Disney Announces Joss Whedon Will Return to Write and Direct 'The Avengers 2'

WOOO!

Disney has announced Joss Whedon will return, not only to work on a sequel to The Avengers. He will, in fact be WRITING AND DIRECTING it!

The Hollywood Reporter also mentions that Whedon will create a "Marvel-related TV series" for ABC. This will mean Whedon will be one busy guy. Hopefully if both are in production simultaneously, we could see some actual serious crossover between the two.

Okay, now it's your turn to voice your opinions. What do you think the focus of the sequel and TV show should be. I'm going to assume everyone is thrilled with his involvement.

My faith in the TV show goes up tenfold with Joss Whedon at the helm, you know its going to have an ensemble cast and be faithful to the comics, hmmmmmm bring in his awesome cast repertoire? i need to get thinking of who alyson hannigan and eliza dushku could play :P

Avengers 2 with Thanos and the Gauntlet (and why not some other cosmic stuff?) and a Frontline-like TV series.

i'm glad he's coming back for avengers 2

Posted by KRYPTON

It was obvious he'd return, only an idiot would never return to a movie that made over a billion dollars the first week. Glad he made the right choice

Posted by Inverno

Tell me something I don't know. It would be a stupid move to not call him back.

YAY Avengers 2 would have not been the same without him!

Posted by briansanderson

so very happy. really surprised. and we not only got a movie but a tv show out of him too. makes my year so far.

Posted by chris_2894

think the tv show should be about the new avengers characters like luke cage, iron fist and daredevil

Posted by mikeclark1982

i am sorry, but i was seriously underwhelmed with the avengers. it was hype, explosions, humor, iron man, explosions, thanos, end. otherwise it was just... meh. whedon may be a marvel head, and that is good, but the film did not blow, but i would have rather bought it on dvd than see it at midnight. disney is doing what they said they would do: milk the franchise for all its worth, and it disappoints me. i hope the next film is better. and i hope Marvel listens to fans instead of sitting there and bowing to whatever Disney demands.

Yay for the sequel but "meh" for the TV show, is it needed?

Very smart of Disney & Marvel.

Cool!

Who'll be the next villians in Avengers 2? Kang?, Ultron?, Modok and A.I.M?, or Wonderman and Vision, just before they're reformed 2 superheroes?

Edited by Decept-O

Sincerely doubt there will be anything in terms of anything offered on TV; sounds like just one of those "potential" things that Hollywood likes to throw out to the media.

Griping aside, I am very pleased to read this news because for at least 2 Avengers movies there will be some attempt at continuity. Whedon knocked it out of the park with The Avengers. Let's hope the home run streak continues!

First and foremost, this is the best news we're going to get all year.

Secondly, it would be cool if the TV show was about a secondary group of heroes working for SHIELD - ya know, Falcon, Vision, Mockingbird, etc. Naturally, we'd be treated to cameos every now and then, hopefully SHIELD regulars such as Sam Jackson, ScarJo and Renner will be willing to appear every now and then.

Gonna. Be. So. Rad.

Another Joss Whedon TV show and it's set in the Marvel universe? It's like God looked into my brain and created what I wanted most in this world.

... and Disney executives, far and wide, breathed a sigh of relief.

Great news! Shame that MCU won't be getting Silver Surfer and Galactus though.

Now you see THIS is why I like the Marvel movie people.

Shiny.

I am a little concerned though. Buffy was 7 seasons, Angel was 5, Dollhouse was 2 and Firefly was two-thirds of a season. I'm thinking this will get cancelled before it even airs. Though I do have high hopes for it. Some Marvel Knights and other street levelers hopefully with the occasional big league cameo. Maybe we can get Nathan Fillion as Hank Pym after all.
