DC Comics Announces the "Second Wave" of "The New 52"

Six new titles in and six titles are out.

This is a day we all had a feeling was coming. DC Comics is ready to announce six new titles coming to the "New 52." It's a day of excitement as we prepare for more new great titles. The unfortunate bit is these six new titles will be replacing six existing titles. It looks like DC is planning on keeping the number of ongoing titles at 52, something I've mentioned several times (once they have more than 52 ongoing titles it would be weird to still call it "The New 52").

No Caption Provided

Posted on DC's The Source, here is the "Second Wave" of new titles coming this May.

* BATMAN INCORPORATED - Writer: Grant Morrison. Artist: Chris Burnham. The acclaimed ongoing writer of ACTION COMICS, Grant Morrison, presents a fresh take on BATMAN INCORPORATED, in which the Batman brand is franchised globally in preparation for a major international threat.

* EARTH 2 - Writer: James Robinson. Artist: Nicola Scott. The greatest heroes on a parallel Earth, the Justice Society combats threats that will set them on a collision course with other worlds.

* WORLDS' FINEST - Writer: Paul Levitz. Artists: George Perez and Kevin Maguire. Stranded on our world from a parallel reality, Huntress and Power Girl struggle to find their way back to Earth 2. Perez and Maguire will be the artists on alternating story arcs.

* DIAL H - Writer: China Miéville. Artist: Mateus Santoluoco. The first ongoing series from acclaimed novelist China Miéville, this is a bold new take on a cult classic concept about the psychological effects on an everyman who accidentally gains powers to become a hero.

* G.I. COMBAT - Writer: J.T. Krul. Artist: Ariel Olivetti. Featuring the return of a classic DC Comics series, THE WAR THAT TIME FORGOT, along with rotating back-up stories and creative teams - including THE UNKNOWN SOLDIER, with writers Justin Gray and Jimmy Palmiotti and artist Dan Panosian; and THE HAUNTED TANK, with writer John Arcudi and artist Scott Kolins.

* THE RAVAGERS - Writer: Howard Mackie. Artist: Ian Churchill. Spinning off from TEEN TITANS and SUPERBOY, this series finds four superpowered teens on the run and fighting against the organization that wants to turn them into supervillains.

== TEASER ==

You have to admit those sound pretty cool. Now the bad news, Which titles will be reaching their conclusion in April with their eighth issues? BLACKHAWKS, HAWK AND DOVE, MEN OF WAR, MISTER TERRIFIC, O.M.A.C. and STATIC SHOCK will be the titles getting replaced. It's unfortunate but many of us have seen this coming.

This doesn't mean it's the end for the characters appearing in those books. This is what Bob Harras, DC Entertainment Editor-in-Chief had to say:

The excitement of the initial launch of DC COMICS-THE NEW 52 was in seeing the re-imagining of these classic characters and concepts. The 'Second Wave' is all about world-building. Many of the characters from our canceled books will appear in DC COMICS-THE NEW 52 titles, and in some very surprising ways. We're developing stories that reach from cultures around the globe to parallel worlds. We're just getting started.

The DC Universe is heating up.

No titles I read are getting canceled and Batman Inc. was the only one that interested me, and I already knew that one was coming. Still, glad they are trying new series somewhat regularly.

I'm so depressed that blackhawks is going away, I loved the premise so much. However I'm glad to see Power Girl and the JSA coming back.

I wanted Shazam! tho, that I would've bought in a heartbeat

They should have keep Static in Dakota. Taking out of his little world just messed up the book. As for the rest, I did not pick them up. I will be glad to see Hawk & Dove go away.

I am only lossing one title, but I am gaining more:

Batman Incorparted, Earth 2, and World's Finest. I will wait and see what G.I. Cobat and Ravangers looks like when the come out.

I'm in for Earth 2, World's Finest (more for Huntress than Power Girl), Batman Inc, and Ravagers. I had really high hopes for Hawk and Dove in the beginning, as well as Static, but i knew Hawk and Dove was going to be in trouble when the best they could come up with for first villains was Condor and Swan, I dropped that title after issue 3 along with Static

Power Girl is finally coming!!!!!!

I didn't want to believe it, but deep down, I knew Static Shock was ending. It just wasn't the same. But they're also cancelling BlackHawks?! Blasphemy. BlackHawks was a hit in disguise.

Somebody had to say it and I'm with you, unfortunately DC didn't put the talent behind the books that they needed to succeed, I'm sad to see both of these great charecters loose their books

Honestly..i think we all saw this coming, none of these dropped titles were on my pull list...because to be honest, none are very good.

Anyway, i'm definitely getting Batman Inc, Although i hate the idea of Earth 2 (and the multiverse in general) i'll pick both Earth 2 up (for the JSA) and World's Finest because...let's face it, Helena and Kara are without a doubt fine ;)

and maybe Ravagers...i dunno

Wish there was already some preview art, sketches or what not. But this is still so exciting. I am real excited about these titles here:

I love the idea of Earth 2, sounds so fun. I love Kevin Maguire's art and George Perez's art so I am so excited for that. And Dial H could be fun. But I am surprised that SHAZAM isn't one of them because they are doing him as a back up in JLA, their main title. Still, maybe they will eventually.

Too bad about the canceled titles. I never got those comics though. Was tempted to get OMAC and Hawk and Dove but so many comics and so little money. I wonder if the DCU will ever seem like it used to, where it was one big universe and everyone seemed to know each other.

I'm really not bothered by any of the cancelled titles because I felt that some were just terrible: OMAC and Hawk & Dove mainly. As for the others, I just wasn't interested in war stories like Men of War, or I found the characters of Mister Terrific and Static Shock to be uninteresting.

Oh well, at least the new ones look exciting. I am especially pumped to read Robinson's new work because I am just enjoying the hell outta The Shade each month!

Ooh, nice! Most of these new titles look pretty cool!

And I'm pretty glad they cancelled OMAC….

The one thing I don't understand with this is why they're canceling one war book to add a new one that looks pretty darn similar.

What solicits will those go under??? Also when are they going to stop putting "The New 52!" on all of their comics??? Its kind of getting annoying hearing about it considering it happened 5 months ago! None of the titles canceled I was even reading so not a disappointment. None of the new titles sound that great either.

Batman Inc. UUUUUUUGGGH, Why wont they let that concept die?
Earth 2: Fine with it.
Worlds Finest: No I Don't want to go back to Helena Wayne and Power Girl better not be Kryptonian
Dial H: eh never been into it
G.I. COMBAT: Not interest at all BB will like it though because of the Unknown Soldier
The Ravagers: hmm we already have two and both are Deathstroke's kids. I'll hold my opinion until I know more.

Blackhawks: Was an ok book but I'm fine with it getting canceled.
Hawk and Dove: Should be canceled. I never liked them
Men of War: Could have been good but they F'ed it up.
Mr Terrific: I'm ok with it being canceled. Wasn't interested in the character but the concept was good even if the writing sucked.
O.M.A.C. YES YES  Thank you so much. EYE am happy it will be canceled.
Static: Great character but the book was just plane bad. They dropped the ball on such a great character.

HELL YEAH, POWER GIRL AND THE JSA ARE COMING BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! =D

As for the cancelled titles, I could care less about them ending, they were mostly bad (ESPECIALLY Mr. Terrific), the only one out of them I mildly liked was O.M.A.C. =/

In DC's defense, Static had writer issues and that is not good when the original writer of the newly launched series wants to leave and it is announced after the release of the first issue.  Mr. Terrific also was not strong enough to capture fans. Cyborg I feel could of carried his own book, since his Teen Titans connection makes him more known, but Geoff Johns has him.

It would be nice if the "ethic" characters did better, but maybe it is the current state of comics?  My racial background is never represented in comics and I guess I am use to it, but I can understand how this would suck.  DC didn't even give Mr. Terrific a second arc, what you feel is what I feel when Vertigo axes a series too early.

Hopefully one day the industry changes and books that are needed don't get axed too young, since the foresight is not there why they should survive.  I know it is business, but what would the world look like if Alan Moore's Swamp Thing back in the 80s continued bad sales?  Fact is, Neil Gaiman wouldn't have Sandman and Grant Morrison might be good, but not as awesome.  Sometimes books not everyone readers can influence the medium in directions it is lacking.

But that is why two cents.  This is why I am planning on studying comic writing, so I can practice what I preach.
Cheers

Despite the fact that I was about to drop Static (even though I really like his character and personality) I'll stick in their now knowing it is only 3 issues left. And I'll probably replace it with Batgirl or Batwoman, on my pull. And don't worry my fellow Static fans he will most likely go to Teen Titans, which is a good thing (enless you hate the book with a passion).

@EdgerJoker: Cosign. It's annoying. Even if Mr Terrific or Static Shock had a solid writer and artist, I still feel like those would be low sellers. Look at Black Panther. His recent series was leagues better than Static and Mr Terrific and it still got canceled due to low sales. I guess they'll keep filling the "diversity" quota for team books and call it a day smh.

Come on, books are needed because they are good. The only reason not to cancel a book would be that the editor believes in it so much he thinks that it could bounce back or/and get better sales once in collected. Those six books really were not that good and I doubt anybody saw the next Swamp Thing/Sandman in them.

HarrasRavagers  will be a bunch of different characters. You'll see development of characters from SuperboyTeen Titans  and little bit of Legion Lost  in the spring. So I think you're going to be surprised by what comes out in that book, and the characters that will be in that title. And who and what they are.

Found that.

@The Mighty Monarch: Yeah I`m really excited that JL series will feature Shazam, I am following the JL series and loving it but I`m just wishing Shazam will have his own series.

@jsphsmth: I hope your right and that after Shazam appears in the Justice League they go on to give him his own series.

@buttersdaman000: According to every source I have read Billy Batson will be introduced in a the back story for Justice League #7

Those six titles I'm definitely not surprised are going. Sad about Men of War and Blackhawks, and in their place G. I. Combat comes to the forefront...interesting. Same story essentially..change of title. As for what I'm getting..that's easy. Earth 2 and World's finest! :)

One Thing I do not get is DC's choice in the new series, except for the first 2-3 (because no series should have the right to call itself that if it does not actually deliver the one and only World's Finest and not their super-daughters), especially when still have so many good unused great characters.
