Comic Vine, Chillingo & DC Want You to Win Some Original Frank Quitely Art

You won't believe how awesome (and easy) this contest is.

Superman is one of the greatest and most recognized superheroes. Recently Chillingo released a very cool iOS Superman game for the iPhone.

No Caption Provided

The game has you fighting against Lex Luthor and his evil scheme to take over the world. The game's features include:

No Caption Provided
  • Eighteen levels of superpowered action offer a perfect playground for putting Superman’s abilities to the test.
  • Save Metropolis from the mastermind Lex Luthor and his army of thugs, mechs, and other menacing forces.
  • Use all of Superman’s most iconic powers, including flight, heat vision, super-breath, super-strength, and super-speed.
  • Beat score challenges on each level to earn bronze, silver, and gold achievements.
  • Fantastic soundtrack from the composer of the award-winning Contre Jour!
No Caption Provided

Chillingo is set to unleash the first action-packed update to the game and to celebrate, we're giving away a pretty insane prize. (The update will be available when the contest ends).

== TEASER ==

What's the Grand Prize?

Let's just jump right to the big prize. Our friends at Chillingo got their friend, Frank Quitely, to do this sweet-looking Superman commission.

What Do I Do To Win?!?

No Caption Provided

We're going to make this easy.

In the comments below, submit a villain and scenario you'd like to see in your dream Superman game. Write a paragraph (a few sentences) explaining which villain you'd like to see, why that particular villain and what the main focus of your game would be like.

A winner will be selected at random from the completed entries. And the part some of you won't want to hear, this contest is open to individuals who are legal residents of the fifty (50) United States (including the District of Columbia) and are 18 years of age or older. It's not our call. It's a legal thing (see below for other legal stuff).

Are There Other Prizes?

Yes. Here is a list of the official prizes:

  • Grand prize winner (1): One commissioned Superman drawing by Frank Quitely, download code for Superman on iPhone, extra Chillingo swag of stickers, etc
  • Second place winner (1): 20 random Superman comics, download code for Superman on iPhone, extra Chillingo swag
  • Third place winners (10): Download code for Superman on iPhone

How Long Does the Contest Run?

The contest runs from right now, March 30 through midnight PT, Thursday, April 5.

There is only one entry per person (yes, we have ways to check that). There is a way to get a second entry. Follow @ComicVine, @Chillingo and @DCComics on Twitter. Be sure to include you Twitter screen name to be eligible for this second chance entry.

What are the other legal stuff?

Because of the scope of the contest and some of who's involved, we are required to include a bunch of other legal speak. CLICK AND READ THIS!

No purchase required to enter or win.

To all, I apologize for the US restriction. We're based in the US and have to follow US laws. It's the one thing that bums me out about the contests.

In the comments below, submit a villain and scenario you'd like to see in your dream Superman game. Write a paragraph (a few sentences) explaining which villain you'd like to see, why that particular villain and what the main focus of your game would be like.

In my dream Superman game, the main villain would be, of course, Lex Luthor. In this game, you begin as the Golden Age Superman, only lifting a few tons, no flight, etc. As the game progresses, you get stronger, more powers, etc. The main villain pulling the strings is Lex Luthor (him being Superman's greatest enemy), and the many bosses before his inevitable reveal would range from Metallo to Bizarro to Parasite. When you finally get to Luthor, he'll be armed with his infamous battle armor. Once you defeat him, he releases his last creation: Doomsday. To beat the game, you must defeat Doomsday with the many new powers you received thus far (flight, heat vision, arctic breath, etc.) It'll be a free roamer, much like Spider-Man 2 or Arkham City was.

I would love to see a game done in the style of Batman: Arkham City only that it would open up with Lobo and Superman duking it out. In the midst of this battle, other villains would start popping up suspicously. Lobo and Superman would stop fighting while observing the unexplainable transportation of villains, when all of a sudden Metropolis would become engulfed by a large glass (like in Action Comics New 52) and Brainiac would be trying to defeat Superman by simply over-burdening him with too much. Superman and Lobo would take time hold off on fighting each other and try to assist each other into taking out some of these hardcore baddies. Both Superman and Lobo would be playable characters, Brainiac would be the main villain, this game would have an enviormental change ever so often like the Zelda games do where the scenes change from daylight to night. Superman would obviously be able to fly, Lobo would use his motorcycle. Each character would have there own array of weapons and abilities. This game, like the Arkham series, would also have challenges in the main menu where you could do flat-out battles or do covert missions. Downloads would include characters for challenges such as Supergirl and Superboy, each with their own fighting style while staying somewhat true to Superman's. There would be downloadable skins for each character. Superman's would include (the 80s long hair superman, Clark Kent(suit & glasses), Godfall, New 52, Earth One, and animated series, Kingdom Come, Superman Prime, Red Son, Jor-El, and Kal-L Black Ring), Lobo's would include (the 52 series, animated series, and an outfit from his own series), Supergirl's would include (animated, New 52, Power Girl, Matrix, Linda Danvers, Cir-El, and Evil Supergirl) and Superboy's would include (New 52, Hypertension, and animated). There would be Olsen Photos to collect to earn these challenges, character trophis, and concept art. There would also be a whole lot of side missions, and maybe even a cameo from Batman in one scene (if nothing else, just him talking to Superman via Justice League intercom). Fortress of Solitude, Krypton, and Smallville would be downloadable challenge arenas. As far as little baddies, yes there would be robots built by Lex Luthor some would have Kryptonite and some wouldn't, a physical reconstruction of Kryptonians controlled by Brainiac, these reconstructions would also be people of Tyrell's race (from Earth One) and others who are affected in a postive way by the yellow sun. There would be a new feature, not seen yet in the Arkham games where there would be chase sequences that are time based and where you may be forced to slow down and use X-Ray vision. Like the Arkham games, this would be free-roam and the chunk of Metropolis would have to be triple the size of Arkham City since Superman could fly. I would call this game Superman: Metropolis.

Braniac has invaded Earth and plans to take Metropolis as part of his collection. Each level would be about Superman making his way through different parts of Metropolis, freeing enslaved citizens and fighting off Braniac's hordes. Level bosses would be other villains, such as Live Wire, Toyman, Bizarro, Cyvborg Superman, Mongul, etc. Eventually, the action would shift to Braniac's ship, ending in an epic confrontation with Braniac. What would give the game extra depth would be that the city levels offer the opportunity for side missions along the way.

Gotta be Doomsday! The epic battle between Superman and Doomsday truly defined Superman's resurgence in the early 1990s (for all you 90s kids out there, you know what I'm talking about!). Doomsday almost seemed like an unstoppable beast, and is a solid contender for Superman. The storyline of Superman and Doomsday was EPIC, and really showed Superman's humanity. I think a great scenario would be for Doomsday to have just demolished the Justice League and Superman, having just witnessed this, is ready to kick some tail.

Mr. Mxyzptlk is sick and he is dying. In the past, Mr. Mxyzptlk only wanted to cause mischief, and cause problems for Superman that were usually only for his amusement, and not sinister. However, now that he is dying, Mr. Mxyzptlk wants to truly make Superman suffer for all the times that he has humiliated him and sent him back to the fifth dimension. Mxyzptlk warps reality into a nightmarish landscape filled with Superman's greatest fears, and weaknesses. What Mxyzptlk doesn't know is that his powers have limits, and he's changed reality so much, that existence itself is beginning to deteriorate. In the game, Superman must traverse the new nightmare that is reality, so as to find the dying Mxyzptlk, and figure out a way to send him back to the fifth dimension, and make reality right again. On his journey, Superman encounters a number of Mxyzptlk's creations that he must battle, and he still has to protect the lives of those that are in danger.

I'd like to see the Silver Age Titano used as a villian/boss. I think this would work especially well in an iPad game. You could have the giant ape reeking havoc through Metropolis with the action culminating atop the Daily Planet in a King Kong-esque climax. Honestly, who wouldn't love see Super-Man and a giant ape with kryptonite eye beams duke it out on top of a skyscraper.

It would be cool to see Superman throw down with Superboy Prime. It could be a multi-part battle with Superboy-Prime - superman would take his life down to a certain point, then he'd use his solar suit to recharge and you'd have to fight him using a different strategy. Like the first round you have to use you heat vision to stun him, then pummel him, then the next round you'd use freeze breath to stun him then pummel him, etc. (kind of like how you use specific items to stun villains in the Arkham games). I think it would be cool to use Superboy-prime because he and superman have a similar power set and he is a character fans love to hate, so why wouldn't you want to use him as a villain? For an entire game, I think the main focus would obviously need to be having superman save earth from some grave threat - like a multiversal level threat. That way you can potentially use non-superman specific villains in addition to superman's rogues. You could also introduce other DC heroes in certain parts, which is always a good idea! I think for this particular battle it would be cool to see them square off in the middle of metropolis after superboy-prime kills conner, so Superman is also equally revved up and ready to throw down.

I would love to see a Superman game feature Darkseid. He is a villain capable of going toe to toe with superman and one that (if it followed a similar plot to Final Crisis) could make other super powered foes for you to fight. So the main focus of the game would be fighting the villains (of course) but also it would have you making tough decisions which is what Superman is all about after all, and Darkseid allows for that I feel.

PS I am based in the US if it says UK in your systems that is because I made the account there and am writing it from the UK as I am on holiday atm. Please don't exempt me from this contest because of this :D.

In my dream Superman game, the villain would be someone not typically associated with Superman, Eclipso. Eclipso, having the power to mind control people, would present a new challenge to Superman that we haven't seen in his video games. It would also present a somewhat more magical or whimsical enemy than Superman's usual rogue's gallery. Maybe, during a rare total solar eclipse in Metropolis, Eclipso finally breaks free from a magical moon prison and comes to Earth to wreak havoc. He changes people into his minions, but more than that he empowers them, turning them into hulking monsters. Lois Lane, at the forefront of the conflict, is taken by Eclipso and turned into his powerful lieutenant, making the battle very personal for Superman. Unfortunately, the cackling Eclipso isn't just someone Superman can take out with his fists due to his magical nature. He'll need to collect shards of the magical black gemstone used to seal the evil once and for all. Near the beginning, the player would lose all their powers in an direct assault against Eclipso, and would regain them one by one facing off against different bosses. Each boss would represent would emphasize a stolen power, such as Heat Vision, Freeze Breath, and culminating in Flight. While all of this is happening, Eclipso is changing Metropolis into his image, a skyline of strange looking blue buildings in weird shapes, and the sky itself turning a deep purple hue. The final battle takes place in the changed Daily Planet Building, adorned with a giant black and purple globe resembling Eclipso's symbol. Dramatic stuff.

In my dream Superman game, Superman would be trapped in the bottled city of Kandor. The unique architecture of a Kryptonian city would be an interesting counterpoint to Batman's Arkham City. The main bad guy would be General Zod and a collection of Phantom Zone criminals who have besieged Kandor. There would be a section of the game where Superman must journey into the Phantom Zone and team up with Mon-El. Ultimately, Superman must defeat Zod and escape Kandor before he becomes trapped there forever.

Titano has invaded Metropolis, taken Lois hostage, and the lead glasses preventing his kryptonite vision aren't working! It's up to Superman to take him down while avoiding his deadly rays! Superman can't fly or else he would get hit with the beam. He has to traverse the wreckage on the streets and find a way to stop him without dying himself. And what is better than a giant gorilla with kryptonite eye beams, nothing!

I will be quite honest now. The ultimate Superman villain that I would love to see face off against the Man of Steel in my dream video game would be William Matthews, AKA Gog. The reason for why I would wish Matthews to fight Superman is I truly think Gog gave the Man of Tomorrow one of his greatest physical and emotional challenges to his supremacy in light of the Wrath of Gog and In the Name of Gog storylines. My dream game would follow more or less the style of what those stories entailed, with the Man of Steel fighting this super being who appears out of nowhere and essentially has powers created due to the perverted scheme of time travel in Gog's sad but critical attempt to try and prevent the death of his parents. In the end the Man of Steel becomes the focus of Gog's hatred realizing that no amount of time travel will allow him to save his parents and instead save his emotions toward hating the man he felt should have saved them when Kansas was destroyed by Imperiex. It is a multi-character story where I could see one easily being put into the role the Man of Steel fighting against Gog and his followers, and could if the story is followed even allow for Doomsday play when he leads the Army of Supermen in the future in the attempt to destroy Matthews. I just think this scenario makes for a game because you have not just the action available but a dramatic and tragic tale to follow as well.

My dream Superman game would be a Superman/Batman World's Finest game. Basically there would be two sides of the same story - one told from Superman's perspective, the other Batman's. Much like the World's Finest animated movie, Lex Luthor and the Joker would team up for some outrageous scheme, and while Batman and Superman are on the trail of their respective nemeses, they eventually cross paths and have a classic comic book hero battle. I've always loved stories about them meeting for the first time, and in game form it would be so much fun. Superman may think Batman's methods are too rough and try to stop him, while Batman would be incredibly non-trusting of Superman and try to get him out of his way in his quest to stop the Joker. To be clear, neither Batman nor Superman would be under mind-control or anything. This would be the meeting of these two icons that have very different means to achieving the same ends. And i would love to see Superman (and the player) being humbled by Batman's ingenuity and skills, even though Superman has such a ridiculous power set. And Batman would obviously not object to using Kryptonite to keep Superman at bay.

I'd like to see Darkseid as the ultimate bad guy in a video game. He's the perfect embodiment of sinister scheming in comic books; he's got a brooding throne, a creepy entourage, brilliant staff, and insane amounts of power. the game would be sand box open world Metropolis with a battle system not unlike modern 3D DBZ, but with leveling up. Game would have "missions" that progress the story (story devised by Darkseid of course) culminating in the Pure Energy Superman form from All-Star. While Superman's fixing the Sun (sick minigames and puzzles), Darkseid conquers Earth. When Superman returns, he's in an open world sandbox futuristic military state with stealth missions, Jailbreak missions, recruitment missions, etc. Final battle with Darkseid on Apokolips.

Dream Superman game?

Mortal Combat vs Dc Universe style, but the storyline will focus on the 90's PANIC IN THE SKY storyline. SO MONGUL would be the main villain. You would have a roster of 8 JLA'ers and 8 villains on Warworld. Each character would have a backstory as to how they fit in the Panic in the Sky storyline.

Superman Allies:

Superman,Batman, Captain Marvel, Deathstroke,Guy Gardner,Blue beetle,Booster Gold,Fire,Ice

Villians

Lex Luthor, Lobo, Sinestro, Cyborg Superman,Mongal,Star Sapphire, Kalibak,Mongul, Brainiac

So build of the success of the original DC vs MK game, mix in this storyline and characters you very well could have the greatest comic book game ever!!

mrfuzzynutz FTW!

hahaha

I'd like to see Zod as the main villain. I think it would be awesome if Zod, knowing Superman cared so much for humans, attacks different locations across the Earth with his Phantom Zone allies. I think Zod would be great as the villain because he's a military leader so he would know how to move his troops around the Earth to really push Superman to his limits. I think open world would be great for different locations because who doesn't want to fly around as Superman? The cities and other place you go should also be able to be destroyed, so if you punch an enemy into a building it leaves a hole where they landed. The main focus of the game would be stopping all the Phantom Zoners and Zod before Earth itself it destroyed.

In the comments below, submit a villain and scenario you'd like to see in your dream Superman game. Write a paragraph (a few sentences) explaining which villain you'd like to see, why that particular villain and what the main focus of your game would be like.

The Justice League. Something happens where the other members of the Justice League believe that Superman has gone rogue and must take him down. Imagine it, each level could have various major heroes as end-level bosses with their sidekicks or even normal citizens serving as the in-level adversaries. There could be cut scenes further explaining whatever confusion or circumstances caused this rift, and Superman would plunge deeper and deeper into trouble redeeming his good name.Perhaps after you defeat each hero you actually recruit them to your side, and can play with /as them. And of course, Batman would be the penultimate "villain" to fight, only to discover that the final villain was no major Superman arch-fiend, but some average misanthrope who used the power of misinformation to cause it all, all for some petty grudge.

I'm sorry, no one here is even addressing the one character that has the true balls to stand up to a being such as superman, not only stand up but also has the intelligence and the resources to get away with anything he wanted to in regards to superman. That character is BATMAN. I would love to see a video game where BATMAN is perceived by superman to be the antagonist. This would not only allow the player to utilize any of superman's naturally given powers, but also use his finely honed investigative journalistic skills (asking questions to the right people as Clark Kent) culminating in finding out that BATMAN had some ulterior motive that affects not only him, but superman and everyone else, there fore exonerating him. That would be a fantastic superman game

In my dream Superman game you would be fighting Zod and an army of invading Kryptonians brainwashed under his control. The end battle would take place high above an embattled Metropolis as you fly up towards Zod command ship. This would be the end of the game where you discover Zod is using Kryptonian technology found inside the Phantom Zone and rebuilt as war machines. You fly up in the sky towards Zod and the command ship fighting through waves of Kryptonians, Kryptonian war machines, and mechs. Through the battle, unbeknownst to you and the other Kryptonians, Lex Luthor has been setting up a machine to reverse the newly power Kryptonians. Once Luthor's machine goes off you are depowered as well. You and Zod have a brutal fight to the end all while depowered and also trapped inside the command ship which is free falling to Earth's surface. Once you defeat Zod you realize Luthor was reversing the powers just so he could take on the Man of Steel, potentially setting up a sequel. The original voice actors from the Superman animated series would be brought on for voice work.

In a Superman game, I would love to play a giant villian like Galactus. I know he's Marvel, but it would be really fun to fly around him as he's trying to swat you and smash him in the face and see him fall down on buildings and all that. It would be really fun, and feel like a large scenario with all the citizens running wild and going crazy. Anytime there's Galactus, everybody else looks like flies and that sounds fun to me. Anywas, I would really love to win this drawing, I would be stoked! Please?? Thanks!

OK, how about this. The game would be about Superman going through alternate realities and time lines. Like a Spider-man's Shattered Dimensions type of thing. So you would have Superman in his original costume, a Smallville level, Superboy from Superboy's Legion, there would be a Flashpoint level, and eventually one of the levels would be Kingdom Come. In this level future Superman would team up with future Batman, team up with future Wonder Woman, and have a giant fight with future Captain Marvel!

I would like to see General Zod in my dream game. Zod has all of the same powers as Superman with none of the morals. The fights would be action packed and force you to use your full array of abilities. Zod also cares little for human life so there would be plenty of side missions and saving the good citizens of Metropolis. This confrontation could even allow for a team up with Lex Luthor which would make some interesting co-op! I am also a huge fan of alternate costumes and achievements. Players should be rewarded for certain acts and taking time out of their day to fight the good fight. As for the layout I would like to see a sandbox design, but with many different locales. With Zod the whole Earth would be in peril, not just Metropolis. Taking the fight into space would open up even more windows.

The Fifth Dimensional imp QWSP would be a perfect villain to counter superman in a game. As a 5-D creature he has powers that outstrip Superman’s, thus he would have to be clever to beat him; or even require some help to do so. Starting the story out with QWSP breaking out of his 5-D prison and desiring revenge on his fellows he attacks them. He somehow overwhelms them and becomes their ruler. Simply becoming bored afterwards, due to a lack of challenge, QWSP summons Superman to the Fifth Dimension and forces him to play his games. QWSP is a seldom used character so there is a lot to do with him in either fleshing him out or making him a simple mad-man for Superman to beat.

I see this game as a puzzle game. As this is still Superman the game should be something like a 3-d or 2-d puzzle platformer, as opposed to a straight puzzle game. Superman should be able to express his abilities to fly as well as Heat Vision, his Super-Senses and Super Breath/Freeze Breath; the rest of his abilities being limited by his environment. The game would generally focus on QWSP throwing superman into puzzles, becoming more convoluted as they go on. Due to the nature of both 5-D space and QWSP’s powers Superman would be facing an ever-changing world, where gravity, space and time are constantly shifting from one puzzle to another or even during a single puzzle. As superman is now stranded in non-linear space in a plane where other universes are also present he could assume new powers to combat the scenarios he’s placed in. Given the fact that he is an advanced being of great intellect and understanding you could even slowly grant him the same powers as other imps. Another byproduct of the environment would be an intersection of other supermen from other universes which could be incorporated as a neat background gimmick or even part of gameplay, by having good supermen help and the bad doing the opposite. Superman’s primary goals would be to get home as well as setting things straight in the Fifth Dimension.

In my dream Superman Game, Ultraman would be the main villain. It would be interesting to explore DC's multiverse with a game that has Superman trying to stop alternate versions of himself with the final villain behind the mess being Ultraman. The game could have side stories of other heroes fighting their counterparts as well as team-ups between Superman and other members of the league. His powers would all be intact since most of the antagonists in the story will be alternate versions of himself. Ultraman's reason for all of this could be to distract Superman long enough to make Superman's world his own. Other popular Superman villains could be featured as well as minor bosses when the discover what is happening and want to help take Superman Down. It would be nice to see a story that challenges Superman more than Kryptonite and to see his character develop as he sees himself in another light. I do enjoy how Batman Arkham City was done and if this game was similar it could be an interesting story plot.

My dream Superman game? It'd start with the Superman-Doomsday fight, ending with Superman's death. One of those "can't win" fights in the beginning of a video game, you know? The rest of the game would probably be split between playing with all the "possible Supermen" (Superboy, Hank Henshaw, Eradicator, Steel) until a final triumphant return of Superman. Mostly because I'd prefer to play as all of them than ol' Clark.
