'Deadpool' Movie Update

Deadpool's director speaks a bit about the film's status.

The status of the Deadpool movie has been all over the place for quite some time now and the slow progression hasn't exactly been an optimistic sign for fans of the Merc with a Mouth. However, a script was leaked some time ago and it was quite well received. Now there's another reason to hold onto hope because director Tim Miller took to Kickstarter and answered one question about Wade Wilson's cinematic status.

"DEADPOOL: We've turned in an amazing script and done some early tests and visual development that--I'm confident--would get the fans stoked. And Ryan still loves the project. So it's really up to Fox as to whether or not the film happens--all I can do is hope (and beg periodically) that it be allowed to move ahead."

Those are certainly words of inspiration and it's nice to know Ryan Reynolds is still definitely on-board. With Mark Millar joining Fox's Marvel movieverse, it could be possible he'll help this project pick up speed and potentially open the doors to more X-Men related characters.

Us Deadpool fans will just have to wait around to see how things turn out. Hopefully we'll one day get a glimpse of that test footage and hear more updates in the near future. In the meantime, what would you really want to see in a Deadpool movie?

Deadpool is an awesome, funny character but not a movie. I think the game will be awesome (or atleast hope it will) but Fox's Reputation with marvel characters SUCKS!!!!! Like others who wrote I think Fox should give it up to Disney and let them continue their amazing job.

I might be more forgiving on Fox than you are, but when it comes to Deadpool, I think you're 100% right. When Fox doesn't get the character right, anything that would keep people's interest is gone.

In all honesty I really could care less about whether this is greenlighted or not, because I really didn't enjoy Reynolds' depiction of Deadpool. That said, the only thing I would like to see if this is made is plenty of airtime with Wade NOT wearing a mask while scarfing down burgers and fries. That would be AWESOME.

RR is the best possible choice for deadpool, haters!

1- He played schizofrazic characters more than once (like in the movie NINE).

2- although bad history he already played in 3 superhero movies. 2 of them marvel(Wolverine, Trinity)

3- He perfectly pulls off the merc of the mouth style in puns, sacasim,...etc

4- Hell, I already gotten used to him as Wade Wilson because of Origins, and he looked great with the swords.

I called it.  It's about time someone actually reveled the truth and not prance around it.

I'm tired of getting nothing more than "Oh we're still working on it" or "It's a work in progress" comments. I want some results. The last result we heard about was that they found a director and that was almost a year ago. Okay so shouldn't that mean they should be finding some other actors by now?

I mean seriously, think about this......X-Men First Class was announced the same day as the Deadpool movie, why is that movie already out on DVD and this isn't? Wolverine 2 was announced the same day as the Deadpool movie, why is that already filming and this isn't? Why are these movies being worked on while Deadpool sits in the back waiting his turn. Now they want to make X-men First Class 2, is that movie going to push Deadpool back even more? Why can't FOX work on both Wolverine and Deadpool at the same time?

Seriously FOX, get it done or drop it like the Magneto movie so you can spare us all the "it's a work in progress" bull-hockey that's been going on for about 2 years now. I've been patient this far, but now my patience is getting thin. I mean even a movie like The Dark Knight Rises, was announced early in 2010 and that movie is came out this year. IT SHOULDN'T HAVE TO TAKE THIS LONG!!!!!!

I'm not satisfied only watching half of the race, I want to see them get to the finish line. This movie has barely walked off the starting line within four years.

All you Deadpool fans out there. Do you want FOX pushing it back more and more till people just drop interest all together and they cancel the whole thing. That's what happened to the Magneto movie. They had a script written by a well known writer, a lead actor, and a director all signed up (sound familiar). But FOX decided to go ahead with other movies and left it to slowly rot away and die.

I want FOX to either do it, or leave it alone. Stop teasing us by saying the same "We're working on it" bull-crap over and over and over and over.

Marvel studios alone managed to make both Captain America and Thor at the same time. So why is FOX doing only one movie at a time. They have enough (if not more) money than Marvel studios does since they are one of the biggest film studios behind Warner Brothers and Disney.

Think of it this way, if they started production the same time X-men first class was released, filmed it at the same time, then we'd already have seen the movie. Heck if they start production a year after they started working on First Class we'd have the movie coming out this year. It only takes two maybe three years to make a movie, it's been two years so why has this movie not even started filming yet?

I'm glad this guy finally came out and said it. "We're ready to do it, it's FOX that's slacking."

That's not the good news I was hoping for, but at least Deadpool hasn't been scrapped yet.

Why do people want Marvel to get the X-Men rights back? The whole purpose of that with characters like the Fantastic Four, Spider-Man, and Daredevil is that they would benefit from being part of a larger universe. The X-Men are very much already part of a larger universe. And the X-Men have always been much more independent than the other Marvel books. Sure Wolverine Origins was horrible, and X3 was not much better, but X-Men First Class was good enough to make up for twice that many bad movies. Fox is back on track, and now have Millar on board, I'm more than happy to see what that group can come up with.

Do people really want Wolverine in the Avengers that badly? Or an AVX movie? Because I certainly don't.

@nappystr8:

Personally, I'd love to see both Wolverine and / or Spider-Man in an Avengers title. Heck, why not group them with DD as well. Any mixture of any of the above would be absolutely epic and to me, is an absolute no brainer. It would rake in hundreds of millions without fault. Now, imagine making it an actual 'good' film? It would potentially break all records.

I absolutely love the idea and endless possibilities implicit in the idea of Marvel Team-ups ... as do many comic fans I believe, they just don't dare hope. And that's too bad. It's about time cinema caught onto the notion.

Avengers was a heck of a good start though.

I think Avengers' success as a franchise should have taught the movie execs just how much fans love seeing their favorite heroes grouped up. It's the new fan attraction IMHO.

Seeing the X-Men grouped as a team was an expectation carried within the movie's premise. And has come and gone. As has the idea of heroes adventuring on their lonesome in various interpretations of their origins and personal stories.

Time for more attractions.

I mean, on the flip side, who wouldn't want to see Batman on screen with Superman leading into a potential blockbuster JLA movie franchise?

@Super_SoldierXII: As someone who reads a considerable amount of team books, I understand where you're coming from. More bang for your buck and all that. Whedon's Avengers is a great example of how that can be done right. But for the most part the reason crossovers and team books work so well in comic books is because they are so frequently released. Character development can happen very quickly and It is hard to pump out twelve or so stories a year based on a single character. The case is not the same with movies: at most you get a single 2 hour long movie every other year for each team or superhero. Even in The Avengers, not every character got their just screen-time and development (poor Hawkeye). With Guardians of the Galaxy and Ant Man on the way, I have no doubt that Avengers 2 will be packed with even more heroes than the first as it is. Adding Spider-Man or Wolverine will only increase the roster more.

Superman and Batman on screen together is a no-brainer, I agree with that. But only because each of those characters has had over 5 movies each and numerous TV shows dating back to the 1960's introducing them to a mainstream audience. Daredevil and most Marvel characters whose film rights are helf outside of Marvel have only had one movie, EVER, no tv shows or greater franchising opportunities like toy lines or video games. Wolverine and Spider-Man have the level of popularity necessary to start branching out into other films, but neither character fits organically into the Avengers universe. Even in the comics universe, neither Spider-Man nor Wolverine has an Avengers tenure that rivals even low level members like Quasar, U.S. Agent, or D-Man.

If they were to come into the Avengers right now not only would the price to get Jackman and Garfield on board be cost prohibitive even by Disney standards, but they would immediately become the stars of the movie, relegating Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, and Hulk to be supporting cast in their own picture.

There are plenty of things that work great in comics, that will never work on the big screen. They are two very different mediums, which is a great thing. That is exactly why comics are such a great thing in the first place. The opportunities there exist that they don't anywhere else. I'm sure 20 years down the line Marvel will regain the film rights to their entire universe, and at theat time it will be really cool to see how they integrate Beast into the Avengers, or have a Spider-Man/Daredevil team-up movie. But right it would just be overkill.
