Comic Vine Battle of the Week: Catman/Deadshot vs. Punisher/Bullseye

It's time for the segment's first 2v2 and it's between some absolutely vicious combatants.

The former members of Secret Six (oh, how I miss that book so much) take on two formidable combatants from the Marvel universe. Both teams have characters with stellar accuracy (Bullseye/Deadshot) and talented fighters with absurd pain tolerance (Punisher/Catman).

Floyd Lawton's sporting incredible aim and his costume will let him take some extra damage (keep in mind, he does indeed pull his shots against Batman, too). The man alleges he can see the individual flaps of a hummingbird's wings and has proven he can tag a speedster, after all. That said, Lester is the character with more skill in close range and has displayed a more frequent use of ricochet shots (not to mention he has indeed blocked a single bullet on at least three occasions). However, Lester does tend to play around from time to time and that could be a huge wildcard against a man who won't hesitate going for a lethal shot.

Meanwhile, Catman's "style is for idiots" mentality has served him extraordinarily well and his ability to endure damage is quite impressive. He's humiliated Tim Drake, given Batman a good bout across rooftops and has technically stalemated Bronze Tiger ( to be fair, BT did say he underestimated Blake at first). Additionally, he's not limited to close range. There have been a few examples of him using daggers and other bladed weapons as throwing weapons, so we'll operate under the assumption he has those here as well. On the other hand, Frank has had the skill and tactics to hang with a wide variety of Marvel's characters and, just like Catman, has endured absolutely insane amounts of punishment over the years.

It's easy to assume they'll pair off this way, but while thinking about this match, be sure to speculate how the fight would play out if they switched enemies, too. No matter which team wins, I imagine the victors will be walking away with some serious injuries.

Comic Vine Battle of the Week Rules

  • Combatants are in character (Punisher/Bullseye will not intentionally try to harm one another. They aren't forced to work together, but they will not purposely attack each other).
  • This is a random encounter.
  • They're fighting in a generic downtown city setting. It's unpopulated and at night. Assume they start roughly 50 feet apart and visible. There's a fair amount of cover between them.
  • Both characters have standard gear (For Bullseye, assume this includes sais and a variety of throwing objects and blades).
  • Incapacitation, knockout or death all count as elimination.

Voting will remain open until this Friday morning (ET) and a new article will go on the homepage shortly after. Please keep in mind voting remains open for 5 days so you can research characters and read the debates presented for both sides. I know it's easy to vote for the characters you like more, but please try to have adequate information on both sides before casting your vote.

Friday's update will include one Viner's argument for the winning team (only posts in the poll thread will be considered and it can't be a scan fest), the staff's thoughts and if we're extra lucky, thoughts from writers, artists and others in the industry! Viners, it's understandable that debates over "who would win?" can get heated, but please try to keep the conversations informative and not personal.

Feel free to make future match suggestions in the comments below or via Gregg's Twitter page.

I like Catman and Deadshot more, but they would lose hands down.

Does Catman even exist anymore?

If I'm Deadshot and I see Punisher stood fifty feet away all tooled up I'm not taking any chances and Mr. Castle is getting a headshot before he has a chance to move.

This leaves Bullseye left to deal with Deadshot and Catman. Deadshot keeps Bullseye pinned down whilst Catman gets in close. Even with his skills Bullesye can't effectively fight Catman without presenting an opportunity for Deadshot to either take him out or seriously incapacitate him in which case Catman can finish him off.

I'm going for a Deadshot and Catman win.

Catman would probably die in two seconds and this whole fight would be 2 on 1, so I'm going with Punisher and Bullseye.

I'm leaning toward Bullseye/Punisher because of the added firepower, but then I've read nothing of Catman since a 1980's Batman comic.

Think Bullseye has the edge over Deadshot in both crazy skills and fun.

I'm only familiar with old school Catman, but he seems like he's the weak link here. Isn't he a melee character mixed in with what are primarily ranged opponents?

Unless he has some showings against ranged enemies, I'd call it for Frank and Bully. Even if he does close in, both of them are pretty darn capable hand to hand combatants as well.

Check out Secret Six. It's definitely Gail Simone's best work to date.

Catman isn't the weak link by a long shot. He'll close the gap no problem. It's debatable whether he even gets hit, but if he does he's fully capable of tanking a bullet or two. Either Frank or Bullseye will be forced to settle this up close and personal. They're no slouches at hand-to-hand to be sure, but range is not really an advantage vs. Catman.

As the article also points out, Catman is pretty adept with his knifes as well, but he's at his strongest up close. Unless I'm Deadshot, I don't want to get into a range fight with Bullseye and I don't think Catman would settle for that.

Honestly? Deadshot solos or does enough damage that will allow Catman to seal it.Though Blake is definitely the weak link here.

I expect to see you defend that statement in the poll, sir! Floyd is apparently not receiving nearly as much respect as he deserves.

Deadshot will be outshone by Bullseye. And if Bullseye went up against Catman, who has very limited range capabilities by the looks of it he's a goner. Which would leave a fairly simple two vs one scenario. I'm biased, as I despise Deadshot as character.

This one was tough. Literally 4 of my absolute favorite characters. Still I have to go with team Punisher/Bullseye. Floyd's good but I still think Bullseye would be more skilled. Punisher would beat Catman simply due to his endurance and stamina. Frank is like the Michael Myers of comics.

Frank & Lester for sure, both are pretty versatile characters capable of greak marksmanship and brutal H2H, Lester even has adamantium laced skull and fists so pressumably he should be superior in close combat than Catman. Now, don't get me wrong Floyd and Catman have amazing feats i just think they have more pre-defined roles in the fight while Frank and Bullseye's versatility gives them the edge, and since both won't hesitate to kill they'll probably turn that advantage into a pair of unmarked graves.

What he said. It's Team Punisher/ Bullseye who wins
