DC Comics Announces the "Second Wave" of "The New 52"

Six new titles in and six titles are out.

This is a day we all had a feeling was coming. DC Comics is ready to announce six new titles coming to the "New 52." It's a day of excitement as we prepare for more new great titles. The unfortunate bit is these six new titles will be replacing six existing titles. It looks like DC is planning on keeping the number of ongoing titles at 52, something I've mentioned several times (once they have more than 52 ongoing titles it would be weird to still call it "The New 52").

No Caption Provided

Posted on DC's The Source, here is the "Second Wave" of new titles coming this May.

* BATMAN INCORPORATED - Writer: Grant Morrison. Artist: Chris Burnham. The acclaimed ongoing writer of ACTION COMICS, Grant Morrison, presents a fresh take on BATMAN INCORPORATED, in which the Batman brand is franchised globally in preparation for a major international threat.

* EARTH 2 - Writer: James Robinson. Artist: Nicola Scott. The greatest heroes on a parallel Earth, the Justice Society combats threats that will set them on a collision course with other worlds.

* WORLDS' FINEST - Writer: Paul Levitz. Artists: George Perez and Kevin Maguire. Stranded on our world from a parallel reality, Huntress and Power Girl struggle to find their way back to Earth 2. Perez and Maguire will be the artists on alternating story arcs.

* DIAL H - Writer: China Miéville. Artist: Mateus Santoluoco. The first ongoing series from acclaimed novelist China Miéville, this is a bold new take on a cult classic concept about the psychological effects on an everyman who accidentally gains powers to become a hero.

* G.I. COMBAT - Writer: J.T. Krul. Artist: Ariel Olivetti. Featuring the return of a classic DC Comics series, THE WAR THAT TIME FORGOT, along with rotating back-up stories and creative teams - including THE UNKNOWN SOLDIER, with writers Justin Gray and Jimmy Palmiotti and artist Dan Panosian; and THE HAUNTED TANK, with writer John Arcudi and artist Scott Kolins.

* THE RAVAGERS - Writer: Howard Mackie. Artist: Ian Churchill. Spinning off from TEEN TITANS and SUPERBOY, this series finds four superpowered teens on the run and fighting against the organization that wants to turn them into supervillains.

== TEASER ==

You have to admit those sound pretty cool. Now the bad news, Which titles will be reaching their conclusion in April with their eighth issues? BLACKHAWKS, HAWK AND DOVE, MEN OF WAR, MISTER TERRIFIC, O.M.A.C. and STATIC SHOCK will be the titles getting replaced. It's unfortunate but many of us have seen this coming.

This doesn't mean it's the end for the characters appearing in those books. This is what Bob Harras, DC Entertainment Editor-in-Chief had to say:

The excitement of the initial launch of DC COMICS-THE NEW 52 was in seeing the re-imagining of these classic characters and concepts. The 'Second Wave' is all about world-building. Many of the characters from our canceled books will appear in DC COMICS-THE NEW 52 titles, and in some very surprising ways. We're developing stories that reach from cultures around the globe to parallel worlds. We're just getting started.

The DC Universe is heating up.

As much as I love the idea of adding more to the DCnU, I am not a fan of them cancelling the titles to add more. I hope that these add a true new depth and feel to the DC lineup.

China Miéville is one of my favourite authors ever and furthermore, he is the flagship writer of the New Weird movement.

On the other hand, I'm almost crying because of O.M.A.C.s cancellation. It was so much fun... And Blackhawks started to get really interesting too. Why can't they keep previous titles anyway?

Good news for Power Girl fans!

So they're dropping Men of War and adding GI Combat? Seems a little odd, why not just change the existing book?

Is another Batman title what they need? Batman has to be closing in on a fifth of their whole production!

Totally called Hawk and Dove getting cancelled. Batman Inc. will be awesome. They should have had it in the New 52 from the get go.

Two good news for me in this news, the return of the queen powergirl. Some good moment and laugh in the futur witht this.

And the end of Static Shock which was very bad in my opinion.

Only bad news is OMAC, the main reason must be that this title is really slow, in 5 issue we still know nothing about the plot or the different characters.

@Adnan: Lobdell isn't writing RAVAGERS. Mackie is. I'm totally digging TEEN TITANS but not so sure about this one. They'll have to sell me. Then again, if Rose Wilson is in the book...

@Roldan: These are all ongoing. They're replacing the six getting canceled. The miniseries that have come out don't sport the New 52 logo.

only new titles that appeals to me is earth 2 (love the whole heroes that our heroes looked up to concept)

world's finest (a female spin on the old batman and superman team-up) and dial h (hope it still has the different power/hero concept)

only title I'm sad to see go : static , everything else bored me or just completely sucked

Where is Red Robin? Stop letting Lodbell screw him up in Teen Titans and give Fabian or someone else with talent the series!

Okay, enough fanboy. Sad to see Men of War go. Kinda had hopes for Static too. I'm glad to see Batman Incorporated making a return. I thought that was one of the more exciting innovations in the Bat-verse. Other than that, all the new series seem like they are coming out of left field. Who was asking for more stories about the Haunted Tank? Really?

I would be surprise if Hawk and Dove wouldn't be cancelled,I didn't read the other titles but most of people also say they are bad.

Even if there's a new Batman title,it's good to see Morrison writing him again. Also good too see is the return of Earth 2 and Power Girl. And I agree that Ravagers sound exactly like the current run on Teen Titans,I expected something more original.

I was getting Blackhawks and was enjoying. I'm sad to see all of these titles go, but I'm super happy to have all of these new titles coming. I'm going to try them all because they are just six. Not 52 new series.

Dial H certainly does not sound like it should be a mainline DC book. Way more like a Vertigo title. But you could still say that about Animal Man and Swamp Thing. It's more like Vertigo is books with less press. I've read some great China Miville. I've also read Iron Council, which is one the worst pieces of garbage I've seen in years. The man does always have amazing ideas, so given the constraints of comics, maybe he won't sprawl as much as he is prone to.

When does the actual drop happen?  DC is still showing a few of these being released in the coming months.  Are they dropped right away or do story arcs get to be finished?

Even though I got them for the sake of completion, I have never read a single issue of Static Shock or Mister Terrific. I'm sad to see Hawk And Dove get the boot, but I definitely won't miss Liefeld's art. I'm on the fence about O.M.A.C. Kirby's original has always been near and dear to my heart and I'm always glad to have something around and with Giffen on art...but, I wasn't crazy about this take (or the previous one). All that alliteration was getting on my last nerve. Blackhawks and Men Of War were just >meh< to me.

I'm not surprised there's another Batman title. If it's more like Teen Titans Spotlight and showcases the different members, that could be good...otherwise, it should have replaced Batwing. Earth 2 and World's Finest are making me drool like the fanboy I used to be in the good ol' days. Dial H (another near and dear fav) is definitely touch and go. G.I. Combat...another war comic that I'll get, but won't really care about (unless they do something with G.I. Robot). The Ravagers...>meh< >yawn<...we'll see...

World's Finest does sound interesting. And I will read Earth 2, but why not just call it Justice Society? But a return of Wildcat sounds pretty sweet. Enjoyed the first few issues of Blackhawks, but it started to turn into a knock off of GI Joe and not at all what the Blackhawks stood for, and the only person I knew reading Static dropped it after 2 issues.

Ugh. OMAC was fun and Men of War was fantastic. And Blackhawks was damn good too.

I'm bummed to see Static go only because I was hoping we'd have time to see a better writer come on.

Mister Terrific and Hawk and Dove sadly deserve the boot, so Im happy to see them go.

But seriously? Ravagers? "Four teen heroes on the run from an organization that wants to turn them into villains?" With Teen Titans, isn't that just stupidly redundant? I mean, it could be good, but still....

And G.I. Combat sounds 90% like Men of War with a different title. Why couldn't we just keep Men of War?

Of course the continuation of Batman Inc. will be good, Dial H sounds like it has potential, and Earth 2 should be a fan pleaser especially with Robinson and Scott.

World's Finest sounds kind of.... eh.

Ravengers? Why does the description of this team sound SO much like Gen 13? I wonder if this is another attempt to bring WildStorm into the DCnU. If so, I am interesed how they play this off. More interested if it shows existing characters with new twists or new characters not in cookie cutter fashion.

@entropy_aegis: The description of G.I. Combat is vague to me. What's The War That Time Forgot? How is it supposed to grab my attention, it doesn't really tell me squat unlike the other new series' descriptions. Plus G.I. Combat sounds cheesy, makes me think of G.I. Joe, which isn't necessarily terrible, but implies it won't be as deep and serious as Men of War was. Plus Men of War had the best damn covers.
I was invested in Men of War, with G.I. Combat ALL I have to go on is the name, which doesn't inspire much confidence imo.

The only one I'm saddened by is Static Shock, but by all accounts is wasn't very good, so I can't say I'm surprised.

I guess the JSA book is going to be an ongoing. It and Batman Inc. are what I'm most excited for, I think.

They should have replaced Batman: The Dark Knight with Batman Inc.
This will be a sad day for both Static Shocks (the mod and the title/character)

Replacing two war comics with another seems kinda odd to me.

And Ravagers...isn't that the same synopsis that TT and Superboy is working from atm? Same thing really with Dial H going on the same track as Captain Atom.

Almost exactly what I wanted.

Earth-2 Huntress in World's Finest with Power Girl, a return of DC's classic war heroes, and Rose Wilson and Fairchild plus two others in a GEN 13ish teen team book.

Three of my pull list titles are cancelled, but I will be picking up all six new ones.

Thank you for reading my posts DC.
