DC Comics Announces the "Second Wave" of "The New 52"

Six new titles in and six titles are out.

This is a day we all had a feeling was coming. DC Comics is ready to announce six new titles coming to the "New 52." It's a day of excitement as we prepare for more new great titles. The unfortunate bit is these six new titles will be replacing six existing titles. It looks like DC is planning on keeping the number of ongoing titles at 52, something I've mentioned several times (once they have more than 52 ongoing titles it would be weird to still call it "The New 52").

No Caption Provided

Posted on DC's The Source, here is the "Second Wave" of new titles coming this May.

* BATMAN INCORPORATED - Writer: Grant Morrison. Artist: Chris Burnham. The acclaimed ongoing writer of ACTION COMICS, Grant Morrison, presents a fresh take on BATMAN INCORPORATED, in which the Batman brand is franchised globally in preparation for a major international threat.

* EARTH 2 - Writer: James Robinson. Artist: Nicola Scott. The greatest heroes on a parallel Earth, the Justice Society combats threats that will set them on a collision course with other worlds.

* WORLDS' FINEST - Writer: Paul Levitz. Artists: George Perez and Kevin Maguire. Stranded on our world from a parallel reality, Huntress and Power Girl struggle to find their way back to Earth 2. Perez and Maguire will be the artists on alternating story arcs.

* DIAL H - Writer: China Miéville. Artist: Mateus Santoluoco. The first ongoing series from acclaimed novelist China Miéville, this is a bold new take on a cult classic concept about the psychological effects on an everyman who accidentally gains powers to become a hero.

* G.I. COMBAT - Writer: J.T. Krul. Artist: Ariel Olivetti. Featuring the return of a classic DC Comics series, THE WAR THAT TIME FORGOT, along with rotating back-up stories and creative teams - including THE UNKNOWN SOLDIER, with writers Justin Gray and Jimmy Palmiotti and artist Dan Panosian; and THE HAUNTED TANK, with writer John Arcudi and artist Scott Kolins.

* THE RAVAGERS - Writer: Howard Mackie. Artist: Ian Churchill. Spinning off from TEEN TITANS and SUPERBOY, this series finds four superpowered teens on the run and fighting against the organization that wants to turn them into supervillains.

== TEASER ==

You have to admit those sound pretty cool. Now the bad news, Which titles will be reaching their conclusion in April with their eighth issues? BLACKHAWKS, HAWK AND DOVE, MEN OF WAR, MISTER TERRIFIC, O.M.A.C. and STATIC SHOCK will be the titles getting replaced. It's unfortunate but many of us have seen this coming.

This doesn't mean it's the end for the characters appearing in those books. This is what Bob Harras, DC Entertainment Editor-in-Chief had to say:

The excitement of the initial launch of DC COMICS-THE NEW 52 was in seeing the re-imagining of these classic characters and concepts. The 'Second Wave' is all about world-building. Many of the characters from our canceled books will appear in DC COMICS-THE NEW 52 titles, and in some very surprising ways. We're developing stories that reach from cultures around the globe to parallel worlds. We're just getting started.

The DC Universe is heating up.

@ReVamp: Poor marketing. Should have held off the announcement for a couple of months. Or they could reveal more info about it such as showing us Alan Scott and Ted Grant.

Not as excited for this second wave as everyone else?

Not as much as I was previously. Earth-2 is still interesting though...

Yeah, I get what you mean. For me, the extremely long wait has kinda just killed the excitement and interest.

The Ravagers. Nice title but do we really need another spin-off from Teet Titans and Superboy?
Why not replacing the 2 with The Ravagers? That would make (more) sense.

Same goes for Batman Inc.. Is this supposed to be an ongoing or just limited series?

they should get rid of Superboy and keep Ravagers and Teen Titans. If they combined them all that would be too many superheroes in one book

man wouldnt it be cool if they had a continuity for all the alternate earths and labled them in the corner cover of each issue, then we could know what was going on in seperate earths, it'd be tricky but I think it would work. I'm really looking forward to earth two stuff :D

hmm well i have a tight budget with comics i like to start new titles but also cancel for one.

so how about:

earth-2 for JLI

and worlds finest for action comics.

that seems about right for me. i wanna cancel JLA but i wanna check out the shazam mini in it! he should have his own series! aha

Honestly only interested in Batman Inc so far :P

World's Finest could be fun too. (though I'm not a big fan of the Earth 2 concept behind back....)

And Dial H for Hero could be neat!

Lol at cancelling titles not even 6 months after you rebooted your entire universe.

6 titles that didn't do so good (I was following some of them, but with the exception of OMAC and Blackhawks, I was thinking about dropping most of these anyway), in exchange for 6 new titles, out of which one is almost guaranteed to be a huge hit (the return of Batman Inc. - Batman and Grant Morrison, need I say more), one a potential sleeper hit (Dial H, seeing as China Miéville is a highly respected sci-fi and fantasy writer), and two highly requested fan-favorites (the return of the Justice Society and Powergirl)

This way, they can continue giving other characters, teams, and concepts a chance, without flooding the market like a certain other comic publisher does

Good news for Power Girl fans!

So they're dropping Men of War and adding GI Combat? Seems a little odd, why not just change the existing book?

Is another Batman title what they need? Batman has to be closing in on a fifth of their whole production!

Actually, it is not that weird once you realize what their content is

Men of War was about ordinary soldiers, G.I. Combat is supposed to contain the "The War that Time Forgot" segment, which originally featured WW2 soldiers, WW1 pilots, cowboys, gladiators, Native-Americans, vikings, robots, and Victorian adventurers fighting against dinosaurs, "The Haunted Tank" which was about a WW2 tank possessed by the ghost of a Southern Civil War General, and the Unknown Soldier, which is probably the only down to earth concept featured in this book

To be honest, I'm more shocked by them going with such a bland title as G.I. Combat

Of course, we have yet to see how they re-imagine these concepts, but judging from the past, these are some pretty over-the-top concepts compared to the more down-to-earth Men of War

If DC wanted to diversify comics, then the titles staring non-white heroes should have really gotten stronger creative teams who know how to handle the characters. But seriously cancel batman: the dark knight, make detective comics more like action comics, and give captain marvel a self-title.

I like this idea. How is Captain Marvels Mini-series going?

Lady BlackHawk will all probably end up in BoP.

Hawk and Dove will most likely go to the JLI although they seem to deal with alot of supernatural stuff so maybe JLD but that seems like a long shot.

Static will most likely end up in TT or the new Ravagers comic.

Mr Terrific will most definitely end up in JSA (maybe following Karen Starr back to Earth-2)

OMAC i could see just disappearing. they should have stuck with the OMACS that batman created that involved the Eye.

Men of War i know nothing about but i could see them becoming involved with N.O.W.H.E.R.E. or becoming someone like Lex Luthors own private army

The problem is it's not that I'm hating Batman as Batman is one of my fave Superheroes. The problem is DC find it that they have to pad out the new 52 with Batman comics when they have so many more characters they could use besides Batman. Or do some different things with other characters such as Superman or even Wonder Woman if they are wanting to boost sales with those two and popularity besides beating a dead horse with just using Batman all the time.

I hope Dial H is just mini-series. I remember H.E.R.O. At first it was interesting, but they could finish the story much earlier than #22.
I have a feeling that G.I. Combat will face the fate of Men of War.
I'm glad that we can finally see Power Girl in action, instead of Mr. Terrific's supporting character.
Don't know what to expect of Ravagers until I see the team.
Looking forward to see Earth 2 and Batman Inc.

I would cancel much more than 6 titles and replace them ... in fact the huge majority of the new 52s is pretty weak (regardless of sales figures, but in terms of story and artwork).

At least this is new hope, especially Earth 2, World's Finest and Dial H could be interesting ... even Ravagers and Batman Inc. (though I see no need for another Batman title - since the charcter gets totally overused and diffuse. I mean we see 10 different Batman's ... in almost every book he's totally different. That's totally inacceptable!)

GI Combat is a stillborn book, in my opinion.

Excited for Batman Inc, Earth 2, and The Ravagers. Sucks about Hawk and Dove and Static Shock. I wish World's Finest was more about random team ups between the Superman and Batman characters. I knew O.M.A.C. and Men of War were gonna be cancelled though.

I don't see the problem,Batman has kept 4 titles to himself since the 80's.INC is a limited series,or atleast Morrison's tenure will be limited.

Batman Inc: Finish the story, because I have heard promises of an epic finale.

Earth 2: Heard awesome things about Robinson on JSA

Dial H: Like the premise and everyone seems gaga over the writer

I expect Static to move to the Teen Titans book but I dropped both that books, so...yeah. Hopefully we get the awesome 65-year-old one in Justice League Beyond. Also I'm not surprised those titles got cancelled, a combination of genres and writers there.

Also some people were complaining about Batman: Dark Knight not being cancelled. David Finch is on an exclusive contract with DC, so he has to have his book being published and apparently people are buying it. Probably because of the movie and Batman being involved in the tile. Batman sells.
