Daredevil TV Show and More Heading to Netflix

Marvel is teaming up with Netflix for an exclusive deal to create FOUR new shows! Get excited, people.

Netflix fans, rejoice. Everyone else: prepare to get Netflix. Today it was announced The Walt Disney Co. and Netflix are joining forces for massive Marvel TV deal. They're going to bring a grand total of four live-action shows exclusively to the top internet TV Network starting in 2015. So, who are the lucky characters getting some time in the spotlight? It should come as no surprise Daredevil is one of them, but also getting their own shows are Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage. The website says Netflix agreed to a minimum of four, thirteen episode series and it'll all build-up to a "The Defenders" mini-series event.

Marvel Television and ABC Television Studios will produce the shows. Alan Fine, President of Marvel Entertainment, shared his enthusiasm over the development. "The deal is unparalleled in its scope and size, and reinforces our commitment to deliver Marvel's brand, content and characters across all platforms of storytelling. Netflix offers an incredible platform for the kind of rich storytelling that is Marvel's specialty."

Viners, on a scale of 1 to "AWWWWWW YEAH," how excited are you?

Scott Adkins for Iron Fist?

I mean, he may not pull off the blonde hair dye, but what do I know?

@tupiaz said:

@captain13: Wouldn't it be realistic to assume that Luke Cage and Iron Fist sooner or later forms Heroes for hire? They are only saying there will be four shows not a show for each character.

No, I don't think so. I think they are doing for Netflix what they did for the movies. I base my information on the bleeding cool article. The whole Defenders thing is the miniseries that everything is supposed to be building up to.

Plus Luke and Danny have completely unrelated origin stories. Marvel is taking a slow, methodical approach for non-comcis reader, so I don't think they would shove together 2 different worlds like that without establishing each hero on their own. Maybe after Defenders Heroes for Hire may come along, but I do not see it happening before.

But I'm me and you are you. So you can wait for more detail If my line of reasoning doesn't work for you.

Kingpin is owned by Sony with the Spider-Man writes.

Not sure that's true. The Daredevil movie was Fox and featured Kingpin as the main villain.

He was 'borrowed' to Fox for that one movie, and then returned to Sony.

Saw this on bleeding cool:

So we have Matt Murdock trying to clear the escaped prisoner Luke Cage and hiring Jessica to investigate Luke's illegal experimentation claims that leads to Rand Corporation bio-weapons division who were using prisoners illegally in an attempt to recreate the Super-Soldier serum and a search to find missing business man Wendell Rand and his son who went missing in asia and in so doing find themselves opposed by the Ninja group the Hand on a path that leads to the discovery of the legendary city K'un Lun and a need for the aid of Dr. Strange to gain access to it

<takes a breath>

or something like that.

Dr. Strange will likely get a film instead, but the pieces kind of fit. The only part that looked a little forced was the Iron Fist part, but I am sure Marvel can make it work if the Hand works for Kingpin or Tombstone or whomever.

This is brilliant news, but I do hope they'll release it on Netflix in Europe. I'm in Ireland, and we are missing a huge amount of content that those in the US have, I'd hate to miss these! :o

Could not be more excited about this, Netflix has made some impressive series so far, so I'm trusting them pretty well. 4 series does seem to be kinda jumping the gun to lead up to a crossover, but I look forward to seeing Daredevil and Iron Fist in particular.

Not sure how many viewers Jessica Jones and Luke Cage can pull in, would've been better to have Luke and Iron Fist in a Heroes for Hire show but whatever!

That is pretty awesome. I am especially excited about a Jessica Jones show. But separating Fist and Cage? Weird.

Other Netflix original programming has been distributed by other means in international markets. For instance, I know Orange is the New Black has definitely been shown on broadcast television outside the US

So awesome, after recently beating LEGO Marvel I began wanting to get more and more in Daredevil. He's a character I've always liked but never read too much of, other than the one off here and there. Need to pick up some of his big story lines but the show should be awesome.

Everybody knows I love DD and Iron Fist and I'm sure people will love these shows but I'm pretty sure there not going to be for me. Its not so much that characters I love but the story's that are told with them, I think Luke Cage and Iron Fist are at there most interesting when there books read like a throwback to 70s and 80s martial arts and blaxplotation films so when I want to watch that on tv id want something like 'what if Quentin Tarantino tried to make Mortal Kombat' and its the same with Daredevil, I want dirty pulp noir with a dark city, fem fatale and a murder mystery. It may be to early to judge but its pretty obvious these shows will be family friendly superhero romps so that they fit in with this Avengers World theyv built, that's cool for those who like it but its not for me.

I'm SOOOOOO excited!!! I've been incredibly disappointed by Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. because of the lack of actual Marvel characters and this is the perfect platform to introduce some of the lesser knowns to a larger audience!

I can see Shang-Chi, Moon Knight, Cloak & Dagger, Misty Night & White Tiger and so many others getting some screen time!

That's pretty awesome. Hopefully they'll be a bit more involved in Marvel stuff than Agents of Shield.

Actually I'd rather they not and just do street level stuff, no reason to have them fight earth shattering threats when there are tons of street level villains and crime that can be used. They should add Punisher and Moon Knight to the list and you can have major crossovers with the different characters.

I would like to see Marvel/Disney extend out and make a few adult-themed shows... but who knows if they would. Punisher on AMC or HBO? Ahem... how about... GARTH ENNIS' Punisher on Showtime? I can only dream...

Because Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. proved how not cheap and not cardboard-thin TV Marvel is.

Let's all get excited that they're now turning their cheap hand to Daredevil and others *Rolls eyes*. No. Matt deserves a movie.

Oh also... the Netflix deal is insane. Disney owns everything ABC... that means they've just snubbed their very own networks in favor of Netflix. How does that even happen? Someone at ABC has got to be falling on their a** after the rug being pulled from under them.

@war_killer: dude there is so much on Netflix that I know a lot of people that have cancelled their cable subscriptions after getting Netflix....I don't know what I would do without my Netflix account

I'm not saying Netflix is bad and I'm sure there are plenty of good things that it offers; I just have never desired to get Netflix and now Marvel is basically telling people that if I don't get it than I can't enjoy these new shows. It just comes off as if Marvel's saying, "Have Netflix? Awesome, enjoy the new shows! Oh, you don't? Well, screw you!"

I'm not trying to sound like a cheap-freak or anything like that, but I like that I can enjoy shows like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Arrow on normal TV for free. But now Marvels making me have to pay just to watch their shows? That just bugs me. I mean paying to watch a high-budget movie is one thing, but when I have to start paying money to watch a freakin' TV show...yeah, that just rubs me the wrong way.

I'm assuming Jessica Jones' series will revolve around her time dealing with Purple Man and it will connect with Luke Cage's series somehow (makes sense...). Iron Fist should certainly tap into the small roots of the mystical side of the MCU. It'd be good since it's still taking awhile for a Doctor Strange movie to be made.

Man, I am so unbelievably happy right now. Marvel is OWNING 2015 - The Avengers: Age of Ultron, Ant-Man and 4/5 mini-series moving along through 2016!
