Comic Vine Question of the Week Results: What Are You Thankful for This Year?

Thanksgiving is here! The Comic Vine community takes a minute to stop chowing down and tell us what they're especially grateful for.

Today, many Viners in the United States will be stuffing their faces with massive quantities of food. They'll likely be joined by friends and family and, when they have a moment to speak, some of them may reflect on the year and say what they're grateful for. We all know life can throw plenty of obstacles your way, so it's helpful to just take a breather and think about all of the good things you have going on. While we're sure many of you have a lot to be thankful for when it comes to life in general, we'd like to keep it topical here and focus on the one thing we all adore: comic book characters.

This week, we wanted to know what this year offered that you truly appreciated. A certain creative team? A movie? A specific comic book? Are you just happy your favorite character wasn't killed off? The list had quite a few options and now, after a swift two days of voting, the results are in. Well, it turns out most voters said they were thankful for a specific comic book series.

Obviously the responses in the poll thread listed everything from a unique collectible to a specific publisher. However, after taking a closer look at the two pages of discussion, there was A LOT of love for Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo's BATMAN, Man of Steel, Jeff Lemire and Andrea Sorrentino's GREEN ARROW, and Marvel's latest big event by Jonathan Hickman, INFINITY. Check out the complete poll results below.

  • A specific comic book series 38%
  • A specific comic book movie or TV show 23%
  • A specific publisher 9%
  • A specific creative team 8%
  • A specific big event 8%
  • A specific comic book video game 6%
  • A favorite character not getting killed 4%
  • A specific character's role 3%
  • A specific comic book collectible (figure, statue, etc) 2%
  • A specific cosplay 0%

Ultimately, it's safe to say 2013 offered a whole lot to love when it comes to the evergrowing world of comic book characters. But what did you vote for and why, Viners? Speak your mind below!

And to everyone who celebrates it: have a filling and fun Thanksgiving!

I suppose in the comic world, a comic series winning this should come as no surprise.

@k4tzm4n: First of all, thank you for taking a moment to offer a subtle reminder for the reason; I am very grateful to be in the company of family and friends in good health. Not everyone can do the same.

As for the rest; I am grateful that my wife continues to not only endorse this hobby but actively takes part in it with me - it makes it so much better to have shared this great passion. But if someone twisted my arm for something specific in publication; it would be silly to not thank the creative team behind Batman. But I would also be remiss if I didn't give thanks to Richard Starkings and Elephantmen.

Best wishes to all.

I would say Zero Year, which is the best Snyder yarn yet, Power Girl getting a variation of her classic costume back, Palmiotti, Grey and Moritat's excellent Jonah Hex stories, Jason Aaron's Thor run, and all of the non-super hero stuff Image is doing. Never thought I'd read an Image book and now they are half my pull list. And Catwoman's buttocks in that pic, you know the one.

Happy Thanksgiving urra-one!

I voted for a specific comic series because the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has been an amazing series this year. Tom Waltz and Kevin Eastman have nailed it every issue and the art has been great as well. Love it, love it, love it.

@longbowhunter: I would have to agree with this one. Its sad but its true.

I'm thankful for a number of things. I'm thankful for Superman Unchained, Jeff Lemire and Andrea Sorrentino's Green Arrow, Man of Steel, Trinity War, thankful for trying some new comics outside Marvel & DC, Arrow, and thankful for Uncanny Avengers getting better and better.

The God of Thunder book, especially Godbutcher series through to now, it's been an absolute pleasure to read a fantastic self contained book that remained so constantly great.

@k4tzm4n: Ah damn I guess I should've voted because I was pretty thankful how my cosplay came out for NYCC this year. :-(

Thankful for the abundance of awesome independent titles out right now. Valiant, Image, and IDW are all holding it down.

I am thankful that DC has some great supernatural/Vertigo-esque mainstream books. Phantom Stranger, Swamp Thing, Animal Man, Constantine and Justice League Dark have all been pretty great lately.
