Dustin Nguyen and Derek Fridolfs on Upcoming Batwing Arc

Batwing is coming to Gotham City and Nguyen & Fridolfs are coming with him.

Dustin Nguyen and Derek Fridolfs are no strangers to the Bat-Universe. Having recently worked on BATMAN: STREETS OF GOTHAM and currently working on JUSTICE LEAGUE BEYOND, DC has announced that the duo is now prepared to take on BATWING in a a two-part story arc in March's issue #7.

Cover by Jay Fabok

Batwing is on the trail of Massacre and that trail leads him Gotham City. Batwing knows when to ask for help and enlists Batman, Nightwing, Robin and Batgirl. Because of Massacre's skills and abilities, it will take all the Bat-members efforts to stop him.

Get ready for some Bat-Family fun beginning in BATWING #7.

So Tim Drake is effectively no longer part of the Bat-family then?

What about Batwoman and Red Robin? lol

Maybe they're just busy at the moment with the Teen Titans and whatever Batwoman is going thru right now.

This sounds really exciting!

EDIT: Just wanted to point out that when I clicked on Batwing it took me to the Marvel character instead of the DCnU one.

So despite being responsible for en entire continent Batwing's headed for a city with one of the highest per capita hero populations in the DCU! :-)

Joking aside, it does sound kinda cool. But I hope Batwing can establish himself without having to rely on guest appearances.

Glad I stayed with it. GREAT SERIES!!!

I was thinking the same thing! When I saw that he was teaming up with Batman in issue 5, I was like this is going to make him look bad and that can't do anything on his own. I mean Massacre is just a man with a Machete it shouldn't be too hard to take down. Batman fights Zasz all the time so he could take Massacre on his own.

I see complaints about Red Robin & Batwoman but nobody cares that Red Hood is missing! :) Jokes aside, I would think that if his enemy had any brains the last place for him to jaunt to would be Gotham City.

I don;t mind a mini event at the 7th issues

this sounds pretty good

@walkingcarpet: I agree, it seems like they are distancing him more and more from the Bat-family, which suck!

I dont see Tim -_-

Exactly man.

Sounds and looks cool!

So he will leave his throne to his sister and parade around in America, completely forgetting he has a kingdom to ru....oh, wait. Wrong guy.

I'm not reading Batwing, but you'd think that with ALL OF AFRICA you would have more then enough room to tell stories without having to cram yet another Batman into Gotham. @GarryDH said:

You're joking but I think you hit the nail on the head there.

I agree, I like Batwing but I thought the whole idea of the character was so they could tell storys outside America and in places they don't usuly get to.

In the Justice League International solicit for April it looks like Batwing is joining the team. (Possibly as a replacement to Batman.) I hope so. It could help draw some attention to the Batwing ongoing.

Guys, guys; this cover and the story information of the solicit have been up for a month. We need to focus on the important part of this announcement, DUSTIN NGUYEN. How am I the first person to mention that in a comment on this post? That's the main point of this article.
DUSTIN NGUYEN.
So these two issues will look fantastic.

I've been missing this guy's art on interiors since Streets of Gotham was canceled. AND HE'LL BE DRAWING GOTHAM AGAIN!

This looks spectacular but where's Tim in all of this?

Tim is busy with the titans and we're not sure of how his relation with Bruce is going, maybe he wants to do like Nightwing did and don't go running to batman

Posted by RedheadedAtrocitus

Would be more complete with Batwoman and Red Robin I say, but still, that looks AWESOME.

Posted by kennybaese
@Or35ti Well, Batwoman has always been kind of separate, but Tim is a pretty big part of the family, so it bugs me. I guess he's not in Gotham in Titans, but still.

I'm still going to like the art, but I'm so used to the current art in the series being so good that something new may be weird. It will take some getting used to I think.

Meh. I'm good.

In a nutshell, we know we screwed up with this book, from artists not making deadlines, to the story just being flat out uninteresting at all but we still want your money and will fight for it by putting the whole damn batman universe in this book and taking the book back to gotham city instead of africa or whatever the hell the setting was supposed to be since there were never any backgrounds in the book to begin with.

thats awesome!!!! Im a huge fan of batwing i thought his comic was going to be garbage but im so glad i stuck with it...its one of my favorite of the new 52!!

Posted by jsphsmth

@imblackjames: I wasn't happy when DC chose Batwing as the Batman Inc character to get his own title, until I read it. Great character. Love Ben Oliver's art.

Glad I was wrong about the comic and gave it a chance.

"Batwing knows when to ask for help and enlists Batman..."

No one enlists Batman - He arrives exactly on time.

Im still not feeling the armour.

If Batwing can come all the way from Africa to participate in things, then Tim can come from wherever he is in America to lend a hand

It's like the Steel of Batman

I'm with everyone else, needs Batwoman and Red Robin...

.....though this series might be great (not reading it), I just can't get past how odd this character feels to me. His design reminds me of a Bat-themed Iron Man and his name is just as bad as Black Bat....

I get that he's part of Batman Inc but he'd work better imo if his name and costume was more unique and fit his culture (maybe). Plenty of Batman Inc characters have names and costumes that aren't bat-themed.

Anyway....as a Batman character I'll bet DC will put more effort into keeping this title alive.

Now this is a better idea.

Hmmmm.....Interesting.

Edited by imaginaryman

@DMC: actually the reason why some of the characters enlisted in batman inc. have non-bat themed characters is because they were already heroes being recruited. Batwing on the other hand was simply david zavimbe(hope I spelled that right) and everything he has was given to him by batman.

And the name I think its personal preference I like it, but I do get your point when you say it could've been better if they added a bit of african influences to it
