DC Reveals Familiar Looking Cover for JUSTICE LEAGUE #24

A FOREVER EVIL tie in. The Crime Syndicate is ready to take over everything.

If you've been keeping up with comics and read Trinity War, you know there are some new (old) players in the New 52. If you haven't read Trinity War yet, what are you waiting for and why are you reading this?

FOREVER EVIL started this week and we saw the Crime Syndicate of America is ready to take over everything. To prove this point, DC has released the cover to JUSTICE LEAGUE #24.

No Caption Provided

For the cover of JUSTICE LEAGUE #24, which ties in directly to FOREVER EVIL, artists Ivan Reis and Joe Prado took Lee’s iconic JUSTICE LEAGUE #1 art and flipped it to give it an evil makeover. Now featuring the Crime Syndicate in place of the Justice League, this piece of art acts as both a stunning homage and a unique standalone image showcasing the new world order of the DC Universe. But allow me to pass the mic to my friend and JUSTICE LEAGUE writer Geoff Johns to tell you a little bit more about what’s going on here.

In case you don't remember or don't feel like checking out the issue page, here's the cover to JUSTICE LEAGUE #1.

No Caption Provided

JUSTICE LEAGUE #24 is on sale October 16.

@baberaham_lincoln: no Firestorm would fight Deathstorm, if anything Aquaman will by default fight Atomica and if were lucky well get a cool virtual reality fight between Cyborg and Grid

Well, is a clever touch to change the water character with the fire character if we are talking about reversed/opposites roles.

The alternate green lantern seems to be very nervous and unsure, which is a polar opposite of what hal is like, so thats pretty cool. Im wondering about that butterfly myself.. haha

Am I the only one who really hates the new Owlman design? It's especially weird because everyone else is relatively unchanged.

Owlman's costume changes almost all the time. One of the most consistent things about the Crime Syndicate every time they reappear is that Owlman's costume is different, Power Ring is a different person (usually a mirror image of the current Green Lantern), Ultraman's symbol is different, and that the core team of 5 is always intact with maybe a few others sometimes.

Finally, someone in the comments with some perspective....

And the idea of fighting "dark reflections" is interesting and all, if it hadn't been done a million times. How many times do we have to watch Superman fight evil-Superman with nigh-identical powers? This obsession with "dark versions" of the heroes is about as gripping as the Justice League posing in front of their bathroom mirror making faces.

What would have been (more) awesome would be that Jim Lee did this cover too.But I am more than fine with Ivan Reis.:)

Agreed, Ivan Reis is doing a great job on the book, but if the are going to pay homage to Jim Lee's
#1 cover, they should have had him do it. I mean, it's not like Jim Lee is so busy that he can't draw one extra cover.

It is a sad day when Cyborg and Firestorm get a Earth 3 counterpart before the Martian Manhunter.

The Crime Syndicate though, while the same, are at the same time different. Ultraman may have Superman's powers, but he isn't Kal-El. Owlman isn't Bruce Wayne either, he's Thomas Wayne Jr. Etc. The Crime Syndicate comes from a world that's the same but different from "ours." Different events happened which, by coincidence, formed an evil version of the Justice League.

That definitely appeals to me. I've always have been fascinated by things that are the same but different, so I especially soak up stories of alternate realities.

I've also noticed that villains that are similar to the hero tend to be popular with people: Venom, Zoom, Sabretooth, Sinestro, etc.

@thor_ul: Never thought of it like that, brilliant logic there!

If that wasn't DC's plan, where is the evil version of aquaman anyway?

@maccyd: Only in New52. I think bedore there was an evil alternate of Aquaman in his own series but anything related to the Justice League titles, there was Barracuda, however he was only mentioned but never seen.
