DC Plans 9 Films Leading Up to 2020

While the titles are not revealed, DC has set opening dates for their upcoming films

No Caption Provided

According to Variety, Warner Bros. announced dates for 9 upcoming films based on DC Entertainment comic characters and properties from 2016-2020.. Marvel Studios recently did the same thing for five films up until 2019. In addition, Warner Bros has pushed back the release date of Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice to March 25th, 2016 from May. Originally, the film was going to go head-to-head Captain America 3.

This six year plan is really about getting as many of DC's iconic characters onto the big screen, while working with Diane Nelson, who worked on the "Harry Potter" franchise. There are currently plans for a Man of Steel sequel, a Justice League film, and a solo Wonder Woman film. In addition, a film based on the Vertigo series SANDMAN, by Neil Gaiman is also in the works.

The kick off to this large wave of DC based films starts March 25th with Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice. Here are the upcoming release dates for the unnamed DC movies:

Aug. 5, 2016: Untitled DC Film

June 23, 2017: Untitled DC Film

Nov. 17, 2017: Untitled DC Film

March 23, 2018: Untitled DC Film

July 27, 2018: Untitled DC Film

April 5, 2019: Untitled DC Film

June 14, 2019: Untitled DC Film

April 3, 2020: Untitled DC Film

June 19, 2020: Untitled DC Film

More info on these films as it develops.

What I find very annoying that there are fanboys/fangirls who want WB/DC to fail which is strange since WB/DC gave us the first superhero movies, the one that changed the movie industry as a whole (The Dark Knight forced The Academy to change its rules for the next year.) I've seen bunch of comments like "Oh WB/DC can't do that..." "Or they'll never be Marvel." Well guess what DC/WB are not Marvel, they've been making superhero movies since 1978 and yes they have hits and misses but everybody does. And of course they shouldn't have the same look as Marvel in the first place (they did once in 1978/1989 and again in 2011 which didn't work.) And pretty sure that people didn't like Man of Steel because it did a lot of things that a Marvel movie wouldn't attempt to (Marvel seems to kills its bad guys and never has any empathy for them or jokes afterwards or seems embarrassed that they had a alien invasion.)

I look forward to see what DC/WB does next because unlike Marvel or the other studios, it isn't predictable as we might think.

Thank you. They forgot where they came from. Dc paved the way for Marvel, with comic books and movies.

@zaied: Ok... This is just my personal opinion nothing more.

You take you fanboyism to a level where you always give WB/DC a free pass, and maybe that is one of the reasons why they are so behind Marvel Studios...

DC moving the date is a disaster for them. They basically admitted defeat and its going to significantly affect their numbers. I can't and WON'T go to watch a movie at the end of March when my term papers are about to start. Same goes for most other college students which is a big market for them. Batman v Superman is not going to make the money it would have even when colliding with Captain America now.

@emad_ishtiaque: That's a good point. Most comic fans are young adults, and the people who get the word about these films spread are the fans, so they are going to take a huge loss.

LOL don't be ridiculous, it's opening on a Friday, there will be no problems. Stop being overly dramatic

Most students have final exams and papers in May as well but they have no problems seeing movies (me included)

Haha admitted defeat, you're a funny one. If anything this is the best possible move for them and it maximizes the money they make because now Cap3 and other summer movies won't be cutting into their profits.

Pretty sure Sandman won't be part of the main DCCU. Justice League Dark also appeared to be separate while it was in production.

Still, this will be interesting when they announce titles.

Shame they blinked and moved to March.

I didn't know University students have papers in May....They are in weeks 1-3 of April for all the Universities I know about. I am glad IF it doesn't affect them. I really want them to do good so they have high budgets in the other movies and go into their "phase 2" with confidence.

In other news, DC pushes back Batman vs Superman : Dawn of Justice to avoid competition from Captain America 3. When asked what he thought when it came to winning the battle of the release date. Steve Rogers only had this to say....

Final papers, I've had them all the time in May. Students have work all semester and finals is usually the one I study the most in and for me (and most universities) they are in May. Besides, Cap 2 opened up on April 4th which is only 2 weeks after BVS is supposed to come out, yet that movie was very successful.

I think you are just a hater trying to find any ridiculous reason to bash the movie

I really hope Justice League is 2016 then do a bunch of team ups the only origin movie that should be done is Wonder Woman. The Justice Leaguers don't need an origin movie most people know enough about them except for Shazam and Cyborg.

What I find frustrating about DC is their constant inconsistency. It will very confusing for non comic book fans to understand why the Dark Knight material isn't being used. Anyway, this can either go very right... or so wrong. Green Lantern destroyed the franchise back in 2011... I hope they learned from their mistakes.

That and I hope they do not always go for the dark and morbid Christopher Nolan tone. That didn't work so well in Man of Steel as it did with Batman. God forbid a DC movie is any fun for anyone.

this could go really well for certain characters

Wonder Woman should be easy if they try. Gal is loved by the middle east and the teens and twenty somethings from the Fast and Furious movies. WW is loved by comic fans and women. They just need to competent. Gal really doesn't star in movies but that hasn't stopped any other superhero movie. She will be fine, too much working for her to really fail when it comes to the money. Making a great movie they need tho.

If GL and Flash are getting movies or a team-up I would LOVE to have it or individually cop based. Rise of the Planet of the Apes is one of the best jail movies I ever seen and GL First Flight did it pretty good and Barry is a cop.

would love for a Black Adam movie before Shazam. Set up BA as a hero turned villain in the best way possible. An superhero movie set in ancient Egypt then at the end show the turn so Shazam, which could have zero fanfare, is anticipated for a hero turned villain battle not seen in any other superhero movie. Almost never seen in movies at all.

Actually setting up an ancient Black Adam could make room for a lot of movies. You could have Dr. Fate as Nabu would be in the Shazam: Black Adam movie. You can make present day Fate movie. His helmet can be the last resort of Zatara. Used and lost to Helmet. His daughter is established and now you have a Zatanna movie or better yet put her on another team like the Outsiders after the JL movie(motley crew superhero team). People well remember her from the Dr. Fate movie. Having her father lost to Fate(such a cool saying) will make her beloved by the masses already beloved by comic fans. Who they make stand out from the Outsiders, say Nightwing, could get his own movie. That could set up Batman & Nightwing or Dynamic Duo, this Batman being older could have had an Robin now his own man come back to help with a major threat to Gotham.

Black Adam in ancient times could set up the Universe.

here come Marvel Fanboys trying to bring the fun down.WB moved because it was the smartest thing to do for them. going head to head with Cap 3 would have been financial suicide for both sides. Now BvsS will make a billion instead of settling for less.

My thoughts exactly, but so far I've only seen one person gloat about Cap 3 winning the release date battle. Everyone for the most part seems to be excited.

except this was the worst position they could have moved the movie, they went from one of the best weekends for a movie release, to one of the worst. historically March is only outdone in poor sales by Jan/Feb and Aug/Oct.

the best sales March has ever produced is not only 3 times more than second best, but outdone by all 10 of the top selling movies released in any of the "prime Months" months like the one they are leaving.

I thought Bat/Supes could have held their own against Cap3, could have even beat it... but now I think they have sealed their fate, and assured themselves to be horribly beaten at the box office.

Of course this had to become a fanboy war between the 2 companies. It's almost like Playstation vs Xbox at this point.

With that said, I would love to see a well done Wonder Woman, Aquaman and Green Lantern film.

Damn they are determined to have a ton of movies out by 2020. Well I'm looking forward to Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. I know one of them has to be Justice League. I hope we get a Green Lantern Movie, a Flash movie, or maybe a movie with both characters. I want to see a good Superman franchise, a Batman/Superman franchise, a Trinity movie. Point is, I want to see some of my favorite DC Characters have good Live-Action movies & maybe team up with their buddy for a good movie. Just one would be fine is that too much to ask? I would be SUPER happy to see at least one Batman/Superman movie, One Trinity Movie, one Flash/Green Lantern, Green Lantern/Green Arrow, one Justice League or maybe I know I'm kind of pushing it here with these moives: a movie that has Green Lantern/The Flash/Green Arrow together Superman/Wonder Woman, Batman/Wonder Woman & maybe as a Batman & Robin movie that could be a prequel to Batman v Superman.

I know there is a lot of movies centered around the Trinity but if at least one of those movies is made I would be happy.

@husk: I didn't realize Comic Vine had so many box office analysts. Maybe they should be consulting you with all their plans. I mean, it's not like Warner Brothers is a billion dollar company. I'm sure they would like to know that the film they are producing with the most popular comic character is going to bomb because it's now coming out in March.

May I ask, what production studio you work for?

May I ask, what production studio you work for?

really? seriously? this kind of information can be gleaned from the local paper in the film and entertainment section, they go over the common knowledge of which months have higher and lower average earning potential, heck you can find a huge article about 'dump months' (as the worst months are typically called) on Wikipedia, as I stated the article lists Jan-Feb, and Aug-Oct. (I limited to Sept-Oct based on recent data that has the top ten earners in August as higher than certain other months.)

never said March was a dump month, simply that it was one of the worst. never said Bat/Supes was going to Bomb (certainly far from it) just that it will be destroyed now, in box office reciepts by Cap3.

March is much better than a lot of months

(Jan, Feb, April, August, Sept, Oct)

But it fails to contend with May, June, July, Nov, Dec so far there has only been ten movies in March that did well enough to be Box- Office Hits only two of those breaking 100mil (The Hunger Games, Alice and Wonderland) every thing else did below 80mill most of them barely make 50mil, May however (the month its leaving) has over 13 that went over 100mill, and over 30 box office hits

this is basic information thats availible to a child with just a click of the button (internet) or by opening a newspaper

so sure, Bat/Supes will do well, just no where NEAR as well Cap3 by mere fact of being in different months. (at least they didn't do like Marvel and put Cap2 in April (which only had one movie over 80 mill at the time.)
