DC Showcase Original Shorts Collection Coming In November

Get ready to see Black Adam along with past animated shorts.


Who doesn't like animated shorts? Warner Home Video has announced the release date for the DC Showcase Original Shorts Collection. It will be available on Blu-ray and DVD on November 9, 2010. 
 
This isn't just a collection of past animated shorts. The Return of Black Adam leads the collection of the special features seen on this year's DC Animated releases.

In Superman/Shazam! The Return of Black Adam, Clark Kent's latest interview subject is a street kid named Billy Batson. What Clark doesn't know is Billy was chosen by an ancient wizard to represent the good of man as the World's Mightiest Mortal just by saying his name, "Shazam!" Billy soon discovers he's being pursued by a centuries' old, murderous villain, Black Adam. 
 
Jerry O'Connell provides the voice of Captain Marvel, George Newbern reprises his Justice League role as Superman, Arnold Vosloo is Black Adam and two-time Emmy Award® winner James Garner is the Wizard. Bruce Timm is the executive producer and Joaquim Dos Santos (Justice League, Avatar: The Last Airbender) is the director. Michael Jelenic (Wonder Woman) wrote the 22-minute script. 
 
The other shorts include The Spectre, Jonah Hex and Green Arrow. The single disc DVD edition features more than an hour of extra content and the Blu-ray contains more than 2 1/2 hours of extra content.

I keep saying, SHAZAM would make an awesome show.  the next animated (or live action) DC franchise!

Awesome!  The art looks fantastic too.  Modern, mainstream style with a great balance between simplicity, style, and realism (look at the detail on those hands, wow!).  I hope Marvel steps up its game if only to push DC to keep improving and looking for both mature and young audiences.  
 
When Marvel wasn't even a presence, the animated DC years were pretty lean with just Krypto and Superman and the Legion.  But with Marvel spamming the air with the VS series, Super Squad, Avengers, Iron Man Adventures, Ultimate Spidey and more, DC has to counter with things like this, Greg Weisman's Young Justice, and hopefully more quality stuff on the horizon.

Never thought about this one 'til now,  but perhaps Jerry O'Connell could be Captain Marvel in a live-action film if he buffed up just a bit?  Why not?

Oh man... And I've bought all the special editions to HAVE the DC Showcase on disc...and now you say there's gonna be a DVD/Bluray just for them?! With Shazam included?! Ooooooh....
 
I hope they have more of these original shorts, like Shazam, on it... Cause I don't really wanna buy this short collection just for one of these shorts!!

Yeah i'm in the same boat. Buying something like this for ONE 22 minute short and bonus features seems kinda silly to me as a customer (who owns the three other shorts). I really hope they surprise us with a couple more shorts. Just imagine 2 solid hours worth of DC Showcase movies....

Looking forward to these, long time Bruce Timm fan, but after seeing the DCU trailer the other week I want two hours of that.  Hopefully the game will sustain me
