You know those moments where you are reading a ' Sub-Mariner' comic and you suddenly feel enlightened? Okay maybe these sorts of things only happen to me due to my overwhelming " Namor fixation." Yes, I am purposely exaggerating. Anyway, I realized this morning just how much Heroes actor Zachary Quinto looks like Namor! This led me to the conclusion that he may be the perfect guy to don those scaley speedos! That's right, I have decided to actively push Universal Studios; who as of August of last year owned the character rights; to make Quinto the 'Sub-Mariner' in their film adaptation! That is, if they ever get around to making the movie.
The last time we heard anything about 'The Sub-Mariner' film adaptation was back in August of last year, which was also the last time the film's proposed director, Jonathan Mostow, discussed the film. According to IMDB, the film had been slated for release in 2010. This year. What happened?
Well 'Sub-Mariner' like all things Marvel, in a under a shroud of secrecy it's a project I have been developing, but we will have to see what happens. A question mark hangs over it right now.
Apparently, a 'Sub-Mariner' film has been "in development" since 2004. At least that is the earliest report of there being a film project. In that interview, Marvel Studios film executive Kevin Feige revealed that Namor had been set up at Universal Studios and that the script had been penned by David Self (Road To Perdition).
What's the hold up? At this point, I would rather see 'The Sub-Mariner's' movie rights return to Marvel and let them bring it to the big screen. Perhaps then, my dreams will come true. What do you guys think? And what characters do you want to see adapted onto the big screen?"Namor, that's a big one...We just got a new draft of the script in. The script is so spectacular and there are so many great things in it, we just wanted to have a conceptual artist come in and start doing some early renders...Then when we get a director on board, he'll come in and steer the project."
