Dark Knight Returns & Batman: Year One Animated Features Coming?

That's the rumor.

Hopefully this part won't have William Tell's Overture on the soundtrack.

With adaptations of NEW FRONTIER, UNDER THE HOOD and THE DEATH OF SUPERMAN out there and dazzling the people, there was certainly a question of when we’d to see two of the greatest BATMAN stories ever get similar treatment. Bleeding Cool’s got a scoop that not only is a feature length toon version of YEAR ONE in the works, so too will THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS gets its DTV due. It’ll surely be a spell before we see the DVD or Blu-Ray of these on the shelves at the ol’ consumer electronics department store. I can certainly imagine either coming out to coincide with the release of THE DARK KNIGHT RISES - - which   certainly would be apropos considering how, you know, it got the inspiration for its title from Miller’s book.

All of these DC Animated projects have been pretty remarkable for capturing the rendering style of the comics they’re based on. I get a little giddy thinking about what Miller’s cartoonist art would look like in motion. And, of course, I’d be remiss not to bring up one of the latter episodes of BATMAN THE ANIMATED SERIES which actually featured a segment recreating a couple key scenes from DKR. Having watched this episode on the very Saturday morning it debuted, I’ve got to say that the prospect of seeing this aching tease finally fulfilled is infinitely appealing…  == TEASER ==

Now these are two films I could really sink my teeth into.

I wanted to see animated version of DKR since I've seen the episode of Batman: The Animated Series with the homage to DKR.

Yea, these would be MUST HAVES. Would be killer seeing DKR, I too have been waiting for that since the book.

Holy guacamole!

This is great news indeed! Thanks for posting the video of the tribute as well.

Posted by goldenkey

WOW!!!  Great news.  Wondering if there is going to be narrartion used tho.  Won't be the same without it.  Also wondering if the standard 70 minutes will be long enough for DKR.  I doubt it.
Posted by Grimoire

I really want to see Batman : Year One.

Sooooooooooooooooo excited.

Uuuuggggh I think just about everything by frank miller is a steaming pile of crap.

Posted by Xenozoic Shaman

Isn't this delightful? I love The Dark Knight Returns.  They've done well with many other recent releases, so that likely bodes well for this.

I do like Year One and I'm excited to see it.  Also nice thing I read about this movie is that shorts are going to return, and this one will be a Catwoman one (it was on wikipedia, so don't know if that's to be trusted).

The Dark Knight Returns....most overrated comic of all time IMO. Thought it was dull and boring. But that was years ago when I read it. Maybe I need to read it again.  I would rather have a Knightfall movie over a TDKR one.

Also, there is too much Superman and Batman. I know how well they sell, and WB doesn't want to take any chances, lol, but I'd love to see a Flash, Green Arrow, Jonah Hex, or Deathstroke animated (full) movie. The animated Teen Titans: The Judas Contract movie which was canceled should be revived. I would like to see that.

oh hell yes DKR has my favorite fight scene in comics ever . Batman beating superman

Hope they do this right

Great another Miller story where Superman will end up looking like an idiot,c'mon better stories people.

cool.

Maybe DC is doing this cause they might lose Superman.

I'm super excited for Year One, but there are other Batman stories that should be animated before The Dark Knight Returns.

Posted by KRYPTON

A really good rumor. That would be awesome.

Posted by WhitOro

I'll be happy only if they make a Dark Knight Strikes Again movie.
Posted by Eyz

Too much Batman... I'd prefer them making some original ones like they did with Green Lantern (back then) or Wonder Woman.
Maybe a Flash or Green Arrow animated movie?

Or adapting JLA: year one?

Posted by JonesDeini

1) LOVED THIS EPISODE!!!

2) Can't wait for either of these

Even the bat stories they're choosing are rubbish,it's like they want the fans to believe he's an unstoppable God.How about Venom?where he battles addiction,or Knightfall where he gets broken or Fugitive where he had to choose between Batman and Bruce Wayne.

This is sickening,i love the BatGod but only Morrison can do him justice, hacks like Loeb and Miller just ruin it.

Nice. Miller did a great job with Batman, and Loeb, yes I'm gonna say this, also did a god job with Batman. Hoperfully Kevin Conroy will be in this.

Miller did a great job with Batman once (Year One) and a good job once (DKR), and Loeb did a great job once (TLH) (DV was basically the same thing as TLH).

All Star and Superman/Batman are terrible (shudders).

can someone say OVERRATED.........i agree that there are plenty of other well written books out there for them to do a movie on...........miller is overated........DKR is overrated......just like batman year one

Setting aside the fact that I hate what Miller has done to Catwoman, Year One really bores the hell out of me. Borrowed it from the library once. Couldn't get into it after reading a couple of pages. Tried to read it again at a Barnes & Noble. Ended up switching to Architectural Digest instead. I don't understand the appeal.

From what I have heard Year One release is supposed to coincide with San Diego Comic-Con

Posted by Video_Martian

I'm sick & tired of Batman, give us the damn Flash movie already.

Posted by Video_Martian

...or at least another SHAZAM or Green Arrow animated movie.

@mr.obvious: I AGREE DON'T GET ME WRONG I LOVE BATMAN BUT THERE are other superheroes and teams

People got their dark and gritty story,to the diehard Batfanatics that's all that matters.Nevermind the fact that Bruce's personality there was non existant,or the fact that it lacked  an actual plot and villian.I consider it to be amongst the worst Batman stories i've ever read.

Yes this too.

More interested in Year One and then follow it up with the Long Halloween.
Posted by The WeatherMan

If they do make TDKR, I hope they keep the narration from Batman's point of view intact. Cause that made the comic for me. It wouldn't even be half as awesome without Batman going "  You cannot escape me. You are puny, you are small, you are nothing–a hollow shell, a rusty trap that cannot hold me. Smoldering, I burn you burning you, I flare, hot and bright and fierce and beautiful. You cannot stop me."

@Shadowfire:  Have you read it? I'm not even a fan of batman, but respect given to where it's been earned. The Dark Knight Returns has to be one of my favorite books and I don't want to be rude but you should give it a try, it's really good and you might like it.
