazzlers election will be referenced. Also random thought of the top of my head, how does an internationally wanted terrorist like Scott Summers find himself getting elected to "the highest office in the land"?

Posted by Thor_Ul

@mangakid1995: I don't believe this special have any continuity ties to whatever is happening in the X-books right now.

But it's weird than a mutant could became president if there still be such hate groups so vocals and open in the future. I mean, prejudice could exist but would be more subtle, as is today.

How can there still be open anti-mutant protests? How long has this been going on now? 50 years, give or take? Not even considering the multi-decade time skip between now and 2061

Prejudice doesn't really work that way, it might diminish but it never actually fades, at least not completely

Edited by clayscarface

@thor_ul: have you seen twitter when Obama does something? Or when anything racially-focused comes up? It's really not that subtle these days, it's just being done from people's couches instead of physical demonstrations haha.

Not what I meant, and I agree. Prejudices of all kinds are still going, fairly strong in some areas. However, it's the outward display that usually becomes suppressed. Racism, sexism, bigotry of many kinds - they're still around and always will be with the world being the way that it is, but there's very, very few flaunting it in the streets en mass.

Particularly in our current generation, the public display of bigotry is very often quelled. That's what I've found to be strange, almost 100 years after Mutants took to the public, people are still waddling in the streets with protests. Or I could just be naive

The futures in these 100th anniversary books will basically be just non-canon possible futures. The whole thing sounds like a marketing gimmick. These books are set 100 years after the books first debuted, but it doesn't look like any time has actually passed at all. These books are definitely something that I am going to wait to read when they are free on Marvel Unlimited.

OH.....MY.....GOD, WHAT IS CYCLOPS´S UPPER LIP DOING TO EMMA´S NOSE!?

Posted by BlackArmor

@reactor: Oh, sorry I misunderstood what you were trying to say. I guess that we have to assume that, maybe mutant supervillains periodically cause enough destruction to reignite active hatred or something. That or contrived writing

Posted by Winter_Kills

I can see this story playing out in my head like this- President Summers: "My fellow mutants, I am not a crook!" Emma sauntering up beside him with a cane(she'd be old- it's 2061- what's she gonna do, stay in diamond form forever!) And of course there could be a Jean grey scandal: "I did not have sexual relations with that woman!" Well, actually...sorry guys, could do the presidential humor forever. But I agree with what was said before: how could Scott Summers ever become president, when he was considered a terrorist and a militant by mainstream society in the past?

By the time they get to the ACTUAL 100th anniversary.... nobody is going to remember these.

I feel like an article needs to be written to explain to what seems to be a lot of people about how sliding time scales work

Posted by Saren

I like that cover, if only because it suggests Scott and Emma won't be irreversibly separated after Bendis is done

Scott looks so cool with no glasses. Please some great writer give Scott permanent control over his powers. This story makes me mad to be honest. It's like Marvel going "Here is the story you want that will never give you!" why can't Scott and Emma get married now v.v

Posted by AndySynn

@saren: Yeah, I would be very, very happy if Scott and Emma became a true, permanent item on the X-Men side of the universe. Bendis had better finally get them back together in Uncanny after planting all those seeds early on!

Posted by Novemberx2

Urgh emma frost will still be around 2061? I mean Its bad enough she survived on after grant morrison left the x-men

Posted by Bestostero

Boo! 2061 and he's still with Emma? I thought that died out already, sheesh. When will Psyclops/Cylocke is gonna happen? I've been waiting since the 90's.

I sometimes hate that this loser gets to defile this chick

Posted by warlock360

Looks like Storm lol

Posted by xchaix

@mangakid1995: Any future event portrayed in the X-books are considered alternate universe including Age of Apocalypse, Days of Future Past, Here Comes Tomorrow, Battle of the Atom and this. The point is, the future can always be re-written at any time or any event retconned.

Posted by Aros001

Anybody else think Emma looks like Storm on the cover page?

Posted by sparty-dbq

For Christ's sake Scott, wake up. She's the worst thing that's ever happened to you! You're both going to end up like Sid and Nancy.

Posted by Gudvin

I always new Cyke would be awesome President.

But... uhhh... What's going on exactly?

Agree with you 100%. I feel like there's a lack of creativity in portraying that prejudice. It's like Marvel's sliding time scale not only keeps Cyclops young (he debuted 51 years during the heigh of the Civil Rights Movement ) bur keeps his bigoted opponents trapped in the past.
