DC Revamp: DC Announces Seven Titles With a Harder Edge Including Deathstroke and Grifter

More DC Comics #1s are announced and these characters will stab you in the eye if you say bad things about this batch.

Deathstroke #1
Deathstroke #1

Time for a daily dose of new DC Comics revamp #1s via DC's The Source. These comics will have a harder edge, meaning, these characters are not your typical heroes.

Deathstroke #1 is one I am excited for (and so I'm choosing to mention it first). Deathstroke will reclaim his fearsome legacy by any means necessary. Written by rising star Kyle Higgins (heck yeah!) and artists Joe Bennett and Art Thibert.

Stormwatch #1 will have a dangerous super human strike force whose existence is kept secret from the world. Who is on this team? The cover is below but the team will be lead by Jack Hawksmoor and he wants to recruit two of the deadliest super humans on the planet: Midnighter and Apollo. If they say no, perhaps Martian Manhunter can help to change their minds. Stormwatch will be written by Paul Cornell with art by Miguel Sepulveda.

Blackhawks #1 will feature an elite group of mercenaries made up of brave men from around the world equipped with the latest in cutting-edge hardware and vehicles. Their mission is a simple one: kill the bad guys before they kill us. It will be written by Mike Costa with art by Ken Lashley.

Time to visit the past with an update of Sgt. Rock and the Men of War #1. The grandson of the original Sgt. Rock assumes command of Easy Company, a team of crack ex-miliatry men finance by a covert military contractor. They will brave the battle-scarred landscape carved by the DC Universe's super-villains. Sgt. Rock will be written by Ivan Brandon and illustrated by Tom Derenick.

What about Jonah Hex? There won't be a Jonah Hex comic anymore. What?!? That's right. Going back to Gotham City when it was just a one-horse town, crime is running wild as you would expect. Things don't get better when bounty Hunter Jonah Hex comes to town. Amadeus Arkham, a pioneer in criminal psychology, tries to enlist Hex to help the Gotham City Police Department track down a serial killer. Back up stories will star DC's other western heroes. All-Star Western #1 will be written by the fan-favorite Jonah Hex team of Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Gray. Art will be by Moritat.

Grifter #1 will feature ex-black ops agent Cole Cash who is about to be branded as a serial killer when he begins hunting and exterminating inhuman creatures hidden in human form. These are creatures that only he can see. We'll have to see if he can sweet talk his way out of this mess. Written by Nathan Edmondson with art by CAFU and BIT.

Finally in OMAC #1, a man loses control of his life as the omnipresent Brother Eye transforms him against his will into a powerful killing machine. Written by DC Comics Co-Publisher Dan DiDio and co-written and illustrated by Keith Giffen and Scott Koblish.

Here's the rest of the artwork.

Those lying bastards (Didio and Lee)!!! they said in their second USA Today interview it was only affecting the super hero titles >_< I'm glad Jonah Hex is still around with the writer but they better not mess him up.

WTH is up with Deathstrokes massive sword, weak.

new costumes for Apollo and Midnighter look dreadful and Martian Manhunter doesn't belong in Stormwatch and how is it he is the only character to not get a costume change??? that looks like the same exact costume he has been wearing since his death.

Some of these look good, but in all honesty I get a feeling like about half of these titles won't be around this time next year.

well if any of them peak your interest......u better enjoy them while they last ^_^

Why is Martian Manhunter on StormWatch? I'm not feeling it.

Grifter may be the only thing I'm interested in and maybe Blackhawks...Deathstroke looks silly.

I like the idea of having Stormwatch back, but by having Apollo and Midnighter this feels more like a tone down version of the Authority, unless they also have Winter. (I love that crazy Russkie).
I am also concerned that DC would change the relationship between Midnighter and Apollo, it was very nice to have a maried gay couple in the comics, and their interactions were almost a rom com, with bits of drama.

Jack Hawksmoor, WOO-HOOOO! It wasn't two days ago that I wished precisely for this, but I thought there wasn't a chance in hell.

Damn, Stormwatch are going to be ridiculously strong: the King of Cities + Wildstorm's version of Superman + an unbeatable fighter who would defeat all of the DCU's top brawlers with his hands tied... and Martian Manhunter on top of that? I say they should go all the way and bring the rest of the Authority over.

And yet, still no sign of Secret Six. :((((( For shame, DC, for shame...

Damn I'm really looking forward to the whole reboot but I just feel like mixing the Wildstorm characters in with the normal will just clean them up and restrict them too much. I don't really like Jack's new look I always preferred his classic style and Midnighter's not bad but I think they did that just to make him look less like Batman ,but I wonder how the reboot will effect the alternate universes.

I read the Millar and Morrison run on Authority and it was interesting.  At the very least Midnighter and Jack Hawksmoor were cool charaters.  Apollo was a leaky battery.  Not really into reading the whole gay thing about them.  Hope they're not gonna be gay now but I think they will be because some people will just whine if they are not.  Interesting none the less to see Grifter and those guys in DCU.  should be interesting.  I am also ecstatic to see Deathstroke lose his dumbass pirate boots too.  Grifter looks like he has on hockey pads.  Where's the trench?

all of these sound really good, except the western one(i never got into jonah hex or westerns)

i like that the wilderstorm universe is coming into dc universe.

but midnighter has a terrible redesign. his suit was already modern and cool, they messed it up. and idk if the guy in the front is jack hawksmoor or apollo, either way, another terrible redesign.(personally apollo's old supersuit was my favorite supersuit ever)

They made Midnighter ... all ... shiny.  With Hawksmoor's old shoulder pads.  >.<

Curious as to see if they will keep Midnighter and Jack as violently dark as in WSU, or Midnighter's relationship with Apollo. Time will tell I guess. Grifter is a good choice for the WSU character test drive - hopefully these and the Voodoo title will eventually open up more WSU integration.

As for the new host of #1s, as a never been a DC person (nor particularly enjoy their main selection of characters) - this relaunch will be doing me a favour. I'll be checking out a large chunk of these first issues.

Why is Raven's soul-self in Sgt. Rock and the Men of War #1 cover? D:
And why does Deathstroke (even though he looks so cool) looks like he is going on a magical quest with that giant sword?

Deathstroke series should be awesome. About time he got one. Not only that but he was definitely a character that needed a costume adjustment. The boots were killing me before.

And I'm just calling it now, but that OMAC series wont last. The series already sounds stupid

a good portion of these titles makes me feel like DC is trying to appeal to the Call of Duty/Battlefield/Gears of War crowd. Not a bad move but they've gotta do more than that to appeal to them IMO.
If DC had the guts and the cash they should invest in a Blackhawks fps game with all the multi-player trimmings.

And YAY!
Jonah Hex will continue! With the same writers! With the change of title I hope they'll feature some stories of the others Old West DC characters, like the Trigger Twins, El Diablo, etc..

Deathstroke appeared in New Teen Titans (vol. 1) #2 (December 1980), Deadpool appeared in New Mutants #98 (February, 1991). You can do the math for yourself and if you don't believe me then just look at their CV pages above.

Stormwatch seemed pretty interesting, then I saw the cover. Though it's pretty much a rip off of Secret Avengers. Sgt. Rock seems like a missed opportunity, could of been cool updating it for modern times but mixing it with the regular DC universe. Blackhawks idea is redundant. Grifter is basically the same thing.

How can they depict Gotham as western town, when they are clearly on the shore? I mean, how often have we seen Batman ride in his bat boat and stop drug shipments?

man alive... is this why they killed the wildstorm universe? to bring them into the DCU? does anyone remember that gears of war, and CALL OF DUTY and previously THE ASSASSINS CREED SERIES were in wildstorm?!?!!?! oh god, i do not want to see ghost from modern warfare 2 team up with superman. i like how they are trying to integrate the wildstorm guys, but i doubt it will last for long. i know what books i am picking up though.
