Dark Avengers/Uncanny X-Men: Exodus Reviewed

What does the conclusion have in store?

The Utopia story arc is finally over.  The arc started out with a bang but seemed to drag on a little.  I've seen a lot of lackluster response as the arc progressed.  What does the conclusion have in store for us?  How are things going to end?

The arc may have fizzled a bit but we see the potential from this storyline.  There was a lot of big fights that could've been seen here.  Perhaps we'll see some rematches in the future.  To me, it felt like the story arc drag on a little but was rushed in this final issue.  Despite being the 'conclusion,' there are a lot of threads that have been created.  Now that Utopia has been created, what will that mean for the X-Men and mutantkind?  I don't think we've seen the last of the Dark Avengers vs. the X-Men.  We know the Dark X-Men, what's left of them, will return in November.  We have Dark X-Men: The Confession coming up that will show some of the fallout between Scott and Emma.  There's also the result of Emma's encounter with Sentry.  So even though I wasn't entirely crazy about this final issue, a lot of future storylines have been put into place.  I don't think you could have a firm conclusion in this battle between Norman and the mutants.  It should be interesting to see what will happen next.

What did you think?  Did you enjoy the arc?  What did you think of this conclusion?  Do you think that Utopia will last?

Ah, wasn't really my cup of tea, though I do look forward to the dark X-men! Mimic as Archangel, and a couple I'm not shure of, I think Cloak and Dagger, and Namor? Wait, I confused!?

What could have been nice covers were needlessly ruined for no apparent reason. Why couldn't they have just used the very top of the book to put the Utopia text, similar to the way they did with the Dark X-Men books? That would have been much less detracting from the cover.

I prefer Deodato's art over Dodson's, but I feel like Dodson should have done the whole issue. The Dark Avengers and Osborn are everywhere in Dark Reign, this arc was more X-Men-centric and didn't even really need to have a Dark Avengers crossover. Maybe it would have been better off as a limited series, because the Dark Avengers book was sent on a tangent by this storyline, and suffered as a result.

I haven't read X-men because of just that.  To many characters and not enough character development.  Everybody just pissed of because of something.  The book is over loaded with to many charcters and lost what it's appeal was to begin with.  A team.  A few members, a cameo every other story,  At the end of the year one person left, one person came in.  Now it's more like the X - university.  Like the X-men are  becoming the Inhumans. I don't know the whole story, I don't read X-men, but didn't the Inhumans have Atlantas as an Island utopia.  Why don't they just go to Savage land.

"
Well.  You pretty much hit the nail on the head when you said you don't read X-Men.  It's been a bunch of mutants jam-packed into a story for twenty years.  Sometimes it's been great, and sometimes it hasn't been.  Do you read the Inhumans?  Outside of the royal family, only a handful of individuals has come and gone.  I don't see what you're trying to say with that comparison.   So many people rip on books they don't read.  Why is that? As far as the COBRA ISLAND jazz, really?!  It's Asteroid M, and obviously Scott's going to have it's owner wondering what's going on with the NATION X bit coming up.  With MAGS being all over the new solicits coming out in the next few months, it makes sense.  Besides, we knew it was never going to be the X-Men that took Norman down.  IMO the X-Men just softened Normie up for the coup de grace. "

I wouldn't say they've softened him up. They've pretty much handed Osborne his first true defeat and being the first people to actually stand up to Norman's regime puts the x-men in a far better light than all the other so called "heroes" who have yet to do anything but talk about it. Obviously the X-men won't be the ones taking Norman down but they were the first to do something. I don't think any ONE person will beat Norman, it'll more than likely be a group effort, perhaps from the characters featured in "The list" one shots?

A weak attempt at humor.  It's what sprang to mind when seeing them raise it from the depths.  The idea is the same, a place they can declare their own without anyone bothering them.  So that means G.I. Joe can't touch the X-Men now.

@goldenkey: True, but I like the Inhumans because it is all about the characterisation and it usually focuses on a small set of individuals.  Whereas Uncanny suffers from the 'rotating door' roster system.  Characters are brought in for random and vacuous reasons; Northstar because they wanted 'someone who could take down a motorbike'.

Yes it is.  So far it has been referred to as Asteroid M; not as Utopia... yet.  But it's daft, all these years the X-Men have been trying to integrate with society.  They've had numerous chances to join Magneto on Asteroid M and in Genosha.  So now they've reclaimed Asteroid M to live Magneto's dream?  It doesn't make sense.

I just read it. The whole thing made sense to me. It was Astroid M not just some random place and they had been repairing it, it sounded like anyway.

GREAT TWIST, Magneto has been their enemy and they fought against this for so long, but no that a Magneto like Villain is in power they don't have a choice. There's less then 200 Mutants left alive and they need to make sure they live on.

I was expecting more epic fighting going on as each of them toke down the dark avengers they were fighting but all you really get his dani fight scene, scott as the only X-man to lose and everyone else either tying with their opponent or beating them off panel.

It probably used to hold that much when Magneto gave his Acolytes a home.  I love how there's absolutely no battle damage from when Holocaust appeared, or signs of damage from the burning re-entry into Earth's atmosphere and crashing into the bottom of San Francisco Bay.... Ah well, it just gives the Sentinels one last target to aim at.

It certainly looks that way.  Although I can't imagine her having God powers for much longer.  To be honest, if it was that easy to give Dani Moonstar God-killing powers, then why didn't Hela do it as part of her plot to kill Odin during the Acts of Vengeance instead of farting around with dawrves, a magical sword and an army of the dead?? :p

I didn't like the art. All the different positions confused me as to where exactly were they.

IMO that line by Scott was the best in the book. It shows how confident Scott was in his plan and that he was ready for everything Osborn was going to throw at him.  I would be smiling too if my god killer made it to the fight.

At this point there are waaay too many mutants to cover to show a lot of individual fights (where's Hepzibah?) I'll admit there were a few random match ups where I would have preferred to see other characters. But the focus was using the key players to take down the Avengers/Dark X-Men.

Yeah good stuff G-man. Can't really add much more myself other then I was looking forward to Utopia but it did seem to just fizzle out a little towards the end but Exodus seemed to bring a little bit of life back into the precedings. Going to still follow the Dark X-men but also X-men in general which I have never done before.
