Daredevil TV Show and More Heading to Netflix

Marvel is teaming up with Netflix for an exclusive deal to create FOUR new shows! Get excited, people.

Netflix fans, rejoice. Everyone else: prepare to get Netflix. Today it was announced The Walt Disney Co. and Netflix are joining forces for massive Marvel TV deal. They're going to bring a grand total of four live-action shows exclusively to the top internet TV Network starting in 2015. So, who are the lucky characters getting some time in the spotlight? It should come as no surprise Daredevil is one of them, but also getting their own shows are Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage. The website says Netflix agreed to a minimum of four, thirteen episode series and it'll all build-up to a "The Defenders" mini-series event.

Marvel Television and ABC Television Studios will produce the shows. Alan Fine, President of Marvel Entertainment, shared his enthusiasm over the development. "The deal is unparalleled in its scope and size, and reinforces our commitment to deliver Marvel's brand, content and characters across all platforms of storytelling. Netflix offers an incredible platform for the kind of rich storytelling that is Marvel's specialty."

Viners, on a scale of 1 to "AWWWWWW YEAH," how excited are you?

THAT's what I'm talking about. Not being on Network TV should allow DD and the others to get as dark as they need to get.

Your move, DC/Hourman. Marvel is owning you right now, lol.

I'm saying that as a DC fan.

If they are stuck on CW, why not do teen heroes who actually deal with teen drama rather than de-aging older heroes? Why not do a Static show or a Vibe show? They can't be expensive.

Glad to see Marvel take a stand for female and minority heroes.

Hopefully there are enough stories to tell for Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist to have their own shows. I feel like all 3 could be in one show, then Marvel could have a more diverse spread of shows. Daredevil would be epic.

@2cool4fun: Moon Knight my be Marvel's version of Batman but he is a hell of a lot more interesting as a character with his multiple personalities and the fact that he truly is crazy. I think of him in many ways as the Batman DC would never allow.

the defenders? Would have used heroes for hire or marvel knights myself, but to each their own. Hoping for Terry Crews as Luke Cage.

HAHAHA that would be fantastic. xD

I hope they don't make Luke Cage too strong. If they are going for a grounded street level thing. hmm then that leaves Jessica Jones and her issues. Don't know how they are going to work in her abilities and still seem street level.

A Daredevil show, a Jessica Jones show, an Iron Fist show and a Luke Cage show? I'm excited but why make them separate? Hopefully they're all highly interconnected and just lead into a mega show with all of them.

I think it si great that Marvel is doing at TV show and Daredevil is far more suited for a TV show than movie.

Marvel/Disney are doing it right!

Agents of SHIELD ties into the movies. Now we have the ground-level heroes making their tie-ins. I hope this also leads to an on-going Heroes for Hire, the introduction of Mockingbird, Carol Danvers and Spider-Woman.

While this is great news, I can't help but feel a bit annoyed as I don't have Netflix and that the only way I can watch these shows is to get something I've had no reason to get up until now. I feel this will alienate people, like myself, who don't have Netflix.

I get that, but it's EIGHT dollars per month, and you'll be able to gorge and watch all 13 episodes of a season in a single week if you want! There's often free 15 day trials and stuff too. I'm on my second free trial in two years. Think about it like paying $8 each "season" to see a 13-hour movie. Cancel right after if you want.

@warmoney said:

I'm sure you will be willing to pay 7.99 per month for these shows. Hell I would.

You say that as if $7.99 isn't a lot, add that up over twelve months and that's almost $100. That's actually a lot to ask for to simply enjoy four TV shows. Even more so when I can watch Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D on ABC for FREE, yet I have to pay money to watch Daredevil. That actually annoys me a little.

It just feels like I'm being ripped off as the only way I can enjoy these shows is to buy something I've had no desire to get in the past. And I'm sure I'm not the only one who will feel this way.

Like I said though, you can sign up for a single month. If you want, you could even wait until all four are out and watch them ALL for $8 in one month. Or, whatever you can stuff into a free trial.

I'm not telling you to not be upset about the delivery method. That's your opinion! But I'm just trying to explain some ways you can either rationalize it for a month or even watch it for free.

Also, 13 hours! Do you go see the movies when they come out? I don't know where you live, but that's probably pushing $10 at least.

I need to know who's show running and producing this before I'll get excited. House of Cards was an interesting prestige novelty with plenty of name value but really dragged. At the sametime Orange is the New Black is one of my favorite series all year and that's from the "disgraced" showrunner of Weeds.

Buying things sight unseen like Netflix is a bit of a risk. These could all easily turn out terrible. The pilot and production process for TV is kinda wack but there is a built in feedback loop that can tell writers what's work and what isn't.

Dude, you have until 2015 to get it... I think you can accomplish that by then.
