DC Reveals Creative Teams, First Art for Mass Title Reboots

Wonder Woman, Flash, Hawkman and more get relaunched with #1's, with cover art shown off for the first time!

On the heels of the announcement that all DC characters and their respective titles will be renumbered and redesigned, DC Comics has revealed today that many of their iconic characters will all be receiving all new #1 issues. Additionally, DC has also announced the creative teams for all of their upcoming new titles.

No Caption Provided

This is probably the biggest news out of DC in years, so you won't want to miss reading the full announcement and details below.

== TEASER ==

New York Times bestselling writer Brian Azzarello, author of The Joker and 100 Bullets, teams up with the immensely talented artist Cliff Chiang (Neil Young’s Greendale) for WONDER WOMAN #1, an exciting new series starring the DC Universe’s greatest superheroine. The cover to issue #1 is by Cliff Chiang.

Geoff Johns, one of comics’ greatest storytellers, reunites with GREEN LANTERN and BRIGHTEST DAY collaborator Ivan Reis to bring you a thrilling new take on the fan-favorite hero of the sea in AQUAMAN #1. The cover to issue #1 is by Ivan Reis and Joe Prado.

Rising superstar Francis Manapul, fresh off his acclaimed run on THE FLASH with Geoff Johns, makes his comics writing debut in THE FLASH #1, sharing both scripting and art duties with Brian Buccellato. The Flash knows he can’t be everywhere at once, but what happens when he faces an all-new villain who can? The cover to issue #1 is by Francis Manapul and Brian Buccellato.

Welcome to a major new vision of the Nuclear Man as writers Ethan Van Sciver and Gail Simone team up with artist Yildiray Cinar to deliver THE FURY OF FIRESTORM #1. Jason Rusch and Ronnie Raymond are two high school students, worlds apart – and now they’re drawn into a conspiracy of super science that bonds them forever in a way they can’t explain or control. The cover to issue #1 is by Ethan Van Sciver.

Batman writer Tony Daniel will team up with artist Philip Tan (GREEN LANTERN: AGENT ORANGE, THE OUTSIDERS) for THE SAVAGE HAWKMAN #1. Carter Hall’s skill at deciphering lost languages has led him to a job with an archeologist who specializes in alien ruins – but will the doctor’s latest discovery spread an alien plague through New York City? No matter the personal cost, Carter Hall must don his cowl and wings and become the new, savage Hawkman to survive. The cover to issue #1 is by Philip Tan.

Oliver Queen is an orphan who grew up to fight crime as the Green Arrow, a billionaire playboy who uses his fortune to become a superhero – able to fight the most powerful super-villains in the universe with nothing but a bow and arrow. JT Krul will write GREEN ARROW #1 with art by superstar artist Dan Jurgens. The cover to issue #1 is by Brett Booth.

A team of internationally-drafted superheroes fight each other and their bureaucratic supervisors as much as they do global crime in JUSTICE LEAGUE INTERNATIONAL #1 from writer Dan Jurgens and artist Aaron Lopresti. The cover to issue #1 is by Aaron Lopresti.

The world’s third-smartest man – and one of its most eligible bachelors – uses his brains and fists against science gone mad in MISTER TERRIFIC #1, the new series from writer Eric Wallace and artist Roger Robinson. The cover to issue #1 is by J.G. Jones.

Captain Atom has all the power in the world, but no hope of saving himself. Charged by nuclear energy, possessing vast molecular powers, he has the potential to be a god among men – a hero without limits. But the question is this: Will he lose himself in the process? JT Krul and artist Freddie Williams II take the character in a bold new direction in CAPTAIN ATOM #1. The cover to issue #1 is by Stanley “Artgem” Lau.

The anthology series gets a new look in DC Universe Presents, a new series that will focus on multi-issue story arcs each featuring a different superhero from the DC Universe’s rich cast of characters, told by some of comics’ most exciting writers and artitsts. DC UNIVERSE PRESENTS #1 kicks off the first arc of the series: a Deadman story by Paul Jenkins and Bernard Chang. The cover to issue #1 is by Ryan Sook.

Looks like many of the characters we have grown to love during Brightest Day will be returning with a vengeance, yet there are still two major characters that appear in DC's all new Justice League book that are clearly missing from the list of new first issues; Superman and Batman. The big question- will DC's big two be completely rebooted and renumbered as well? What do you think of the news and of all the creative teams? Which are you most looking forward to?

I'm excitedly hoping this means Batman doesn't get rebooted. His current storylines are pretty awesome and actually something never explored before in his continuity.

No reason for me to care at the moment.
Do we know for certain these characters will no longer exist?

Glad to see some of the others though like Guy on the team again.
Thanks for the info
It's funny, the only reason I know of Martian Manhunter is because of a Robot Chicken episode

Definitely excited for September. But I want to know -- what's going to happen to the Green Lantern Corps.?
Green Lantern Corps is still around sir. Hal is in the new J.L.A
Just because Hal is around doesn't guarantee that the Corps is going to be around.
So somehow the entire Green Lantern Corps will be destroyed but not Guy, or Hal, Or the lantern that will appear in the multi colored book?
Very doubtful
It's not really that far-fetched. We've yet to see Kyle or John let alone the rest of the entire Corps -- that's all I'm saying. We don't really know how much this reboot is going to change things. I sincerely hope that the Corps is around after August 31, but there's a chance that the entire Green Lantern mythos could get an overhaul to the degree that we won't have a Corps any longer.

With what they are doing with War of The Green Lanterns and now releasing a new Abin Sur mini for Flashpoint that would be extremely unlikely.
In the new multi-colored book all the other Corps are still around working as a team.
If you've been following the War of the Green Lanterns story arc you will know that one of the Earth Green Lanterns will no longer possess a GL ring. Most say it will be Kyle.
Anything is possible but there is simply no reason to believe that DC will kill every other members of the Green Lantern Corps.
There have been costume changes and tweaks to some characters origin stories...but they have not suggested they will be doing anything on this level.

It's already been mentioned many times that the majority of what has happened to the Green Lanterns over the years isn't going to change so there is no reason to think the corps would be gone, especially with the new movie, any new readers coming in from the movie with be expecting the corps.

Just want to echo the thoughts of others here.  What happens to Wally, Kyle, Bart, Cassie, Connor, Tim, Damian, Stephanie Brown,  Roy, Garth, J'onn, The Secret Six, the list can go on and on there are so many characters that could be viewed as expendable at the alter of revamp and simplicity.  Based on the JLI cover I'm wondering if that isn't Dick as Batman there, I'm only hoping this because it sure looks like it could be Donna under him there.  Yes that sounded dirty.

BTW - I'm calling this now Hal Jordan contains Ion.

i think your all worrying to much about the corps. I would safe the coprs is that safest thing out there right now since Geoff Johns is the one that wrote it's history. He isnt going to retcon out 5 or 6 years of his own work. I think the whole 3 of 4 earth lanterns thing will still be around  when all this rebooting is done. We already know all the different colored lantern corps will survive the reboot.

They already said there will be a Nightwing #1 most likely so i would guess that is Dick. I would like to see Dick be Batman still though.

As for Donna i was curious about who that is as well. Thats quite a different look for her.

Booster Gold looks HORRENDOUS! Not every character needed a redesign! I liked the old new Batsuit (Bruce's) more than this one, Captain Atom's mohawk looks dumb, Firestorm(s) look like a joke, and who is the rocky looking guy in that Justice League?

HAWKMAN SMASH! (My first thought when i read the title of that particular book)

While i am slightly intrigued about Mr. Terrific, Firestorm and Captain Atom getting a book each, the rest aren't stirring me excitement.

And with Krul on 2 books already, i am worrying he wont be on TT anymore (leaving it open to people like Henderson and Robinson...).

Hm... Looks pretty cool. I just hope we won't lose some of my favorite titles with this reboot. I love reading Birds of Prey, Secret Six, Gotham City Sirens, Zatanna, Teen Titans, Batman Inc, and Doom Patrol, so I hope that those vesiges of the original universe remain to continue to be enjoyed. Besides, some of them just started out, and most of them had just begun new story arcs. Hell, Solstice has only been with the Titans for a few issues for cryin' out loud!

I'm pretty sure that these images (mostly) are just good news for us.  We're all assuming that #1's mean complete overhaul but it could just be that, new #1's.  That looks an awful lot like Dick Grayson's Batman and if you compare it to The JL cover, it doesn't look to be the same.  DC could just be trying to draw new readers in without isolating the fans.  It IS a possibility.  There's a lot of heat being thrown towards Geoff Johns right now, but I don't remember seeing that before, let's just calm down an wait as more is going to be revealed and we'll get the whole answer soon.  K thanks.

i agree the JLI Batman does look like Dick but i think thats just bc of the different artists. The one thing i noticed is that both Batmen form each Justice League are missing the famous 2 or 3 spikes coming off the arms.

I'm officially excited about this. I'm wary about whoever's going to be writing Birds of Prey and bummed they have Gail on a book that I'm not interested in at all, but I"m looking forward to the vast majority of this.

I understand that people don't like change, I really do, but people should at least be giving it a chance. They've already said that Blackest Night will still have taken place, so it seems to me that they're just wiping the slate clean a little bit and retooling characters as opposed to starting COMPLETELY over.

@DEGRAAF: It's really just a gut feeling (maybe wishful thinking?), based on her history with all the other members shown, plus her previous work in Justice League International... I don't think it's Donna because of that reason, Donna has never (at least to my knowledge) been part of the international team... but anything is possible I suppose...

Okay, JLI is fine, Aquaman is fine (if they keep it and JLI with previous stories) and DC Universe Presents is fine (I've always lobbied for the return of anthology titles), but here's my take for the rest:

They belong as DC's Ultimate stuff, NOT the mainstream continuity. :

-Hawkman: A simple fix that would have worked to get this guy's history unmuddied could have been done WAY back in the 80's-Carter and Shiera Hall were the Golden Age Hawks. They retire when the JSA disbands. When Katar and Shayera Hall show up, the first people they meet are the Halls, and get their blessings to become the new Hawks. A little later, it inspires the Halls to take the wings back up, leading to the meetings of the two sets of Hawks at each JLA/JSA teamup. Something disturbing happens on Thanagar, Katar and Shayera go back and decide to stay to bring things under control (which includes Katar becoming police commissioner of the Wingmen and Shayera becoming, IDK, a councilwoman or something), leaving the Halls as the only Hawks on Earth. No Hawkworld, no mess because of Zero Hour, no nothing.
-Green Arrow: Didn't need to kill Prometheus, could have just wounded him long enough so the guy could be tried and, IDK, lobotomized or something (like what they did to the bad guy in the Shadow movie). Then he wouldn't be a fugitive. This new origin just makes him an Ultimate Bruce Wayne. The old shipwrecked castaway story was fine.
-Mr. Terrific: Why does he need to be another Bruce Wayne in his civillian life? He was one of the most calm and collected members of the JSA, why are they doing this to him?
-Captain Atom: Cheap Dr. Manhattan ripoff. Would've worked better if they had him doing something like GI Joe (the team, not the toy).
-Firestorm: The premise works fine for an Ultimate version. If they kept the mainstream (in the aftermath of Brightest Day), a better premise would've been Ronnie now working as a school coach (like he is in Batman: The Brave and the Bold), but because of him being in his (20's?), he's the coach of an elementary school or middle school, while Jason's in college.

That WW art looks horrid. Like the look of Firestorm but dont know how long I can put up with two teens yelling at each other. Deadman looks good. New Powers for Captain Atom= blah. Hawkman might turn out to be a surprise although I cant see them keep up with the archeology for very long, maybe 6 issues. Mr. Terrific sounds pulpish but readable. My wallet will be very flat that month thats for sure.

A mister Terrific series sounds pretty sweet, and having a batman in both JLA & JLI might mean that the batman series hasn't been completly rebooted (dick still batman?) or at least i hope so........ i still need my fix of red robin and batgirl.... until we get more confirmation of stuff like that i'm still going to be on the fence about this.

I think its funny that the Firestorm is now two people rather than 2 people in one body. cause now it just reminds me of something from back in the 70's and 80's.
