Exclusive: Darwyn Cooke STAR-SPANGLED WAR STORIES #1 Cover Revealed

Check out the actual cover to the first issue.

Earlier today, the July solicits and covers for DC Comics were revealed. There's a new comic coming that we're really excited about, STAR-SPANGLED WAR STORIES by Justin Gray and Jimmy Palmiotti. It turns out there's been a change from what you saw before.

In the original solicits, the Howard Porter cover was shown and a Darwyn Cooke cover was listed as the variant. It turns out it will now be the other way around. DC has given us the first look at the Cooke cover.

@longbowhunter: While I do dig the Howard Porter cover, I love that this is the main cover.

@ganthet2814: He also hangs around with G.I. Robot.

Sweet! This comic looks awesome! I'll have to put on my pull though with the Grayson getting his own book, Suicide Squad making a comeback (I was gonna put Suicide Squad on my pull list though I found out it was going to be cancelled in like two months so I didn't put on the list), and Teen Titans getting a fresh stuff away from all the Lobdell stuff along with the green Beast Boy. My July DC will be taking all of my money.

Its a cool concept for a book and I will check it out but some how I think the days of war comics on any style have pasted and I do not know if it will last very long.

I want him to be the artist for a book which takes place in Batman's noir era, it'll probably never happen but one can only dream.

Darwyn Cooke, that's all I needed to see in the title before I got my wallet.

I hope this War comic does better than the others DC released, I think War comics can still be entertaining. I haven't read the other 3, but when I get some cash I'm going to buy the trade of all 3 of them. If anybody can write a book like ti=his it's Palmiotti.....of course, he already wrote a war book, and it died after only 8 issues.......Still, I believe in him. Plus again, Darwyn Cooke.

You know, he would be a great artist for Captain Marvel. If he did that, then I may start to warm up to Billy in the New 52. Plus he's had problems with DC and Marvel being too mature, and Captain Marvel is meant to be the most innocent comic out there (of course, not in the New 52). It's a long shot, but I can dream.

The idea that war comics were or are any good... I beg to differ war comics can be one of the best around.

I'm sure it'll last all of 8 issues (if that) but I'll get it cause I always have room for a good military book, if such a thing this might be.

@dcwarfan73: I know right? G.I. Combat was great. And Vertigo's Unknown Soldier was top notch.

@jwalser3: What other reasons would there be? It's my opinion. Whatever, I'll bite.

You said yourself it was cheesy. I don't think cheesy BS fits in with the New 52, the fact that it has a Future's End tie-in is ridiculous, none of their war books have worked but they keep trying, etc.

Reasons enough for you?

It's a gorgeous cover to be sure. Darwyn Cooke's work is always brilliant. That's kind of the problem though. I loath the idea of having a different artist for the cover than for the interior. The idea of a cover is that it gives you some idea of what lies within, and if you have a different cover artist, the cover is more or less an outright lie.

I'm not saying you can't have an opinion or anything. Just that sattitng something with out any reason is silly. No need to get all huffed up about it.
