Detective Comics #853 The Final Nail In Batman's Coffin?

Whatever Happened To The Caped Crusader, Part 2 of 2 reviewed.

Is the is the end for Bruce Wayne/Batman?  I think we all know the answer to that.  I do have to say that if it is, this is a fitting end.  Gaiman and Kubert gave us a wonderful trip in these two issues.  And the last page was pretty freaky.

whatever happened to the big funeral issues where all the superheroes gather in a huge church for the service or the justice league are the paul bearers and they carry the casket down main street to the giant statue memorial?  i miss that kind of stuff

Sooooo, where does Bruce go from here?

To be honest, I thought it was weird.  I love the art.  Especially how Kubert drew the different stories in the style of the time periods that the stories were set in.

"Fast" Eddie Nigma, loved that.

If I'd have to guess, he's in a comatose situatiion, either burried under the eath alive, OR Hush did to him what he did to catwoman.

but thats one of seldom comics you give a 5, so I'll be reading it!

story was awesome, ending was a bit ambiguous to me at least but  i reallly really enjoyed it =]

I don't often give comics five stars.  I am a really big Gaiman fan and I love Kubert's art.  It's almost like he has two styles of drawing.  I loved all the little subtle details he added.  With my rating, I'm not saying it's the all time greatest comic.  I enjoyed the writing and art.  The story was trippy and touching, in a way.  It was simply a fun ride even if it only lasted two issues.  I will definitely be reading it again in the future.

I never would have guessed that the death of Batman would go down quite like this, but now that it has I really can't see it being any other way. Beautiful and brilliant little story.

I'm sure you enjoy alot of comics g-man, but you are saying something by giving this the 5 stars.  I haven't read but I will.

That was really the only comic I wanted to pick up this week (of course I got other stuff too) & It's a good book. I fitting send off for the Caped Crusader.

Favorite Line: Good night, Giant Penny.

I also loved was the Mad Hatter's button said.

I find it INCREDIBLY irritating that they divided this two parter across two different titles! Why not just have yet another tangent mini series with the isolated two issues? It makes no sense! At my shop, it was this week's largest pre-order.

The reprocussions on the public of that happening would not be very good, Gotham is already in chaos, having a big announcement about the death of their protector wouldn't help.  With Batman I dont know if I'ld like that kind of funeral anyways, doesnt seem to fit.

But what Gaiman has written was probably the best kind of funeral I could ever imagine for Bruce. It just felt right

Now having read the issue, i agree with your rating. Even though batman is more earthly then anyone in the DC universe, this issue had a "cosmic" flare in some points and i must say that it was an intelligent issue too, since the beginning and the end sort of confront eachother

Batman wasn't killed infront of everyone, so they are trying to keep it from being news
