Ennis And Robertson: One Step Closer To Wrapping Up 'The Boys'

Mark your calendars for the release of the next issue this May!

There is no question that 'The Boys;' the successful series published by Dynamite Entertainment written by Garth Ennis and illustrated by Darick Robertson; has achieved it's goal in breaking barriers of the acceptable amount of graphic content that can be published in a comic book. And while books like Millar and Romita Jr.'s 'Kick-Ass' strive to achieve the same or similar goals, they are sub par in my opinion for the mere fact that realism is lacking in the story. 'The Boys,' with all of its gratuitous violence, explicit language and content draws a relationship between reality and realistic circumstances-- which in turn justifies a lot of the issues that appear in the book. For both Robertson and Ennis, there will be a definitive end to the series-- something that both writer and artist have been preparing for. The beginning of the end comes with the release of 'The Boys' #42 with the conclusion of the current story arc, 'The Innocents.' The issue will hit stores this May.

THE BOYS #42
Written by GARTH ENNIS
Art and cover by DARICK ROBERTSON
32 pages $2.99

In issue #42, things get serious as MM takes a terrible risk, setting him on a collision course with Butcher- whose own suspicions about Hughie grow stronger by the minute. Annie ponders whether honesty is really the best policy, Superduper lay's down the law with team leader Malchemical, and someone quite unexpected drops in on Hughie from above... in the penultimate episode of "The Innocents".

This series, while not something I would normally go out of my way to read, is one I actually enjoy. Gratuitous stuff and all--and if you know me, then you know that's kind of a shocker. Fans of 'The Boys' should mark their calendars for the release of issue #42 this May. The issue will contain the conclusion of 'The Innocents.' New readers should be wary of the parental advisory on the comic.
