“No, unfortunately.”
That was Eva Mendes’ answer to SHH’s question about if she'll be involved in what’s presently being called GHOST RIDER: SPIRIT OF VENGEANCE. It corroborates what producer Mike de Luca said, among a lot of other things, to Collider in January. Mendes, of course, played Johnny Blaze’s love interest, Roxanne Simpson, in the first movie. Even with Nick Cage saying that Neveldine/Taylor are going to be taking things in a whole different direction with this new movie, Mendes' not returning for a second movie really shouldn’t be surprising. The romantic leads don’t usually last too long in these kinds of movies. Hell, just look at the BLADE series.
I suppose the question now is what other lady from GR’s history will be stepping in to be his love interest for the next movie, because you’ve always got to have one. I think it’d be pretty wild if they brought in one of the Marvel Witches - - you know, Satana, Topaz or even Jennifer Kale. It’d certainly give this movie a different dynamic if GR had a girl ridding alng on his bike who was just as dark and powerful as he is. That’s a dynamic I don’t think I’ve ever seen in a superhero movie outside of BATMAN RETURNS or DAREDEVIL. == TEASER ==
You know, since the field is pretty wide open for what this movie could be, I’m going to put you Comic Vine maniacs in the director’s chair and ask how you would do a second GHOST RIDER movie. Especially if you didn’t like the first movie, this’ll be your chance to verbalize how you'd do things differently. Me, myself, I’d love to see them to give Zero Cochrane a call and go totally hog wild with a spin on GHOST RIDER 2099. But that’s just me…
