'Doctor Strange' and 'Ant-Man' Confirmed for Marvel's Phase Three

Edgar Wright's 'Ant-Man' is finally coming and Doctor Strange will get a solo film!

Marvel Studios' Phase Two is right around the corner and has plenty to be excited for, but today there's some veeeeeeery delightful news about Phase Three!

MTV News had a chance to chat with Marvel's President of Production Kevin Feige and he confirmed that we'll see Edgar Wright's (Scott Pilgrim vs. The World) Ant-Man in 2015.

I've known Edgar since our first lunch together at Comic-Con in 2004," he continued. "He asked me what Marvel was doing with 'Ant-Man' — we weren't even a studio then; what a difference eight years makes! It's very much an 'Ant-Man' origin movie from the perspective of Edgar Wright and his co-writer Joe Cornish. It will of course be firmly planted in the MCU, but a different corner than we've seen before.

When asked about other characters, Feige said, "you probably don't have to look too far to guess at the next list of characters we're toying with and beginning to develop." Shortly after, he said Doctor Strange is "definitely one of them."

He's a great, original character, and he checks the box off this criteria that I have: he's totally different from anything else we have, just like 'Guardians of the Galaxy.' He's totally different from anything we've done before, as is 'Ant-Man,' which keeps us excited.

So yeah, Phase Three sounds incredibly promising. Not only will we have Avengers 2, but we'll also have these two films which could potentially bring a drastically different vibe to the bring screen. How do you feel about a Doctor Strange and Ant-Man solo film finally heading our way, Viners?

Thanks to for bringing this to our attention!

Awesome news! Now let's see if a Black Panther movie could be developed. That would be so brilliant!

Ant-Man will be lame unless it's Hank Pym, in which case he should be Yellowjacket instead. Dr. Strange could definately work if it's dark and goes the demons and other realm monster route but I doubt that'll happen.

Edited by Chaos Prime

Dr Strange should be epic :)

Ant-Man could be a surprisse hit imo with the Non Marvel fans if they do it justice with the S/Effects which they will imo.

Posted by mk111

Maybe they can market Ant-Man as the superhero "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids".

Im really excited, esp about Ant man, assuming its Hank Pym

@ArtisticNeedham: I heard a rumor at one point that it wouldn't be set in the present. Don't remember where I heard it so I wouldn't give it too much credibility.

I think its great to see other characters getting a chance at their own movies.

Don't care. I'd much rather they finally do the Runaways movie instead.

OH NO!! Not Ant-man!! He's so lame! The only good thing about Ant-man is the Wasp.

Ok so now that they announced it....what issues do we need to pick up before the value hikes? lol

And Matt Smith as Scott Lang? Lol.

These movies will only make it if they have stellar actors playing them, but honestly they should have been in other movies. There is no way Ant-Man shouldnt have not been a Shield Scientist in Avengers

Edgar Wright was still at primary school when Marvel first signed him up to do this movie! Fortunately, Ant-Man is such a sh*t character that a director can pretty do whatever he wants with him. Much respect to Edgar Wright though. He is a proper creative talent (unlike Jar Jar Abrams!).

@k4tzm4n: Any reason Lang is pictured in the OP? I'd be disappointed if they made an Ant-Man movie not about Pym. Lang Particles just doesn't have the same ring to it.

SECRET WARS MOVIE!!!!

No thank you. Don't get me wrong, It'ed probably be cool to see the X-Men, Avengers, and Fantastic Four in one place. However, you'd have enough problems making a movie dealing with that many characters without basing it off a comic book series that was basically a glorified ad to sell Mattel toys.

Yes, there's a reason Lang is pictured in the OP. I was in a rush to get this posted ASAP and that was the easiest picture to crop together at the moment. :)

There's no word yet on who will be Ant-Man.

This is great news but I'm still holding on to hope that they will return to Daredevil for a well done reboot. In my humble opinion it wasn't Affleck's fault it turned out the way it did, with a WAY better script and a different direction he would have been fine, there are probably better choices out there for ol' hornhead but whoever the hell plays him...hot damn a Daredevil film done right would be SO bad ass. Just think a Born Again movie could be the first Marvel film to get an Oscar.

Ant-Man has been confirmed for ages, and was even given an exact release date three months ago, so I'm not sure why we are pretending that that's news. I'm happy to see some Doc Strange news though. Between him and Guardians, Marvel Studios is really starting to reach for some diverse areas of Marvel lore.

Posted by JamesKM716

I really want Black Panther, Daredevil reboot, Planet Hulk, and a Luke Cage done right

Posted by Onemoreposter

@k4tzm4n: lol, excellent. Can't tell you how glad I am that you have Lang pictured for only unofficial reasons :)

(this isn't to say I don't like Scott, I do. I just feel we shouldn't skip over Hank or downplay him)

Dr Strange and Ant-Man are two of my favs, I just hope they get the character of Hank Pym right.

Posted by jojo111

@queenfrost_: they most likely wont do scarlet witch and quicksilver since the rights to the xmen and anything mutant are with Fox, yes, Marvel studios owns her as well because shes an avenger, but without some sort of agreement, they couldn't mention Magneto or much else of their background story. As for Ms. Marvel, im sure she's coming, if she is, I would want Ali Larter to play her, even though she seems like she should play Emma Frost in my opinion

Posted by chalkshark

The main thing I want from a Dr. Strange movie is a Dr. Strange series. Hell, bring back Strange Adventures, and run an Ant-Man strip, too. These characters are cornerstones of Marvel's Universe. It's criminal that they've been sidelined into supporting roles in overcrowded team books.

Posted by RedheadedAtrocitus

Definitely looking forward to Strange. Hopefully Ant-Man is done well and doesn't become a punchline, but that's just my opinion.

Posted by FearTheLiving

Super happy to hear this, we already knew Ant-Man was coming but Marvel taking a shot with Strange is another good step in seeing more diverse heroes in the movies.

Finally Dr. Strange movie. I been waiting my who life for this moment. He is the best. With movie technology now his movie will be epic, just don't put Johnny F***king Deep to play him he is to old and would want to much money. There goes the film budget. Give some new Actor a chance. They have to make sure they don't waste half the movie on origin story then it would suck. AND FOR ONCE IN THEIR DAMN LIVES, MAKE IT ABOUT THE MAGIC, ACTION, AND VILLAIN NOT A STUPID LOVE STORY. If people want to see a damn love story go rent the F***king Notebook or something. Nothing kills a movie more faster than 45 minutes of the character worrying about some ugly flat no curves having actress they plan on putting in the movie (cause she gave some one a bj). Just like that ugly Catwoman from Dark knight rises. YEAH I SAID IT!!!

Pretty excited about both but is Ant-Man still going to be animated? going to be interesting if they decide to add him into Avengers (film universe) after having him star in his own animated movie? anyone know.

Edited by dimmoe

still no Black Panther movie -_-

Posted by Namor1987

Dr. Strange would be bad-ass in a solo movie. Ant-Man is cool too but I'm waiting for Ultron & Vision.

Posted by queenfrost_

@Illuminatus: Dr. Strange would never work in multi-media. His animated film was a mess

Posted by Illuminatus
@queenfrost_: So an animated film that was only 76 minutes long is your proof that the character and his origin story cannot be successfully adapted into a feature film?

I know this might seem like a frighteningly outlandish idea, but Marvel Studios and Disney will probably bring in people who weren't involved with the animated film in some capacity. I know, I know. Such an idea is completely radical.
Posted by mk111

I liked the animated film. I didn't think it was so bad.

@Illuminatus: so you're saying dr strange...a lanky middle-aged man with a weird beard and a circus outfit who can perform magic would make a far better movie than the damn king of wakanda? don't think so

The overwhelming amount of fallacious thinking, coupled with the disingenuous assertion, made me literally laugh out loud at this statement.

so you're saying dr strange...a lanky middle-aged man with a weird beard and a circus outfit who can perform magic

Completely subjective opinions. The last time I checked, Strange has had a myriad of different costumes and armor over the years (given that the characters is several decades old), so I would say that it is unfair to lump all of them together into on blanket statement.

Captain America: The First Avenger was about a skinny guy from Brooklyn who got loaded up with drugs, put on a costume that resembled the American flag, ran around with a shield, and beat up Nazi's who masqueraded as HYRDA agents. It was a critical and financial success.

You see, you can look at things from a cynical and even simplistic view, but that doesn't change the fact that these stories often work.

would make a far better movie than the damn king of wakanda? dont think so

I have literally never said a word about Black Panther (until now) in this entire thread. You're attempting to put words in my mouth in attempt to justify your bias for a particular character, and attempting to justify your aversion for another particular character by making it seem like I'm being unreasonable.

The Marvel Movie Universe will never be whole until Spider-Man, X-Men, Fantastic Four and Ghost Rider return home to where they belong!

Anttttman.... I like him for some reason...

Posted by TheCannon

I personally feel Ant-Man would make a boring film. I could be wrong, just my thoughts.

I'm happy about Dr. Strange though. Now if we can get Black Panther and Luke Cage movies done right, I won't have a complaint with Marvel at all.

Posted by markslurpee

Dr. Strange is one of my favorite characters in the Marvel Universe, I absolutely cannot wait for his film.
