DC Plans 9 Films Leading Up to 2020

While the titles are not revealed, DC has set opening dates for their upcoming films

No Caption Provided

According to Variety, Warner Bros. announced dates for 9 upcoming films based on DC Entertainment comic characters and properties from 2016-2020.. Marvel Studios recently did the same thing for five films up until 2019. In addition, Warner Bros has pushed back the release date of Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice to March 25th, 2016 from May. Originally, the film was going to go head-to-head Captain America 3.

This six year plan is really about getting as many of DC's iconic characters onto the big screen, while working with Diane Nelson, who worked on the "Harry Potter" franchise. There are currently plans for a Man of Steel sequel, a Justice League film, and a solo Wonder Woman film. In addition, a film based on the Vertigo series SANDMAN, by Neil Gaiman is also in the works.

The kick off to this large wave of DC based films starts March 25th with Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice. Here are the upcoming release dates for the unnamed DC movies:

Aug. 5, 2016: Untitled DC Film

June 23, 2017: Untitled DC Film

Nov. 17, 2017: Untitled DC Film

March 23, 2018: Untitled DC Film

July 27, 2018: Untitled DC Film

April 5, 2019: Untitled DC Film

June 14, 2019: Untitled DC Film

April 3, 2020: Untitled DC Film

June 19, 2020: Untitled DC Film

More info on these films as it develops.

@the_stegman: you clearly don t want to see my point, i give up, everything is fine and awesome with WB dc, lets wait until the end of this month to get some more news on this, like WB executive stated yesterday.

In marvel to get news of this kind they don t come from Disney...Its Kevin Feige who calls the shots.

I am not a idiot respect opinions that are different from yours.

@the_stegman: yes but you are forgetting this is the fans it is getting lots of hate...if you add too many superheroes the normal public lose interest...it may be fanboys however if theese fanboys sway the general public before the movie comes out it will fail...i want it to succeed with all my heart it's just that my brain is saying "no"...gd luck dc marvel is waiting...

I highly, highly doubt that a few hundred whiny internet fans will cause the film to lose money. And right now, DC has the Trinity in this film, I doubt Cyborg will be nothing more than a side character and every other rumored character is...rumored. So I doubt it'll have "too many heroes".

@the_stegman: You are wrong in the comic con 2013 its was stated by Zack Snyder that Batman will appear in Man of Steel sequel.

Batman last movie was in 2012 don t you think its to early to reboot this character They simply don t have faith in other Dc characters because, Dc dosen t have a studio and WB calls all the shots, and they have a lot of properties that are not from DC Comics like Harry Potter, who is money in the bank.

But Dc Fans always give WB a free pass like in this forum that s why its no working like marvel.

It's a sequel due to the fact that it is the same Superman as Man of Steel, but it is also a bridge to Justice League. And no, it's not too soon to reboot the character. You can't have a JL without Batman and Nolan's Batman is its own, independent story.

Now you're opening up another can of worms entirely. DC doesn't have it's own studios? So what? If WB has faith in the DC characters, doesn't matter what studio it belongs too. With nine movies coming out, obviously some will be something other than Bats or Supes, which shows they have enough faith in their properties to take risks like this.

But still marvel can roll out thier unknowns and make a profit GoTG has already made 1/3 of MoS box office grossing...if they want to compete with marvel they need to make bvs work and from all the hate lex Luthor, wonder woman, and batman are getting...

Marvel can pump out hits because they have been in the public eye for a decade now, people will flock to see the films no matter if they're good or bad or who's in them. DC is literally just beginning. Comparing MOS to GOTG isn't really fair, if anything, you should compare it to Iron Man or Incredible Hulk.

This is gonna make me sound mean..but who gives a crap what a bunch of angry internet fanboys think? At the end of the day, those people complaining will still be first in line to see the film. Us internet tough guys have no idea how the business works, we aren't casting directors, we aren't producers we aren't directors, and many "fan castings" are just as bad and often, worse than the actors that are chosen. Affleck has proven to be a great director and a very good actor, Eisenberg is a great actor, I'm iffy about Gadot, but who knows? I was iffy on Hathaway as Catwoman too, but she knocked my socks off.

@thetrauminator: Hate on the internet... The majority of people who are going to go see Dawn of Justice don't even know who Eisenberg and Gadot are, and won't care who they're playing as long as they're good in their roles. Most people don't follow every bit of news about a movie that's two years away.

Even if you've heard of say, Ben Affleck as Batman, I'm pretty sure the general reaction would be that it's just someone other than Christian Bale. Not the guy who starred in a few bad films 10 years ago and is the worst possible choice ever for Batman..

I wouldn't say DC failed with MoS. Yes, a lot of people hated it, but a lot of people loved it too. DC's plan was to see how MoS did, if it did well enough, they would expand their universe, apparently, it did well enough, so that's what they're doing, expanding their universe. And I think that BvS was never supposed to be a MOS sequel, but a set up movie for JL.

@the_stegman: i agree but what's not to say that marvel cant counter whatever dc are gonna bring after all i have a friend who knows nothing about superheroes and thought that superman was from marvel!!!just beacuse of MoS.i am just saying announcing this is dumb and shouldn't say that until batmanvs superman is done ... They are no marvel when it comes to films and their unpopularity doesn't help...what I'm saying is dont say theese things because what if batman vs superman is a flop...bye bye justice league and it's back to superman and batman movies...then fans will b like oh but dc siaid they were gonna do this and that...but if bvs fails all these movies wont exist...btw i like GoTG mor than MoS even though I walked into the cinema thinking the opposite and that this was gonna be marvels first flop in a long time...

The main problem I hear people say about WB is that they have no faith in their properties. aka, they keep doing Supes and Bats movies. Announcing this shows that they have balls. They are working hard to develop their Cinematic universe and think they are in the right, I like it. Yes, A LOT is riding on BvS, if it fails, DC could be doomed, but if it succeeds, then they are in a very comfy spot.

It's not like WB hasn't attempted to do a Justice League, WW, and Shazam movie before. All of those have been in production at some point before MoS even came out.

They're a lot more confident now and Dawn of Justice can seal the deal for them and get everything started.

Biting off more than they can chew.

They should take it slow and do it right, rather than rush out bullsh...........

Quality beats quantity. 'The Dark Knight', 'Flash Point Paradox', And 'Under The Red Hood' proved that.

Heh.. heheheheheheh.

You're pushin it man.

@the_stegman: the worst thing dc/wb could do right now is release a movie about an unknown superhero only marvel can do that

And that's why making a JL movie first is smart for DC/WB. Introduce them, if they are well recieved by audiences, give them solo movies. I'm not saying I know what they're gonna do, but it's the smartest thing to do, and I'm willing to bet that the August 2016 film is JL. And the only reason marvel can make a movie like GOTG is because they now are in the public eye and people will go see their movies regardless, they took a HUGE gamble on Iron Man (who is C list at best to non comic fans) and it paid off big time.

@the_stegman: "About 99% of DC superheroes aren't known to the public, that's why you give them movies"

Why do you give a movie to a unknown Character? What is the point of that, in terms of movie business?

You think there is a audience waiting for a WW movie or a Stargirl movie?

The other Leaguers will to get films if B v S or J L its any Good and regular audiences like the characters introduced there, if Aquaman don t change the perspective, that he is a joke to many regular movie audiences, do you think he will get her own movie?

People didn't care about Iron Man before his movie, people didn't care about Thor or Cap before his. And People sure as heck didn't care about the Guardians of the Galaxy before theirs. I'm not trying to compare the two companies, but if a movie is done right and well, regardless of if the hero is an A list or a D list, it will put them in the public eye and get people to care about them.

And Yes, I think tons of people are wanting a WW movie. She's the most popular superheroine on the planet.

@t_aesir: About 99% of DC superheroes aren't known to the public, that's why you give them movies. Whether you think Gadot or WW can't hold a solo film isn't the point, Wonder Woman now exists, a solo film with her is inevitable. DC is obviously trying to build a shared universe, to say they only will do Batman and Superman movies is ridiculous. Yes, they've been playing it safe before, but they're showing guts now. They've already said Justice League is coming, the other Leaguers are bound to get films.

@the_stegman:

The insult is unnecessary i think i have the right to my own opinion.

You should remember that Batman v Superman was planed to be Man of Steal 2 but WB only trusts Batman to get the Box office after Green Lantern bombed and Man of Steel didn t convinced casual movie going audiences for a sequel, if they have faith in other characters we don t need to wait until 2016 to have another Dc movie.

Maybe a Wonder Woman movie was in plans but after the Gal Gadot the Israeli model cast, it s very risky because, in my opinion she can t carry a movie by herself, as we will see in her appearance in 2016 in B v S.

A Shazam Movie can Happen but he has to appear first in B v S or Justice League because outside of the US no one knows him, Wb Dc isn t yet a brand like Marvel Studios that people will see their movies no matter what the title is.

A flash Movie could Happen but he is now in a tv series and people will not pay to see the same character that they see for free every week.

For that i posted that only Batman and Superman are certain to start in future Dc movies.

I bet they will be not sure about all of them but I'm sure some of those will be:

-MOS stand alone film(or another centered around him mostly)

-Flash film seriously is LONGGG over do! And they better make him super, duper fast like Bart and Barry on TV(smallville and flash) but even faster perhaps!

-WW film or GL sequel or possibly GL reboot film. Hard to say, we know they keep saying not ready for a WW film but obviously people want a better GL film.

-A second Batman/Superman movie

-The JL movie obviously is in there

-Fables

-Justice League Dark movie(which is in the works if you read up on it)

-Probably a Batman film with Ben's Batman

-Event film here

-Event second film here

I too also kind of hope for a none Shazam movie. If they do make it, it has to be by far the least serious lol.

And please, no aquman movie...put him in the JL, even other movies if they must but no stand alone please.

@captainmarvel4ever: Man of Steel and Green Lantern both stuck to the source material about as much as any Marvel movie.

Green Lantern looked like a human glow stick, and the people who made the film admitted they knew very little about GL in the comics.

MOS was (in my opinion) not a Superman movie, nothing about it felt like Superman (especially with all those grey filters Snyder added).

@knightfall225: Go back 5 or 10 years and I would probably agree with you, but now in this day and age that's not enough. Marvel has definitively proven that by sticking to the source material, not only can you have a good movie, but chances are your movie will be better because of that. I don't have faith in this new BvS movie because the last movie was MOS, which sucked and betrayed the source material, Same goes for all of WB's DC movies, just look at Green Lantern, Jonah Hex, and TDKR, all broke source material, and all of them sucked because of it. Noah is a different story, because it's a story that's been told hundreds of times before, plus that's very very different from a comic book.
Snyder has said how he want's to try and re-imagine/fix characters like Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman, characters that A. don't need to be fixed, and B. have existed long before him, and likely long after he stops existing. Also that ultra grey Wonder Woman does not inspire confidence.

I hope I'm wrong and they stick to the source material, but for now I have very low expectations for WB, and high expectations for Marvel Studios. Expectations that I'm sure both studios will meet.

I don't know, alot of people seemed to want this kind of information at SDCC (even though having a bunch of TBD's next to dates that will probably be changed nonetheless probably isn't exactly what people wanted). It winds up looking really reactionary to Marvel and Guardians of the Galaxy.

@captainmarvel4ever: I'm not saying I don't want Comicbook movies to stick to source material. I love when they do. But what I'm saying is just because a movie doesn't stick to the source material does not mean the movie is bad. I hope the new DC/WB movies stick to the source material ( and what I've seen so far from BvsS they are ) . I think a year ago Noah came out and it was based off the story from the bible. The story took a little from the source material but changed up the story a lot. Did that mean the movie was bad , no it was a pretty good movie. Would I have preferred they stick to the bible story ? yes. But did it hurt the film? nope. The Nolan films weren't mean to be a DC cinematic universe. It was just a different take on Batman and his supporting chracters and people who weren't even comicbook fans enjoyed it just as much as any other comicbook film. But to conclude I think Snyder and his team at WB are sticking to the comcis with there new films.

@knightfall225: Marvel has been proving you can have a comic book movie that's actually like a comic. Why should we continue to settle for less when it's been proven you can have good movies without having to sacrifice your expectations? Quite frankly the Nolan movies are about some guy in a bat costume with throat cancer, while the Marvel movies are about Iron Man, Captain America,The Guardians of the Galaxy, etc. If you want the guy in the bat costume have fun, because I'm sticking with Marvel's film, the ones where we actually get to see things like Hulk fight Thor, and see a crowd of people who have never read comics cheer along with me as it happens.

Demand more from your movies.

Just because a movie doesn't stick exactly to the comics , does not mean it isn't a good movie. At the end of the day this is a movie company and they want to make great movies. If that means changing things to the movies , then so be it. These films aren't just made to appeal to Comic book fans They are made for the General audience to enjoy. The comicbook readers makes about 10% of the profit of CBM movies. The Nolan movies were successful because it wasn't your ordinary comic book movie , it brought the character to the REAL world. It might not feel like a comic book movie because all other comic book movies have never tried to portray a character the way Nolan did.I'm not saying all movies should be like this, I really hope the new WB films aren't, but It worked for the Nolan trilogy .

@captainmarvel4ever: yeah I will definitely give Constantine a chance. The producers said the helmet of Dr. fate will be seen as well. I think in the pilot.

You should make a favorite superhero list, or villains list. If you have a chance check mine out!

@riosishere: Yeah but Cap 2 still felt like a comic book movie about Captain America. You should defiantly watch Constantine, that's going to be the show where DC dumps all of it's magic/supernatural characters (Swamp Thing may already be on the way). What kind of list?

I liked the real feel of the Nolan series. Captain America 2 was great but it also just felt like a spy film. I guess I am not familiar with Constantine enough to wanna watch the show but I am going to give it a try and hopefully its good :)

You should make a list!

@riosishere: My favorite Superhero is Captain Marvel. As for the Nolan films they just don't feel like comic book films to me, they feel like crime films that have a guy who calls himself Batman, who is nothing like Batman in the comics (other then dressing like a bat). Constantine is the one show from DC that actually manages to engage and entertain me, all while getting the character right. Something that every other comic book TV show on the air fails to do.

@captainmarvel4ever: I meant WB I just say DC haha. The Nolan Batman films were the best Superhero films I had ever seen. Heath Ledger's role as The Joker was incredible. Not just as a comic book character but as a character in general. I am not really into Constantine. I loved Smallville and Arrow, and I look forward to Gotham. And the Flash looks pretty good as well. Who's your favorite hero?

@riosishere: Actually it's WB that's ruining DC, if DC was in charge of their movies like Marvel is, then things would go better. At any rate I don't like the Nolan movies very much, and other then Constantine I don't like DC's TV shows either.

@captainmarvel4ever: I love both Marvel and Dc. If I would have to choose which characters I like more it would definitely be DC but Marvel is easily my second favorite company and their movies are superb. Even though DC is rushing their films and they will suck, they can never take away the Batman Nolan Trilogy and their TV properties which are really great.
