DC Announces JUSTICE LEAGUE 3000

DC is going back to the future with their biggest characters.

What would the Justice League be like if it was the year 3000? That's exactly what a brand new series by JM DeMatteis, Keith Giffen and Kevin Maguire is aiming to reveal! The trio will jump one millennium into the future with DC's most iconic characters and they've all undergone some pretty sweet redesigns by artist Howard Porter. I actually don't mind this. I tend not to read the mainstream Justice League, so this can provide me with my DC intake, without having it to do with the original trio. Hopefully it will be good.

Also fix this Superman's retarded hair.

Instead, why don't you read All-Star Superman.

(sigh) Why is this series being made? With villains month approaching it would've made far more sense to use these designs on a New 52 take on the Crime Syndicate of America. I could particularly see the Superman one being used for his CSA counterpart Ultraman (and yes even with the crazy hairdo, lol) and the Batman one, with some slight alterations, could be used for his CSA counterpart Owlman. As for the rest of them I'd go back to the drawing board, don't get me wrong, I really like them (especially that Flash) again I'm just thinking about using them for New 52 designs of the CSA...

but since that's totally not what they plan on using these for anyway I guess it makes this whole post irrelevant so carry on. lol :-)

Hmm. Seems like an interesting concept. I can go along with it if they make it a limited series and similar to DC 1,000,000.

It actually sounds quite cool and the designs are rather nice. I actually want to check that one. Plus if they are going to use Wally West, Donna Troy and the others characters instead of the usual ones, that is one more reason to check it. Do hope we are going to see the 3000 versions of other characters like Aquaman or Green Arrow for example. Curious to see if it is going to be in continuity or just an Elseworlds-like book though.

As for people complaining about some books getting cancelled and this one replacing them, those books were cancelled for a reason. If you hate the idea of this book that much, you can always not read it. No one is forcing you. Sure there is going to one more Justice League book but it has been proven that those sell more (for better or worse) and I am pretty sure that a lot of those who are complaining are going to buy it. If you want DC to create more non-Batman, Superman, Justice League etc titles, how about supporting those titles then and actually buy them instead of just complaining when they get cancelled and say how great they were?

There's a pretty large variety to DC's current line up but people choose to focus solely on Batman and Justice League books rather than taking note of the myriad of other options available to them as readers. Aquaman, Green Lantern, Justice League: Dark, Swamp Thing, Batwoman, etc. are all very well-written, very engaging books that most people sleep on as they choose to bitch about the over saturation of Bruce Wayne in DC's universe. Well no shit they're going to have Batman be a recurring character in many of their books, he's the one individual in the DC universe who makes it a point to keep up to date on everything related to meta human affairs should he ever feel the need to step in. That's part of his character, and moreover it makes good business sense to have the individual that's arguably the most iconic comic book character on Earth in more of your books to increase reader interest and push sales.

Also, I really wish Marvel fans would be honest with themselves over the reason why Marvel's sales figures are usually higher than DC's. It has everything to do with the current MCU having generated an abundance of interest in comic books in general, specifically for those characters currently featured on the silver screen, and nothing to do with the quality of the books being better. If you honestly think hack writers like Brian Michael Bendis (Age of Ultron... lol) and Jonathan Hickman (some of the worst writing for Doom I've ever seen, straight garbage) are anywhere near Snyder, Johns, etc. at this point then you're completely delusional. With Man of Steel's recent success and a Justice League film looming you're going to see a major increase in new readers over to DC, and sales will even out if not eventually edge out Marvel's unless they can pull some Disney cash to hire people that know how to actually write.

Anyway, shouts out to Spawn for keeping Image comics afloat. I need to catch up on those books, not sure if they've done anything else with the Malebolgia return yet or not.

I don't know why some are complaining. DC has put out countless of books with lesser known characters. But since nobody doesn't want to buy them, why shouldn't DC give fans what they want?

I'm surprised so many people like GL so much. That concept is probably one of the most unoriginal I've seen. A dark mysterious character with a hood. Moon Knight, Spectre, Cloak I'm just saying it's not that creative to me. The only one I really like is Flash.

Wish this was just a story rather than a new on-going. Like DC one million.

I honestly really like all these designs with my favorites being Flash and Green Lantern. The overwhelming negativity in the comments is absolutley ridiculous! Its a great creative team give it a chance! Comic fans are really starting to bum me out. When I first started reading a couple years back it seemed like fans were a more constructive bunch. Now all Im seeing is senseless hate and this hipster sense of superiority about mainstream comics.

It's not "hipster" it's pepole sick of reading the same damn characters over and over again. If your not a fan of Superman, Batman, Justice League, Avengers, Green Lantern or X-Men then there is no point reading comics as your fav books will just be cancelled and replaced with one of the above.

So if thats the Case and ppl are sick of the same Characters, then why is it every time DC tries to do that no supports them?? Talon ahhh what else Grifter, Voodoo,Batwing, VIbe,Katana and before you hop all over me and say Grifter isn't new well he was under DC this time and another good book that got cancelled cause the so-called "Tired of the same old people" didn't give the new ones a chance but scream change? So you can't fault them for not trying and I agree way to much negativity this could be really good for all we know.

Also characters like Deathstroke,Hawkman, etc for DC.

And I also forgot about Kaine for Marvel,Fearless Defenders,etc..

So please tell me,is it unreasonable that DC/Marvel (and frankly every f***ing company) will try to put their most famous characters first? I mean, what else would one expect? It's actually silly (even Naive) to think that they wouldn't put their most famous characters first, and then everyone else comes later. That's how things work....and again, the aim is to make money.Nothing really new or crazy about that at all...

It's like thinking a restaurant is crazy for advertising their most famous dishes.I understand if that was the ONLY thing there, but if there is variety.....

Those books weren't cancelled because the "tired of the same" pepole didn't but them, they where cancelled because they where the ONLY pepole buying them, everybody else was to busy buying all 15 Batman books, two of whitch were the worst some of the worst written books coming from DC. Hay remember a few years ago when there was only two Justice League books and two Avengers books? Was Marvel/DC making money then? This isn't about "pushing your main characters" as there is now going to be 5 Justice League books, it's about making a quick cash grab with name recognition instead of coming uo with original ideas and then more importantly PROMOTING THEM, that way great books like I, Vampire, Demon Knights and Dial H won't get cancelled and replaced with Justice League Vampire, Justice League Medieval and Justice League Dial. You pepole may like having a white washed comic company but I would actually like some new concepts and originality in mine.

JM DeMatteis is an awesome writer. I've been a fan of his since his Dr Fate stories in the 80's. So there could definitely be some cool developments here.

why is everyone so F***ing angry with DC announcements today (Superman/Wonder Woman and Justice League 3000) these have great potential if you allow them to. all you need to say is yes, no or maybe.

S/WW is good idea but follow it closely and i will borrow the issues from my sister.

Justice League 3000 concept art looks amazing apart from superman's head and wonder woman's left arm. if done right it could be an awesome book. the same goes for S/WW

So,maybe those people actually enjoyed those books.Simply because you didn't doesn't mean other didn't. And I wasn't really stating that they were cancelled because those people were buying them,I was stating that because fans usually come with some sort of bias.Example A: This thread.

  • Hay remember a few years ago when there was only two Justice League books and two Avengers books? Was Marvel/DC making money then? This isn't about "pushing your main characters" as there is now going to be 5 Justice League books, it's about making a quick cash grab with name recognition instead of coming uo with original ideas and then more importantly PROMOTING THEM, that way great books like I, Vampire, Demon Knights and Dial H won't get cancelled and replaced with Justice League Vampire, Justice League Medieval and Justice League Dial'

Well,I can't really disagree with the cash grab thing...but I guess we are forgetting the ton of other new books:

The green team

World's Finest (awful series)

All star western

The movement

Constantine

Animal Man

Grifter (cancelled)

Ravagers (cancelled)

Hawk/Dove (cancelled)

Deathstroke (cancelled)

Threshold (cancelled)

Vibe

Katana

Captain Atom (cancelled)

Along with the others I stated and this was just DC,I can list the same for Marvel.Do you have any freaking idea how many of these other titles there are? I can understand, however, you getting sick of them cancelling these books for another batman book.At the same time, back to what you previously stated: How the hell are you going to say that those people are the only ones buying the book. And yes,DC should promote them better, but god dammit they did give these titles a chance. That is one huge thing,if people don't buy them,oh freaking well it's not their fault. At the same time, when they replace it with another Batman book,I can understand the frustration...The book isn't necessarily bad, however. At the same time,it is unoriginal in the sense that we already see this character in other titles and that you've wanted to see other characters. That's understandable, but to say that DC/Marvel don't really try anything new, especially with all of these titles that they continuously push out that no one buys is just.....ugh,it's really staggering.

Also...I like JL Dark. And it doesn't have any of the other cash cows. There are also plenty of other books like that.

  • You pepole may like having a white washed comic company but I would actually like some new concepts and originality in mine.

1.How the f*** are you to assume that we hate originality when all we are saying is that saying a comic is "bad" before it's even read with some stupid bias is just dumb?Saying that we see the character far too often is one thing, and using the same character in many titles doesn't mean that it has the same concepts....although I can also see what you are saying with originality.

2.What the hell does "white washed" have to do with anything? That has nothing to do with the topic of originality that comic book companies do.

3.Yes,DC/Marvel should try a bit harder to promote other lesser known comic books instead of cancelling them and replacing them with the same Bat-Super-books. But at the same time, they push out so many that it's not really their fault if people don't buy them because they don't want the series for whatever reason (maybe they can't afford the book since they have too many, maybe they don't want to try something new, maybe they just don't like the book, etc). You can't really expect them to buy a book, especially a lesser known one.Even popular ones like Avengers.JLA,etc, you can't freaking expect them to buy those books either.

I mean,I can just say that that is the name of the game.Valiant does it (I mean seriously, why the heck do I only see so few titles from them. Can't they come up with something new?! I wanna try to get into Valiant, but their books are just so....meh).Money is the name of the game,so you can't really blame them for pushing their main cash cows for money. It's good enough that they come out with new titles and concepts, but if people don't buy them...

As a Legion fan (yes one of those), I can't help but have a bad taste in my mouth about this... concept. DC has done "future versions of current characters" before, and very well might I add, with the BEYOND universe which is set a few decades down the line of what is meant to be the current continuity and I must admit that I really loved the "DC 1 Million" stuff. But this, just doesn't feel right to me (on first impression). This timeline is meant to be for the Legion (IF this title is taking place in the Main DC New 52 earth 1, though I'm thinking/hoping it might be taking place on a parallel earth) and the reason they work in the future setting (and don't go making "they were cancelled" arguments as the Legion had a series running for the past 40+ years) is that they weren't tied to the big 5 and their universe (no need to introduce a future Alfred, or a future robin and such), they were independent of the main continuity as they had their own. If DC tries to make it so that this series is meant to be set in the main 52 future than, well, they're already messing up their established New-52 31st century continuity WHICH HAD BEEN ESTABLISHED! + If this superman is meant to be a future version of Kal-El then why isn't he in the Legion? As Superman is a member of the Legion, so why create another team with a weaker roster? I don't know. This just feel like a stab in the back to DC's Legion fans (unless they elaborate more on the title), though from the initial explanations for it it does seem as though it's going to be set on a parallel earth, so these may be earth-Random Bruce, Clark, excetera...

As for the designs themselves I'm not liking them, to be honest (well green lantern looks good, but as someone has pointed out if you take away the lantern symbol you've just got ragman). Batman's suit doesn't look like it would be used in the future (a step down from BEYOND) and it's just to red (why are the bat family getting so many red things now?), Flash, I don't know, it just doesn't work for me, similarly to wonder Woman. And yes im going to say that superman hair does look silly (and before you start attacking me, yes I have read all star superman, and yes I am aware that this is the same/similar cut to Kal Kent, BUT it's still silly. Grant Morrison likes playing with the silly and the hair cut was obviously one of them).

Alright well as good as this all sounds, its not good with the fans already just with the character art so that says something. And if that Flash is Wally West? Well. Lots of people are going to be unhappy...

Supes- Same hairstyle as half of the try-hard boys at school.

Bats- Looks more like a dragon than a bat. Cool.

WW- Hair looks feral. The top part of her...'armor' looks like a collar and leash.

Flash- More hipster than futuristic.

GL- Reminds me of the Silk Spectre, but gray.
