Details Revealed on 'XX' Teaser Featuring an All-Female X-Men Squad

Find out who is on the roster!

Last week we saw a Marvel NOW! teaser for 'XX' by Brian Wood and Olivier Coipel. The first assumption most of us made was it was another X-Men book. But why the double x's? The second guess was something to do with the female chromosome. So why not an all-female X-Men book? There are certainly plenty of great female X-Men.

Today, Marvel has released details via USA Today.

From the image we see Jubilee, Kitty Pryde, Rachel Grey, Rogue, Storm and Psylocke. Brian Wood mentions the drama begins with Jubilee bringing an orphaned baby home. What amps up the tension here is the baby might be the "key to mankind's survival." There will also be the appearance and return of a Grant Morrison-created villain, Sublime. But his showing up doesn't mean what you might expect.

Wood mentions delving into the characters to show their flaws, something not often seen in superhero books. There will also be "a lot of relationships, love and sex" in the book "in the classic X-Men way - the way it used to be."

You can read more on what Wood has to say over at USA Today. The series will simply be called X-MEN.

Love the roster, a majority of the team are Logans "daughters" it's too bad Laura (X-23) isn't on the team

Posted by judasnixon

I'll take Dazzler over X-23, but they are both spoken for, so it doesn't really matter.

Posted by kagato

Is that an alternate universe version of Storm or is it the 616 version with a make over? Also, is Jubilee still a Vampire and where the heck is X23?

hmmm...not what I expected, but very interesting

Ah fair enough, i take it she will be sporting that look in the other books too then, not really a fan of Storm anyway so it dosent really bother me, just thought it would be more interesting if she came from elsewhere and that was the reason she was on X Force lol.

Coipel's art is just amazing.

Posted by stormphoenix

YES! I will be getting this :)

I was sold at Rachel Grey and Oliver Coipel.

i I love all these characters, and I collect all xmen trades. However, this seems odd to have an all women team. Just like it would be odd to have an all men team. X-men has always been one of the comic teams that was as close to 50/50 gender split as they come. I'lll be curious to see how they write the necessity of an all women team. As of now, it feels like a pc public relations grab. The drawing is very interesting to me.

Posted by sweetesttoaster

I will buy almost anything Coipel is drawing and the fact that Brian Wood only makes it better.

This sounds really cool. If I end up having the extra money I'll pick it up. I really like Wood's writing. The Massive is extremely good.

No X-23 ........ ;-; *Slowly walks away* ....will check it out for Kitty and Jubilee tho

In Avengers Arena, killing her friends.

But yeah, I told you all X-23 wouldn't be here.

I'm psyched, though I wished they had some characters who weren't in all the other books. I was expecting Pixie in this book.

:)...

Who is the inker and the colorist by the way? ...Also important.

Psylocke and Sublime in the book? Definitely sold. The premise also seems interesting too.

YESSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FINALLY AN ALL-FEMALE X-BOOK WITH LOTS OF MY FAVE CHARACTERS!!! Here's hoping X-23 makes an appearance every now and then!! SO PUMPED!

Coipel Coipel Coipel lol

Hopefully it's done in a way that the wife can take an interest - I know that for my part, I'm intrigued to the point of approaching her about reading it to see what she thinks. Interesting move from Marvel.

Sounds awesome!

Is Juby still a vampire though?

Did she get her powers back at the end of AvX

Posted by AgeofHurricane

Pixie will be appearing in the first issue, guyz.

Brian Wood is cool and I like Copiel's art, So i'm on board for this. Not to mention it has some of my favorite Female X-men. Rogue, Psylocke, Rachael, and even Jubilee who I used to not like but recently have grown to like. I could do without Storm and Kitty though. I know people like them and Storm will help sell the book so W/e.

I agree with everyone else who said it that X-23 needs to join this team. I hope she makes it out of Avengers Arena so she can. Honestly this was a better place for her than Avengers Arena. Especially since she recently has wanted to not be a tool for killing. I do like Avengers Arena though, so I'm not complaining or anything.

Is Mohwak Storm coming back then? Ugh...

Edited by Lightburst

god this book begs for my money and Kitty needs a new costume i like the old school yellow and black But with this team they could have given her a new one

with me being an X-23 fan I don't think adding Laura for the first Arc would be good with this team maybe a little later near the end of Arena Because lets be honest we all know shes making it out of that book alive.

YESSS JUBILEE IS FINALLY IN ANOTHER X BOOK

Posted by haydenclaireheroes

This is going to be awesome. I am glad that Marvel is giving more female characters the spotlight with Marvel Now. Especially happy that Kitty Pryde is now the main character in about four titles. This is a great year for Shadowcat. Also really like the rooster for the team. They are all great characters. I have to pick up this series!

Posted by haydenclaireheroes

But I am surprised that X-23 is not on the team

Posted by thiagosantos

Thank you, God!

Posted by Spideycap

Great team line-up. Weird title for a book based on all females, but I guess they like the irony.

I'm loving forward to this! Hopefully Storm's mohawk is just for the cover, I don't really dig that look...

I think that's her look from now on or until it they think she needs to be redesigned again

You're right.....and I do NOT want her to go back. She looks damn good

I see they're giving Storm a mohawk again. Because that made so much sense the first time...

I actually think the mohawk looks pretty cool

It makes sense. Originally the mohawk represented a shift in her personality....And if you know anything about women, more often then not their hairstyles can be a outward representation of inner emotional turmoil.

No X-23? Cash cow right their

I don't know why pepole are making a big deal about this X-Men was more or less a all female book anyway

Isn't this just X-force without Puck?

Posted by ectoborge

Its all women why not call it X-women?

Posted by frochez

I think my favourite part is that their all wearing clothes which actually cover their bodies, rather than dressing like cheap lap-dancers. A black swimming costume with a sash, or a boob tube, is not appropriate day-wear, let alone being suitable for super-heroics, people.

Posted by wmwadeii

tempting

Posted by AgeofHurricane

@TheCrowbar: No.

Two different teams, two different mandates, not to mention, two different creative headliners.

Although i catch your drift.

No. She's not.

As for this new book -- amazing. Great outfits, fantastic cover and Storm front and centre? Maybe, just maybe this will be the book I have been asking for. (Rogue, Rogue, Rogue. I can't even....)

Enough with with X-Women title. These women are X-Men. Always were. They should be and are identified as such.

Only worry is this:

Wood mentions delving into the characters to show their flaws, something not often seen in superhero books. There will also be "a lot of relationships, love and sex" in the book "in the classic X-Men way - the way it used to be."

I don't know about the love and sex aspect being "the classic X-Men way." But delving into the characters? Lovely.

Posted by save.me.now

As for all the X-23 talk I'm starting to think marvel just hates her, so I doubt she'll show up on any permanent basis in this book.

I like all the characters on the cover and I really want to like this book, but the USA today description seems kind of lame.

Tell that to Hazmat.

Brian Wood = Awesome

Olivier Coipel = Great

An all female X-Team without X-23 = bummer.

Still, this does look interesting, especially if it is 2.99
