With adaptations of NEW FRONTIER, UNDER THE HOOD and THE DEATH OF SUPERMAN out there and dazzling the people, there was certainly a question of when we’d to see two of the greatest BATMAN stories ever get similar treatment. Bleeding Cool’s got a scoop that not only is a feature length toon version of YEAR ONE in the works, so too will THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS gets its DTV due. It’ll surely be a spell before we see the DVD or Blu-Ray of these on the shelves at the ol’ consumer electronics department store. I can certainly imagine either coming out to coincide with the release of THE DARK KNIGHT RISES - - which certainly would be apropos considering how, you know, it got the inspiration for its title from Miller’s book.
All of these DC Animated projects have been pretty remarkable for capturing the rendering style of the comics they’re based on. I get a little giddy thinking about what Miller’s cartoonist art would look like in motion. And, of course, I’d be remiss not to bring up one of the latter episodes of BATMAN THE ANIMATED SERIES which actually featured a segment recreating a couple key scenes from DKR. Having watched this episode on the very Saturday morning it debuted, I’ve got to say that the prospect of seeing this aching tease finally fulfilled is infinitely appealing… == TEASER ==
