DC Reveals Creative Teams, First Art for Mass Title Reboots

Wonder Woman, Flash, Hawkman and more get relaunched with #1's, with cover art shown off for the first time!

On the heels of the announcement that all DC characters and their respective titles will be renumbered and redesigned, DC Comics has revealed today that many of their iconic characters will all be receiving all new #1 issues. Additionally, DC has also announced the creative teams for all of their upcoming new titles.

No Caption Provided

This is probably the biggest news out of DC in years, so you won't want to miss reading the full announcement and details below.

== TEASER ==

New York Times bestselling writer Brian Azzarello, author of The Joker and 100 Bullets, teams up with the immensely talented artist Cliff Chiang (Neil Young’s Greendale) for WONDER WOMAN #1, an exciting new series starring the DC Universe’s greatest superheroine. The cover to issue #1 is by Cliff Chiang.

Geoff Johns, one of comics’ greatest storytellers, reunites with GREEN LANTERN and BRIGHTEST DAY collaborator Ivan Reis to bring you a thrilling new take on the fan-favorite hero of the sea in AQUAMAN #1. The cover to issue #1 is by Ivan Reis and Joe Prado.

Rising superstar Francis Manapul, fresh off his acclaimed run on THE FLASH with Geoff Johns, makes his comics writing debut in THE FLASH #1, sharing both scripting and art duties with Brian Buccellato. The Flash knows he can’t be everywhere at once, but what happens when he faces an all-new villain who can? The cover to issue #1 is by Francis Manapul and Brian Buccellato.

Welcome to a major new vision of the Nuclear Man as writers Ethan Van Sciver and Gail Simone team up with artist Yildiray Cinar to deliver THE FURY OF FIRESTORM #1. Jason Rusch and Ronnie Raymond are two high school students, worlds apart – and now they’re drawn into a conspiracy of super science that bonds them forever in a way they can’t explain or control. The cover to issue #1 is by Ethan Van Sciver.

Batman writer Tony Daniel will team up with artist Philip Tan (GREEN LANTERN: AGENT ORANGE, THE OUTSIDERS) for THE SAVAGE HAWKMAN #1. Carter Hall’s skill at deciphering lost languages has led him to a job with an archeologist who specializes in alien ruins – but will the doctor’s latest discovery spread an alien plague through New York City? No matter the personal cost, Carter Hall must don his cowl and wings and become the new, savage Hawkman to survive. The cover to issue #1 is by Philip Tan.

Oliver Queen is an orphan who grew up to fight crime as the Green Arrow, a billionaire playboy who uses his fortune to become a superhero – able to fight the most powerful super-villains in the universe with nothing but a bow and arrow. JT Krul will write GREEN ARROW #1 with art by superstar artist Dan Jurgens. The cover to issue #1 is by Brett Booth.

A team of internationally-drafted superheroes fight each other and their bureaucratic supervisors as much as they do global crime in JUSTICE LEAGUE INTERNATIONAL #1 from writer Dan Jurgens and artist Aaron Lopresti. The cover to issue #1 is by Aaron Lopresti.

The world’s third-smartest man – and one of its most eligible bachelors – uses his brains and fists against science gone mad in MISTER TERRIFIC #1, the new series from writer Eric Wallace and artist Roger Robinson. The cover to issue #1 is by J.G. Jones.

Captain Atom has all the power in the world, but no hope of saving himself. Charged by nuclear energy, possessing vast molecular powers, he has the potential to be a god among men – a hero without limits. But the question is this: Will he lose himself in the process? JT Krul and artist Freddie Williams II take the character in a bold new direction in CAPTAIN ATOM #1. The cover to issue #1 is by Stanley “Artgem” Lau.

The anthology series gets a new look in DC Universe Presents, a new series that will focus on multi-issue story arcs each featuring a different superhero from the DC Universe’s rich cast of characters, told by some of comics’ most exciting writers and artitsts. DC UNIVERSE PRESENTS #1 kicks off the first arc of the series: a Deadman story by Paul Jenkins and Bernard Chang. The cover to issue #1 is by Ryan Sook.

Looks like many of the characters we have grown to love during Brightest Day will be returning with a vengeance, yet there are still two major characters that appear in DC's all new Justice League book that are clearly missing from the list of new first issues; Superman and Batman. The big question- will DC's big two be completely rebooted and renumbered as well? What do you think of the news and of all the creative teams? Which are you most looking forward to?

Hmmm...I see a ZERO HERO coming in 10 years lol
The GOOD: A new Firestorm book, A-list talent on AQUAMAN, and Manaupul stays on the Flash, The return of Dan Jurgens
The BAD: WW's art team, SAVAGE Hawkman, No JLA but JLI with a crappy Booster Gold outfit and no Blue Beetle?!?

Ok, so this reboot now involves the one character I actually follow (Booster Gold! The greates hero you've never heard of!), so here's it;
Who's the chick in Black and Gold and the monster guy with duodient with the JLI? Why is Vixen with them? Where's Blue Beetle? And what's the deal with Booster's outfit? (he's Reboot proof, right? Right? Right?)
I do dig Wondy's cover though.

The only one I'll be getting is WW. And that is actually solely due to the artist. I really don't like Az writing superheroes...

Wow. They all look pretty darn good. The one I'm looking forward to the most so far is probably Aquaman.

I like most of these teams, and I am willing to try some of the other ones. I hope my bank is ready though. If they put a Captain Marvel book in then that would seal the deal. Also reset to Ted Kord.

Well I've gotta say that I'm worried and dissappointed with the DC Universe "twist". Lately there have been some of the best (or better than average) Batman stories and the character has grown so much both as what he represents and the person behind the cape. Fact is it's not just him, pretty much everything is going to crumble down and be rebuilt for the sake of $.

I like new costumes and gadgets. I like the idea of new stories, but they come at a very high price this time around. Personally I hope that this new "wave" of books will be good, but no matter how they'll be they will always make me remember all those decades of continuity that was lost just so they could exist.

I'm sure there are going to be some good story and from what I've seen some of the costume designs look great but just think of all those characters that maybe weren't as "big" but you've always fancied them like the Birds of Prey, Red Robin or Batgirl (ofc there are loads of other characters, I'm just more into the Batman related stuff). What will happen to those people? Huntress is one of my favorite female superheroes and so far there haven't been any news about her or the other birds. Not to mention ... what if this new Batman isn't Dick Grayson or Bruce Wayne ... what if they'll go with Thomas like in the Flashpoint tie-in? (I do doubt that but I feel that whatever happens there will probably be quite a few popular characters that will get the proverbial boot).

Also what about all those side-kicks? What will happen to the Teen Titans and the other "growing" heroes. I hope they'll still be in there somewhere and not get "lost" like the Young Justice cartoon.

Guess we'll get a few answers in September yet I can only hope the good ideas that pushed the industry forward and made it last until today will not be replaced with a hastily mumbo-jumbo put together just to push forward a revamp of the universe with lame stories and "modern-day" implications.

P.S.: If anyone has some news of the Bat-family & Birds of Prey post a linkie pls I haven't seen anything about them yet so I'm curious :P

The "reboot" is only affecting the superhero line of books so Jonah Hex would most definitely not qualify.

I'm still going to remain optimistic about this, though some of the work leaves me a little dismayed.  Aquaman sounds like fun, firestorm is interesting I suppose.  The other titles haven't been announced yet so it looks like Power-Girl, the Legion, and Zatanna are on the bubble.  Johns and Didio both like Jaime so he's probably safe.  Something with the Marvel Family will be in the works, as the Flash Family.  My inner fanboy is hoping that nothing bad happens to the Legion though, I really got into that title, I hope they don't cancel it and I also hope that Levitz will keep writing it, Its my new favorite team, I don't want to read the X-Men anymore.

@CrimsonTempest: Agreed, I prefer his current look (where is his spiffy jacket :O). Take away the tattoo, and he'd be alright (in my eyes) though

Out of this group, I'm most interested in WW, Aquaman, and Deadman. Gail Simone on Firestorm and apparantly off Birds of Prey (unconfirmed, I think) is really strange, but I may give it a go.

And I'm worried about whats going to happen to Supes and Batman. Batman, a little more so, I don't want them to just throw Batman Inc. away.

Ain't it contradictive that for a man that prides himself to be the third-smartest man in the world, he has to have a tattoo that says "Fair Play" like he emigrated out of the ghetto? Personally, I liked his previous design better.

Yeah I'm worried about PG too
yeah i don't see how Powergirl can exist if Supergirl does, i mean isn't her whole existence basically a loophole? she was one of the rare people from Earth 2 to survive the multiverse being destroyed? if there is no Earth 2, nor a Multiverse, how the heck will she even BE there??

The new Hawkman's going to take a little getting used to. I bet that later he'll find out that he's Thanagarian or at the very least a cross-breed between Earthling and Thanagarian.

I hope they do something to restructure the kids comics universe too, it could be doing so much better then it is if they actually marketed it, they have such good books. Advertise it, add a few more titles and drop the prices to $1.99 and they will beat out Marvel's kids line easily. I don't think I've ever seen a commercial for the Cartoon Network DC comics on the Cartoon Network channel I mean come on how dense are they.

Wonder Woman: Pull -YES, I'm in with WW, unless she's with Superman, if that is the case I will stick around for a bit to see if she dumps his arse.  If not, I'm out.
Aquaman:  Dull
The Flash: Dull
The Fury of Firestorm: Pull - YES, I'm in with Gail Simone.
Hawkman
  Dull
Green Arrow: Dull
Justice League International: Dull
Mister Terrific: Dull
DC Universe Presents: Dull

So far that's two new DC books I will pull, each only tentatively.  If they are not what I hope for, I'll let them go.  I am hoping we will hear more definitive news about some books I currently pull.  Books I am very happy with, books I don't want to lose.  I have been wanting to cut my pull list, of nearly 40 books per month, DC could be doing me a favor.  But it is a favor I could do with out, I want to keep my books.... DC don't get too carried away with this stunt, it's all fun, exciting and too damn scary for some of us loyal fans who never hated you or felt the need for a reboot, in the first place.

My Current DC pull list:
  1. Wonder Woman
  2. Secret Six
  3. Detective Comics
  4. Batman & Robin
  5. Birds of Prey
  6. Batgirl
  7. Supergirl
  8. Zatanna
  9. Batwoman
  10. Teen Titans
  11. Tiny Titans
Wondering how many DC books I'll be pulling this time next year?

I'm with you on Wonder Woman.  Why are they bothering to shake it up again?  Makes no sense to me.

This is all a publicity stunt.  People are talking about DC and that is what they wanted.  I hope in the end we will have some positive results for some of our favorite books.  I'm trying to keep an open mind.

Yeah just when I was starting to enjoy DC's comics...this happens. Situations like this are why I generally stick to indy comics or titles that exist in their own little corner of a company.

I heard she will
