Do You Want to See an Absolute Edition of JONAH HEX?

Absolute editions are not a guaranteed thing. This is your chance to try to help to make it happen.

No Caption Provided

There aren't too many western comics these days. Jonah Hex is a character that was created in 1972. There have been many creators that have told stories on the character but two that have made a huge impact are Justin Gray and Jimmy Palmiotti.

In a market that seems to prefer superhero comics over others, these two have an impressive track record with Jonah. They consistently wrote all 70 issues of the 2006 volume. The only reason this series ended was to make way for ALL-STAR WESTERN in the New 52.

What many fans would love is an Absolute Edition of JONAH HEX.

In case you're not aware of what an Absolute Edition is, it's DC oversized, slipcase printings of key story arcs and books. The pages are usually restored, recolored and corrected (if necessary). The dimension is usually 8 inches by 12 inches, which brings it closer to the original artwork. There are often extra supplemental materials that may include scripts, unseen artwork or other notes from the creative team.

Despite the successful run on JONAH HEX, the series has never seen a hardcover release. The series has been reprinted in several paperback versions over the years.

Jimmy has recently started a Facebook fan page - JONAH HEX needs an ABSOLUTE EDITION.

What is this page about?

I have been asked many times online and at cons if there will ever be any hardcover collections of Jonah Hex coming from DC Comics, or an Absolute Edition, so I figured a fun way to find out if there really is any interest in such a thing was to form a Facebook page and test the waters. Comic fans are a very vocal group and I have found the great thing about working for a company like DC is that they go out there and listen to the fans...online, in stores and at conventions. At the very least, its another place where fans of the books can meet up and discuss past and present issues of both Jonah Hex and All Star Western.

All you have to do is visit the page and "join" it. Like Jimmy said, it's a way to test the waters. So if you have a Facebook page, even if you don't use it often, head on over and like the page if you think an Absolute Edition of JONAH HEX would be cool.

I think if they were to do 'Absolute Editions' of things, it should be comics with truly brilliant artwork, as that's the only advantage I can think of for releasing bigger versions. I haven't read any Jonah Hex(well, one issue actually), but if the artwork's really good, sounds like a good idea.

And on the subject of there being not many western comics out, there's a new western series called 'Pretty Deadly' starting sometime this year. Thought I should mention it in case anyone hasn't heard. :)

Yup, I would buy this absolute book. I will join jimmy's fb. Since im commenting, I would like to voice up about 2 more things. 1 dc needs to put out another war comic. There is just to much good material that can be brought out from this. 2 warner brothers needs to start including 'showcase' back into there dc animations. They gave us one for every new cartoon, but the stopped doing it after superman/ shazam. I was dissapointed the I did not find one inthe dark knight returns pt 2.

It definitely deserves one more than GL: Rebirth, Sinestro Corps Wars, Identity Crisis, Superman: For Tomorrow, Dark Victory, and Hush. DC has made some reaaaaaaaaally questionable decisions with their Absolutes, especially lately.

I'd say about half of those books completely deserved an Absolute Edition. To me, they're a great way to showcase the artwork in a book and For Tomorrow, Dark Victory, and Hush are all gorgeous. Plus, they're all longer 12 issue runs. Rebirth and Identity Crisis are a little more iffy, but I don't mind Sinestro Corps War having an absolute edition either because it was, I think, the arc that really sold everyone on Johns' Green Lantern, and it's 12 or so issues long, and Reis' artwork on that book is great.

I'm sad to say I've never read any Jonah Hex or All Star Western, but I've been on a Western kick lately, so I think I'm going to seek some of those books out. I'll pick up the first All Star trade if nothing else.

Well that's an automatic buy from me.

Now only if DC will make a full length animated movie about Hex.

I've read lots of Jimmy and Justin's Jonah Hex as well as All Star Western. That being said I really only throwdown money for an Absolute when I find a good deal. I bought Kingdom Come Absolute for $15 years back and Batman: Hush Absolute for $25 couple of Decembers ago.

Yeah dude, I think its established a pretty solid cult following. Wish people would talk more about it though.

It's also one of DC's few $4 books where having a backup story feels natural to me, and not just some mediocre tacked-on nonsense.

It's not questionable when those books sold, a lot.

Man, I would love to see a Jonah Hex Absolute Edition. Unfortunately, I can't 'join" the page since I don't do Facebook.
