Dynamite Entertainment Announces Fred Van Lente's THE MOCKING DEAD

The New York Times bestselling writer is aiming to make you laugh AND cringe!

Zombies are pretty much everywhere nowadays (hopefully not right behind you, though) and now the writer of MARVEL ZOMBIES 4 is teaming-up with Dynamite Entertainment to put a comedic twist on the theme. Working with artist Max Dunbar, writer Fred Van Lente says THE MOCKING DEAD will have "laughs and gore in equal measure." Check out Dunbar's interiors and subscription only cover below. There's also a "Zombie Caution" cover by Bill Tortolini.

"In THE MOCKING DEAD #1, a small outbreak can turn into a worldwide apocalypse… but only through a long string of screw-ups. Once actual zombies begin popping up in our world, a lone intelligence analyst realizes real-life events are beginning to mimic the events of a long-lost, Grade-Z, drive-in horror flick. As he races to save humanity with this knowledge, he quickly learns the only thing more dangerous than ravenous walking corpses is the ineptitude of the living!"

The first issue will be available in stores and digitally this September.

I may be too burned out on zombies to pick this up immediately. I'll wait until a few issues in to hear what people are saying.

I think I'll try the first issue, but honestly it doesn't seem like it will be THAT funny to keep going for a whole series.

Eh.

Why?

This will end within six months.

Hey Everyone,

The series is not that long - it's a nice fun filled 4 issue series.

Best!

Dynamite try harder. :p

They need to do more with their Project Superpowers, or I want those characters.

Cezar - good news. The Owl #1 is shipping on July 3rd!

@end_boss: Think you're being a bit generous with six months.

Rip-off of the walking dead, they didn't even try to hide it either.

I've liked what I have been reading lately from Dynamite but parody is the lowest form of entertainment, unoriginal, unfunny, and uninspired. Pass.

Fred said on Twitter it's a 5 issue series?

I think people should be more optimistic instead of saying it's "unfunny" without reading an issue yet.

This looks like a brilliant send-up. The "Zombieland" of comics. I'll definitely pick this up!

Fred's right. the 6 months threw me off. And, I believe 3 issues are already drawn, so that's ultra-cool. I just wish Fred was doing more with us.

hmmmmmmmm..................................

I like Van Lente's writing, especially when he takes a humorous bent, and the art by Dunbar looks solid. I'll definitely give this a try.

Rip-off of the walking dead, they didn't even try to hide it either.

You do know the difference between rip-off and parody, right?
