Marvel kicked off today's Marvel NOW! liveblog with Cullen Bunn and Will Silvey to talk about the all-new, all-girl Marvel team-up titled THE FEARLESS DEFENDERS. The new series, which is set to launch in February, 2013. According to Bunn, the book will feature a rotating roster, but the series will kick off with Valkyrie and Misty Knight, who join together to create a very interesting team.
The cast will rotate depending on the arc. Brunnhilde has been tasked with assembling a new group of valkyrie. She'll bring together eight women she feels are worthy. That said, I don't intend to write every arc with a nine member team. We will have smaller groups and we will have guest stars who are not core cast members. When the full team comes together, it's for a huge, world-destroying threat.
In addition to the announcement about rotating members of this team, Bunn also revealed that the cast of characters will be pretty big, and that they will only join together when circumstances are really dire and there is a major threat. Bunn also went on to discuss the villains in his new series, including the introduction of some new faces to the title.== TEASER ==
We're introducing a new villain right off the bat from the first issue. She's seen an opportunity because there are no shield maidens in operation right now. There's a void. This woman starts working some very bad mojo that puts Valkyrie on the defensive immediately; it's her fault. We'll meet the Doom Maidens who are exceptionally bad news.
The series' writer promises a diverse cast led by two stark-opposite female leads (Valkyrie and Misty Knight), some new villains and all-around super hero action and adventure. The only real difference is that this particular series will feature a cast solely of female characters. When asked about who else fans can expect to see in the coming issues Bunn revealed that Dani Moonstar and a revamped Hippolyta should be expected, to name a few.
