Daredevil TV Show and More Heading to Netflix

Marvel is teaming up with Netflix for an exclusive deal to create FOUR new shows! Get excited, people.

Netflix fans, rejoice. Everyone else: prepare to get Netflix. Today it was announced The Walt Disney Co. and Netflix are joining forces for massive Marvel TV deal. They're going to bring a grand total of four live-action shows exclusively to the top internet TV Network starting in 2015. So, who are the lucky characters getting some time in the spotlight? It should come as no surprise Daredevil is one of them, but also getting their own shows are Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage. The website says Netflix agreed to a minimum of four, thirteen episode series and it'll all build-up to a "The Defenders" mini-series event.

Marvel Television and ABC Television Studios will produce the shows. Alan Fine, President of Marvel Entertainment, shared his enthusiasm over the development. "The deal is unparalleled in its scope and size, and reinforces our commitment to deliver Marvel's brand, content and characters across all platforms of storytelling. Netflix offers an incredible platform for the kind of rich storytelling that is Marvel's specialty."

Viners, on a scale of 1 to "AWWWWWW YEAH," how excited are you?

Marvel/Disney are doing it right!

Agents of SHIELD ties into the movies. Now we have the ground-level heroes making their tie-ins. I hope this also leads to an on-going Heroes for Hire, the introduction of Mockingbird, Carol Danvers and Spider-Woman.

Am I the only one who wanter an Iron Fist movie? I just think the special effects would be to expensive for a TV show.

I think it si great that Marvel is doing at TV show and Daredevil is far more suited for a TV show than movie.

A Daredevil show, a Jessica Jones show, an Iron Fist show and a Luke Cage show? I'm excited but why make them separate? Hopefully they're all highly interconnected and just lead into a mega show with all of them.

Awesome. I haven't been too thrilled with Agents of Shield but these sound very promising!

I'm definitely excited for this!

I hope they don't make Luke Cage too strong. If they are going for a grounded street level thing. hmm then that leaves Jessica Jones and her issues. Don't know how they are going to work in her abilities and still seem street level.

I'd say I'm about at an AWWWWWW YEAH x5.

Who shall play them is the question. But I love this idea.

@wolverine08: Videoman strikes again!!!

Seriously though this is awesome news.

the defenders? Would have used heroes for hire or marvel knights myself, but to each their own. Hoping for Terry Crews as Luke Cage.

HAHAHA that would be fantastic. xD

Suck it CW...

If you don't have netflix just buy the seasons when they are inevitably released on DVD or blu ray. This is awesome news.

@2cool4fun: Moon Knight my be Marvel's version of Batman but he is a hell of a lot more interesting as a character with his multiple personalities and the fact that he truly is crazy. I think of him in many ways as the Batman DC would never allow.

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GO DAREDEVIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

STORYLINE IDEA:Daredevil busts kingpin but has to defend him in court as his lawyer... i just think that would be a great moment for tv

Hopefully there are enough stories to tell for Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist to have their own shows. I feel like all 3 could be in one show, then Marvel could have a more diverse spread of shows. Daredevil would be epic.

This is incredible news! I'll be watching all of them on day one. Congrats Netfilx, you guys just struck gold with your user base. All they need is the right cast and they'll have a hit. I can't tell you how excited this makes me.

THAT's what I'm talking about. Not being on Network TV should allow DD and the others to get as dark as they need to get.

Your move, DC/Hourman. Marvel is owning you right now, lol.

I'm saying that as a DC fan.

If they are stuck on CW, why not do teen heroes who actually deal with teen drama rather than de-aging older heroes? Why not do a Static show or a Vibe show? They can't be expensive.

Glad to see Marvel take a stand for female and minority heroes.

F*CK! F*CK! F*CK! I DON'T HAVE F*CKING NETFLIX! DAMN IT!

Theres other ways to watch it.

They will make four thirteen episodes shows. However it seems like they will be interactive in someway since they will be combined in a miniTV show. Hopefully it will not be to confusing for averageTV viewers. Seems like it would be better to have one TV show over 4 season. http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=48980

Maybe Isaiah Mustafa can play Luke Cage after all.

Daredevil should be easy. He can set up Kingpin as the villain who brings these heroes together as the Defenders.

Iron Fist is easy as well. Just do his 8 cities of heaven tournament, which allows you to set up the Hand.

Luke Cage is a little harder due to lack of material, but I could see a Weapon X type storyline for him. I'm surprised that hasn't been in the comics actually.

I need to read up more on Jessica before her Alias days...

I'd prefer a Punisher's serial, rather than a Jessica Jones one.

DAREDEVIL?!?! F*CK YES!!!!!!

IRON FIST?! AWESOME!!!

*implodes from excitement

Not only are we getting major heroes who fans are excited about on TV (and who make sense on TV), we are also getting a lot of great VARIETY.

  • Each opens up different story telling opportunities (Crime, Magic, Grounded Science Fiction, etc.)
  • The heroes are diverse themselves; we have a woman, an African American, a disabled man, and someone who grew up in an Eastern society
  • They have different power sets and skills

I am really excited for this. And really proud of Marvel for giving us heroes who are actually diverse. Too many times, we've seen people say--it just won't work unless it's a white male lead! Too much money to put on the line for a risk. BLAH. BLAH. BLAH. We live in the 21st century. We've seen things like Hunger Games, Scandal, Sleepy Hollow, etc. succeed. Glad to see Marvel not make any excuses for -isms in the industry.

This has the potential to be freaking amazing... more comic related tv and movies the better I believe... The fact that I actually enjoy these characters is a bonus

These heroes are coming together to form the Defenders eventually according to bleeding cool. Punisher doesn't play nice on teams. But it would be cool for him to get his own series outside of this or to cameo--maybe he and Blade should start their own team that is pro-killing bad guys. They could get Elektra to join too.

That said, the Avengers/Marvel Phase One didn't give movies to Black Widow or Hawkeye, so maybe other heroes without shows will pop up on the Defenders series?

Misty Knight and Colleen Wing, I am looking at you.

This is not good news for me. I love Daredevil and do not have Netflix, and where I live it is impossible to get Netflix due to lack of a stable internet connection. Not a good start to my day.

Its Disney/Marvel, there will be a bluray or dvd within months of their release. They want to make as much money as they can and they won't limit themselves to just netflix subscribers.

agreed

@captain13: Wouldn't it be realistic to assume that Luke Cage and Iron Fist sooner or later forms Heroes for hire? They are only saying there will be four shows not a show for each character.

Edited by Mercy_

They've already said that at the end of the four shows, they'll be coming together in a mini series event, so it's logical to assume that there are going to be threads binding throughout.

Who do we think they'll go with for casting?
