DC Reveals Creative Teams, First Art for Mass Title Reboots

Wonder Woman, Flash, Hawkman and more get relaunched with #1's, with cover art shown off for the first time!

On the heels of the announcement that all DC characters and their respective titles will be renumbered and redesigned, DC Comics has revealed today that many of their iconic characters will all be receiving all new #1 issues. Additionally, DC has also announced the creative teams for all of their upcoming new titles.

This is probably the biggest news out of DC in years, so you won't want to miss reading the full announcement and details below.

== TEASER ==

New York Times bestselling writer Brian Azzarello, author of The Joker and 100 Bullets, teams up with the immensely talented artist Cliff Chiang (Neil Young’s Greendale) for WONDER WOMAN #1, an exciting new series starring the DC Universe’s greatest superheroine. The cover to issue #1 is by Cliff Chiang.

Geoff Johns, one of comics’ greatest storytellers, reunites with GREEN LANTERN and BRIGHTEST DAY collaborator Ivan Reis to bring you a thrilling new take on the fan-favorite hero of the sea in AQUAMAN #1. The cover to issue #1 is by Ivan Reis and Joe Prado.

Rising superstar Francis Manapul, fresh off his acclaimed run on THE FLASH with Geoff Johns, makes his comics writing debut in THE FLASH #1, sharing both scripting and art duties with Brian Buccellato. The Flash knows he can’t be everywhere at once, but what happens when he faces an all-new villain who can? The cover to issue #1 is by Francis Manapul and Brian Buccellato.

Welcome to a major new vision of the Nuclear Man as writers Ethan Van Sciver and Gail Simone team up with artist Yildiray Cinar to deliver THE FURY OF FIRESTORM #1. Jason Rusch and Ronnie Raymond are two high school students, worlds apart – and now they’re drawn into a conspiracy of super science that bonds them forever in a way they can’t explain or control. The cover to issue #1 is by Ethan Van Sciver.

Batman writer Tony Daniel will team up with artist Philip Tan (GREEN LANTERN: AGENT ORANGE, THE OUTSIDERS) for THE SAVAGE HAWKMAN #1. Carter Hall’s skill at deciphering lost languages has led him to a job with an archeologist who specializes in alien ruins – but will the doctor’s latest discovery spread an alien plague through New York City? No matter the personal cost, Carter Hall must don his cowl and wings and become the new, savage Hawkman to survive. The cover to issue #1 is by Philip Tan.

Oliver Queen is an orphan who grew up to fight crime as the Green Arrow, a billionaire playboy who uses his fortune to become a superhero – able to fight the most powerful super-villains in the universe with nothing but a bow and arrow. JT Krul will write GREEN ARROW #1 with art by superstar artist Dan Jurgens. The cover to issue #1 is by Brett Booth.

A team of internationally-drafted superheroes fight each other and their bureaucratic supervisors as much as they do global crime in JUSTICE LEAGUE INTERNATIONAL #1 from writer Dan Jurgens and artist Aaron Lopresti. The cover to issue #1 is by Aaron Lopresti.

The world’s third-smartest man – and one of its most eligible bachelors – uses his brains and fists against science gone mad in MISTER TERRIFIC #1, the new series from writer Eric Wallace and artist Roger Robinson. The cover to issue #1 is by J.G. Jones.

Captain Atom has all the power in the world, but no hope of saving himself. Charged by nuclear energy, possessing vast molecular powers, he has the potential to be a god among men – a hero without limits. But the question is this: Will he lose himself in the process? JT Krul and artist Freddie Williams II take the character in a bold new direction in CAPTAIN ATOM #1. The cover to issue #1 is by Stanley “Artgem” Lau.

The anthology series gets a new look in DC Universe Presents, a new series that will focus on multi-issue story arcs each featuring a different superhero from the DC Universe’s rich cast of characters, told by some of comics’ most exciting writers and artitsts. DC UNIVERSE PRESENTS #1 kicks off the first arc of the series: a Deadman story by Paul Jenkins and Bernard Chang. The cover to issue #1 is by Ryan Sook.

Looks like many of the characters we have grown to love during Brightest Day will be returning with a vengeance, yet there are still two major characters that appear in DC's all new Justice League book that are clearly missing from the list of new first issues; Superman and Batman. The big question- will DC's big two be completely rebooted and renumbered as well? What do you think of the news and of all the creative teams? Which are you most looking forward to?

Wonder Woman re-launch again. No good news for her..... Ever! No TV; No original costume and No continuity.... I just start reading from 600 after 11 isues is back to number ONE. DC is just silly. This is not interesting why do we need a new begining when we just had one.

Green Arrow's new costume is very... Smallville.

Some of these covers are horrible.

Some of these sound decent, not sure about Hawkman though he looks a little "extreme" there and very Qwardian.

still no sign of Martian Manhunter or Captain Marvel. Depressing
Glad to see some of the others though like Guy on the team again.
Thanks for the info

I'm really just hoping that they will be streamlining crazzy backgrounds of people like Hawkman while at the same time keeping characters like Green Lantern and Batman more or less the same. As long as this whole ploy to make things more "relevant" doesn't touch characters that are already relevant I'll be happy

I'm so happy about this look at all those awesome writers and artist.

Green Lantern Corps is still around sir. Hal is in the new J.L.A

I'm still very worried that this will bomb.

Lets see;

  • No Batgirl
  • No Supergirl
  • No Power Girl
No reason for me to care at the moment.

I can't help but feel DC is shooting themselves over this one. I have to agree, I really don't know why they feel the need to do this. They've had numerous events to fix continuities, if it still got messed up after all that, this is putting a band aid on a torn off limb. Not gonna help much.

I think the covers look nice. I also think that the creative teams are really cool. I was a little surprised at who got their own series, but hey, maybe they will work.

Second pic from the top, there is a woman in black and gold I don't recognize. Help?

Posted by SirSparkington

Azarello on WW? Yes. EVS & Simone of Firestorm? Yes! Jurgens on JLI and Green Arrow? YES!!
These creative teams sound great.

Also, that EVS Firestorm cover is awesome.

My thoughts on each of these titles:
Wonder-Woman: Yeah I'll picking this one up! :D
The Flash: yeah.......maybe.....I miss Wally! :(
JLI: yeah definitely picking this up, i need more JLI in my life!
The Fury Of Firestorm: Picking this one up too!
Aquaman: Yeah ,another title that I will be getting!
Hawkman: Maybe.......
Green Arrow: Meh......not a green arrow to be honest. :)
Captain Atom: Meh....not really sure.
Mister Terrific: Meh..need to check out the first issue before I decide futher
DC Universe Presents: Meh...I like Deadman so i might check it out :)

(I'm also waiting on news for what's going to be happening with Martian Manhunter, Captain Marvel, Black Adam, Doom patrol, Cassandra Cain, Animal Man, Plastic Man and The Question)

To be honest, all I'm interested in is Batman, Power Girl & Birds of Prey.  Two of those aren't mentioned here.  I read that Gail Simone may not be doing BoP any more.  (Comic Book Resources) I hope that's not the case.

Geoff Johns and Dan Didio have become psychotic megalomaniacs who want to return everything to the way it was when they were kids. Jim Lee, awesome as he is, really doesn't seem to care about the characters/

Still super skeptical about this but, I must say...
LOOK AT THAT HAWKMAN COVER!

Ahem.  Anyway, still severely torn on how to feel.  I want this to be a good thing, and I want DC to be doing this for the right reasons.  Only time will tell.

Posted by KNIGHT SAVIOR

HELL YEAH FOR ALL THEM !!!!!!!!!!!!, I love these heroes since l was kid if DC can revised them l'm all for it
Posted by JimmyOlsen1

I'm not sure about all this stuff but I guess this isn't a very bad idea ...

If this is Johns brainchild then i must say i'm impressed. He's either much more smarter than i thought or he's a lunatic taking a big gamble.

Either way VERY IMPRESSIVE.

I like these writers, but just because you can convince a writer I like to say, jump off a bridge, doesn't change the fact that they're jumping off a bridge! This reeks of desperation....although so does coming out with a "Crisis" crossover every two years.

Damn it DC! I had just re-learned how to get along with you.

This is madness! The good kind of madness, not the madness that gets you kicked into a pit never to be heard of again.

Just because Hal is around doesn't guarantee that the Corps is going to be around.

I agre. Plus you have to remember, it is rare that a creative team actually STAYS on the book for an extended amount of time. First 3 months will pump up sales and after 6 month, it may turn to crap cause there is a new team on the book and it turns to crap.

So somehow the entire Green Lantern Corps will be destroyed but not Guy, or Hal, Or the lantern that will appear in the multi colored book?
Very doubtful

What else did Ethan Van Sciver write? I loved his art in the Rebirths but I don't remember seeing him credited as a writer before...

I don't currently follow any DC books other than Red Robin, so this may be a good point to jump on for me.  From the covers and creative teams WW, JLI and Flash look cool, so might pick up those books again.  I just want to know what's going to happen to Dick, Tim, Cassie, Power Girl, Hawk Girl, Wally, the BOP and the (Teen) Titans, because those are really the only other DC characters I follow regularly.

Just when I was finally starting to get a hold of the DC universe they went and did this.  The covers look great, some ideas sound good but no reason to start over completely.  Ultimatize it.  Plus,  With so many drastic changes DC has had to have been planning this for a LOOONG time.  Thinking of this I wonder why the hell some of the stories that were written were written.  What's the point of Batman Inc.?  All the Crisis stories?  Mostly what's gonna happen with the younger hero's that so many fans love.  Red Robin, Superboy,  if that little bastard that is finally growing on us Damian Wayne.  Jason Todd?  So strange and we have 3 to wait to find out.  The cats now out of the bag.  We know it's happening, clue us in because a lot more people are pissed then excited.  Me...............I'm conflicted.  Happy to see JLI is gonna happen.  Will Booster be the guy who has his memories still?
