Despite Rumors, Wolverine 2 Is Still On Track

The plan is to start shooting in the spring, in fact.

Logan's getting anxious, waiting to start...
Logan's getting anxious, waiting to start...

How about a little rumor control? Moviehole posted a scoop recently the (now long-in-development) Wolverine sequel had been delayed even further due to indeterminate difficulties in securing a shoot in Japan. That would seem to be the latest of many problems the pan Pacific location's brought onto this production. Not only was shooting pushed back initially due to lasting effects from the devastating earthquake the country suffered, it was also delayed even further due to director Darren Aronofsky finding the long overseas commitment to be too great to fit in with his family life.

== TEASER ==

Well, it would seem that way, anyway. Joblo’s has recently set the record straight, clarifying that the flick’s pre-production is still on track with the current director, James Mangold, aiming to start shooting in the spring (presumably right after Hugh Jackman finishes with Les Miserables.) And that does sound more likely.

Despite anything else, the first Wolverine flick still brought in close to $400 mil when all was said and done . This sequel is going to happen, for sure, regardless of any delays. The fact that is has been going through these false starts (which will likely seem insiginicant in hindsight) goes to show how tough it is to even get a sure bet like this off the ground.

Wolverine 2: Wolverine Harder

But seriously, after the suckfest that was Origins, I'll never take another Logan movie seriously again.

Fool me once with X3, shame on you. Fool me twice with Origins, shame on me.

Good to hear that it sounds like the shooting schedule is more concrete, the beginning of shooting will have been delayed for over a year before they finally start.

Question: Why is Marvel even making a squeal to this? I thought it was a flop. Also, I noticed they want to do a #2 with Ghost Rider too. Marvel, make movies like X-Men: First Class and Iron Man, if you want me to watch them.

As much as I want to see the rights of the X-Men go back to Marvel, if they are doing a sequel to the horrible Origins film they should at least try and get it right by casting Kelly Hu back to play Yuriko in a film that's based out on Japan.

It'll take a lot more than an adamantine bullet to the head to stop a Hollywood studio's lust for cash in sequels.

Everyone, let's make an appeal to Barack Obama. Have him strike a deal that if he goes on Fox News and says anything they want him to say, News Corp will surrender all franchise rights to Marvel Studios. He is a comic fan afterall. He can't be happy about how this series turned out.

Heh.

Why does everyone think Marvel studios would make a better X-Men movie...most of the films they have overseen have been mediocre at best....in fact a lot of people have stated that First Class was the superior comic film this year, which was made by ........*dramatic pause*......not Marvel studios

I agree not every X-men movie was great, but at least it was something different, I hate when the films follow the comic to the letter...if they all did that, you wouldn't have movies like "The Dark Knight" for example

Who said they wanted a literal comic adaptation? Not me. I have a degree in film and have worked as a screenwriter and director. Film is a different medium entirely from comics.

I actually agree that Marvel Studios has released merely good-at-best films so far, with the exception of the fantastic first installment of Iron Man. However, even their mediocre turns so far have been watchable and largely entertaining, unlike X-Men: The Last Stand, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Fantastic Four, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, Daredevil, Elektra, Spider-Man 3, Ghost Rider, Punisher: War Zone, and Man-Thing. Marvel properties in Marvel's hands has yet to turn out anything terrible for the silver screen. Given the track record of the superhero genre, that's a decent score card.

At the end of the day, Fox and Sony will only care about quality in as much as they can milk it for money. Sure, Marvel and Disney are looking for profit, but it's their properties. It's their game to lose.

Additionally, I'd very much like to see potential crossovers. A shared cinematic universe is preferable to the fragmented ones that still taunt fans.

Ah, I didn't mean to put words in anyones mouth, I was just venting.....Seems to be a common complaint about "the rights reverting back to Marvel" like its going to instantly equal a great movie, ya know??  Its just kind of asinine to think that. The X-Men have many factors that make it difficult to portray thema good film, including edgy plot points and a large roster, What Singer did with the first two X films was magic IMO...

Marvel has always had financial trouble, so its not surprising to see them sell out there characters constantly, I just wish they would not do it as much...I believe the reason their movies are bland most of the time is due to rushed production from hasty film companies

I felt like the Marve cinematic universe was just a silly way to say "hey!! just wait for the Avengers" Honestly I feel there is a lot of unnecessary parts to these films and also I feel that it cheapens the explanation of certain aspects, For instance in the beginning of Captain America Red Skull explains that the cosmic cube is from Asgard or something of that sort, If you have never seen Thor, or if you are not familiar with Nordic lore...you have no idea what they are talking about

What they need to do is not edit the crap outta this like they did Origins 1...that was where the problem was. Some people say that things are constantly in need of improvement, well, there is such a thing as TOO MUCH improvement, which from what I gathered is exactly what befell the first flick. Hopefully its a mistake that will be remedied this time around.

Silver Samurai & Cyber for antagonists along with the Hand as minions (nobody remembers Elektra so they can reboot them). Plant the seeds for Daken with the relationship & have Sabretooth with his hair more grown out & more feral.

Hey, as long as there is no magic adamantium memory bullets, shoe-horned Emma Frosts, or Baraka-pools I'm down. Take some liberties, but none that are illogical.

It would be cool in an end-of-credits scene to see Mystique give Liev Schrieber's Sabretooth the mutant serum Beast gave her in First Class. Thus, explaining the more feral appearance of Tyler Mane's Sabretooth in X1.

I'm glad that I'm not the only one who wants a single continuity with some minor problems, instead of rebooting the whole series with first class.

It would definitively be cool if they decided to include Daken later on in the future, with this movie just opening the door for such plot.

I do like the Marvel films but what I dislike the most about them is that they all have the exact same template  for example:

  • Hero: Captain America
Will they, wont they love interest: Peggy Carter
Obstacle to over come: Living up to be Americas first super solider
Bad Guy: Red Skull

  • Hero: Thor
Will they, wont they love interest: Jane Foster
Obstacle to over come: Maturing enough to be king of Asguard
Bad Guy: Loki

  • Hero: Iron Man
Will they, wont they love interest: Pepper Potts
Obstacle to over come: Living up to his fathers greatness/controlling his company
Bad Guy: Iron Monger/Whiplash

There's no reason they couldn't do a good Wolverine movie. Especially considering that the last film ended with Logan getting shot in the brain with an amnesia bullet. He won't remember the last movie, so why should we? It'd basically be a reboot.

uhh... I know I'm a dick, but you totally didn't read this article and the part where Wolverine 1 made $400 Million? Just because some angry nerds got sand in their vaginas and perpetually whine about the movie, doesn't mean its a flop. You realize that 'flop' refers to 'how much freaking money they raked in' and not 'how critically acclaimed the movie is'?

And GR2... sheesh man, that's OLD news. 'Want to do'? Dude, they are almost DONE with it, if not already. Oddly enough, there's a small possibility that GR2 may actually end up being better than GR1, but we will only know once the movie is out.

I want FOX to be done w/ X-films. While First Class is decent, the Singer-style Xmen is getting OLD and its a franchise that needs a FRESH reboot. They messed up the continuity to the point where people make up excuses like First Class is a reboot rather than a prequel. Its pretty clear that the Singer-produced First Class purposefully ignored the films he had no part of, which is X3 and Wolverine. Its clear that Fox made a bunch of movies with no outline or master plan about how the sequels and spin-offs will tie together. And its clear we are never going to get any resolution to the loosed ends from X3.

The lesson EVERYONE should have learned from Batman is that you don't need to perpetually make sequel after sequel 'in the same universe'. When Schumacher attempted to continue Burton's Batman series, he turned it to garbage. Then came Nolan with an all new trilogy and its become a benchmark to grade other superhero movies by. Once Nolan drops this 3rd Batman... that's it. After that, I don't want to see another Nolan Bat-film. I don't want to see Christian Bale as Batman again. And I don't want to see some other director make a silly attempt to 'continue' that trilogy with different actors. These are character with decades of stories... telling a whole new tale of Batman does not have to involve trying to place it 'in the same universe' as Nolan's Batman and nor does it need to involve re-telling origins. In the comic book world, we have Loeb's The Long Halloween next to Miller's Dark Knight Returns next to Grant Morrisson's R.I.P. Movies can be the same way.

So... point of all that is... someone needs to get those Xmen rights away from Fox and Singer so we can have a different take, a different interpretation and something fresh. While First Class was good, I wonder how much better it would have been had Matt Vaughn been able to develop it away from Singer and Fox and really start fresh.

Marvel has always had financial trouble, so its not surprising to see them sell out there characters constantly, I just wish they would not do it as much...I believe the reason their movies are bland most of the time is due to rushed production from hasty film companies I felt like the Marve cinematic universe was just a silly way to say "hey!! just wait for the Avengers" Honestly I feel there is a lot of unnecessary parts to these films and also I feel that it cheapens the explanation of certain aspects, For instance in the beginning of Captain America Red Skull explains that the cosmic cube is from Asgard or something of that sort, If you have never seen Thor, or if you are not familiar with Nordic lore...you have no idea what they are talking about

See, I have no problem with this argument, a different take on the characters is fine...Its just everyone always mentions Marvel studios helming the project like its garunteed to be great or something....Singer did a terrific job with the X-men and I do kind of feel that Vaughn is going down a similar route.

My argument is that I actually like the world Singer has set up...more realistic and probable, although they have screwed most of the continuity...I'm still interested in how a First Class trilogy would pan out...

They say that the Orgins movie was wrong, it was basically right, unlike the first class movie which was totally wrong it did not even have the right characters, well with the exception of Charles, Eric and Beast, but there was no Marvel Girl no Cyclops and no Storm. They even went as far as to say that Beast created Cerebro when he clearly did not besides I thought McCoy was medical doctor not an inventor. The best part of that movie was the wolverine cameo. You know if bag on one movie you might as well bag on the other movie.
