I am assuming your second remark is aimed at the comics and I have to disagree, Dynamite already rates all the Warlord of Mars titles as mature so there is no reason to go in and censor them for the kiddies, because they are not meant for the kiddies. Not every comic has to meant for the little ones. They do this kind of thing for R-Rated movies so they can show them on basic cable and it ruins them and if you disagree try watching Casino or Goodfellas and try to enjoy it with all the bleeps, changed words, and cut content.

@cosmo111687: And that is just fine. I suppose comics cannot pander to everyone's taste. For my part I just have no hangups about the dress and can look past it since the source material not only mandated it but truthfully I can look past the sexualization and enjoy the story for what it is. I say its perfectly fine for people to criticize it as long as they understand WHY Dejah is portrayed this way..otherwise I do have a problem outright blatant criticism. Yours is a legitimate beef with the depiction and I can understand that. I may disagree, but I understand it.

@RedheadedAtrocitus: I know why she's depicted like that. But I think they're exploiting the precedent established by the books in order to sell cheap T&A. It's no different than Starfire, who was originally intended to be an alien princess who dresses provocatively because she's from her own unique alien society. (And they're both orange. OMG. Could Trump be one too? Dear God, the image of Trump with nipple shields and a camel toe plate will forever be burned into my brain....) Because of that, comics had two decades of the stupidity of Starfire. Then she was adapted as a smart, wonderful leader in Teen Titans, just like how Dejah was shown as the smart, wonderful leader she's always been in the movie adaptation of John Carter (just, you know, without all the female objectification), proving that the sexualization of both characters was never all that important to either character. Not that charcters shouldn't be sexual. But there's a difference between a character who is sexy and a character who is a sexy object. But now they've returned to classic, sexy object Dejah just like how they returned to classic, sexy object Starfire. And so my response is, why? My response is, this is stupid. My response is, rage.

Dosent matter how good the book is, if my girlfriend caught me reading that id be spending the next three weeks sleeping on the couch lol.

I should start reading this series ;).

This ^^... Its quite sad really the way judgement is passed before someone even knows the situation..

She might as well be naked. This would've went over better back in the early 90s. But it's played out in this new millennium.

@tigerex78: I totally understand that Burroughs original intended for the characters to be naked. And artists have a right to produce whatever work they want. But I still criticize the choice, especially since Dejah Thoris has been successfully adapted without resorting to blatant T&A.

For those upset about the wardrobe here is the quote of her character from this website. Dejah Thoris was described by Burroughs as being beautiful in the extreme, with wavy coal black hair, large lustrous eyes, and light reddish copper-colored skin. Because the Red Martian people are born from eggs rather than giving live birth, she has no belly button (though artists frequently draw her with one). As was typical of Martian custom, Dejah wore no clothing: She was as destitute of clothes as the green Martians who accompanied her; indeed, save for her highly wrought ornaments she was entirely naked, nor could any apparel have enhanced the beauty of her perfect and symmetrical figure.

The author of the original series back in 1917 created her this way and those writing the comic adaptation are staying true to the character. Whether we like it or not this is how she was created. I have to admit the movie got me into looking into this series and I think it's an interesting story.

Dejah Thoris has some of the best comics out there. Tonnes of action, adventure, blood, guts, and eye candy. Wow.

I think that's the first time they have shown the use of Martian telepathy, interesting.
