Comic Vine Battle of the Week: Catman/Deadshot vs. Punisher/Bullseye

It's time for the segment's first 2v2 and it's between some absolutely vicious combatants.

The former members of Secret Six (oh, how I miss that book so much) take on two formidable combatants from the Marvel universe. Both teams have characters with stellar accuracy (Bullseye/Deadshot) and talented fighters with absurd pain tolerance (Punisher/Catman).

Floyd Lawton's sporting incredible aim and his costume will let him take some extra damage (keep in mind, he does indeed pull his shots against Batman, too). The man alleges he can see the individual flaps of a hummingbird's wings and has proven he can tag a speedster, after all. That said, Lester is the character with more skill in close range and has displayed a more frequent use of ricochet shots (not to mention he has indeed blocked a single bullet on at least three occasions). However, Lester does tend to play around from time to time and that could be a huge wildcard against a man who won't hesitate going for a lethal shot.

Meanwhile, Catman's "style is for idiots" mentality has served him extraordinarily well and his ability to endure damage is quite impressive. He's humiliated Tim Drake, given Batman a good bout across rooftops and has technically stalemated Bronze Tiger ( to be fair, BT did say he underestimated Blake at first). Additionally, he's not limited to close range. There have been a few examples of him using daggers and other bladed weapons as throwing weapons, so we'll operate under the assumption he has those here as well. On the other hand, Frank has had the skill and tactics to hang with a wide variety of Marvel's characters and, just like Catman, has endured absolutely insane amounts of punishment over the years.

It's easy to assume they'll pair off this way, but while thinking about this match, be sure to speculate how the fight would play out if they switched enemies, too. No matter which team wins, I imagine the victors will be walking away with some serious injuries.

Comic Vine Battle of the Week Rules

  • Combatants are in character (Punisher/Bullseye will not intentionally try to harm one another. They aren't forced to work together, but they will not purposely attack each other).
  • This is a random encounter.
  • They're fighting in a generic downtown city setting. It's unpopulated and at night. Assume they start roughly 50 feet apart and visible. There's a fair amount of cover between them.
  • Both characters have standard gear (For Bullseye, assume this includes sais and a variety of throwing objects and blades).
  • Incapacitation, knockout or death all count as elimination.

Voting will remain open until this Friday morning (ET) and a new article will go on the homepage shortly after. Please keep in mind voting remains open for 5 days so you can research characters and read the debates presented for both sides. I know it's easy to vote for the characters you like more, but please try to have adequate information on both sides before casting your vote.

Friday's update will include one Viner's argument for the winning team (only posts in the poll thread will be considered and it can't be a scan fest), the staff's thoughts and if we're extra lucky, thoughts from writers, artists and others in the industry! Viners, it's understandable that debates over "who would win?" can get heated, but please try to keep the conversations informative and not personal.

Feel free to make future match suggestions in the comments below or via Gregg's Twitter page.

@frogjitsu: Heh Thor vs Black Adam. That's one I would make a hella arguement for.

Catman and Deadshot win this.

Scenario A) Bullseye brags about never missing. Maybe Deadshot does too. Five seconds into the fight, they kill each other with headshots/heartshots/they make sure the other guy is dead. Catman gets close to Punisher, takes a few shots, but mauls Frank. Those shots might not even hit Catman, so it could be that Frank just takes the wrong end of a savage beating. Catman also has the advantage of having range and agility over Frank. Catman can hit him with knives, because Frank isn't that fast, while Frank can't do the same back because Catman can dodge bullets. So yeah, Catman walks out as the only one alive.

Scenario B) Punisher turns and kills Bullseye (because Frank wouldn't do anything else). Deadshot shoots Punisher.

@usabfb: *psst* CatMAN, not woman ;)

This fight comes down to teamwork. Catman & Deadshot have it, Bulls & Punisher don't. Bullseye isn't allowed to kill Frank in this one, but given their history, I doubt he would go out of his way to prevent Frank's demise, either.

@k4tzm4n: Since everybodys making requests for the next battle I propose Jonah Hex/Lone Ranger quick draw duel

Catman and Deadshot, for sure. They routinely had to deal with the Batman; those other clowns didn't. End of story.

This fight can go either way, TBH, but if I had to choose, I would give the small edge to Deadshot and Catman. Catman is one tough SOB. Not only did he give Batman a good, short fight, but he gave Bronze Tiger hell as well. Catman under Gail Simone is pretty uber street leveler.

close one to call, i think punisher would take the edge against catman but because bullseye seems to favour throwing objects (i know he can use guns as well but he rarely seems to carry them), he cannot match up to deadshots range or reflexes, could see deadshot ending this with 2 simultaneous kill shots (that would be cool), but honestly think catman is very underestimated, so for me its deadshot/catman

catman has some skills but is reckless and impatient....deadshot is skilled but id say no better than bullseye and certainly not as quick on his feet as frank...

punishers adaptability + bullseyes skills = FLAWLESS VICTORY

All I can say with true certainty is I DEFINITELY do not wanna be in midst of that fight when it goes down O_O

Well Bullseye has an adamantium skull. So if him and Deadshot went for head shots, Bullseye has an unfair advantage.

@omgomgwtfwtf: Pretty sure its just lacing on his spine, not his entire skull.

Nearly the entirety of his skeleton has been replaced with adamantium.

@omgomgwtfwtf: I mean he only says its laced...though I guess given the context, it seems like his entire skull is covered in adamantium.

Well I did not know that, thanks for sharing.

@texasdeathmatch:

The only thing not laced in adamantium are his shins and some of his ribs. The amount of beatings Lester has taken over the years is beyond human norms.

il go bull eye and pun shier. Better hand to hand and almost equally from long range

Punisher/Bullseye for sure. Punisher has taken out the entire Marvel universe once. Bullseye on the other hand could throw a freaking pebble and take out heroes. He is now indestructible because of the Adamantium fused to his bones. Punisher can annihilate Catman in a fight. He has taken down entire gangs using hand to hand skills.

You can't trust the Punisher to team up Bullseye....hell, he's going to kill each of them. Only person might give him a run for his money is Deadshot if he's smart enough. Punisher all the way despite the rules of him not engaging against Bullseye. He's the most deadliest psychotic in comics. Killing machine who doesn't mind dying the process of killing someone.

Punisher quickly elimintes Catman from a distance while Bullseye takes out Deadshot....with a playing card...

Punisher and Deadshot, easily. Deadshot and Bullseye would stalemate, but Bullseye has more resistance to headshots due to, as @omgomgwtfwtf pointed out, his Adamantium skull. And Punisher of course owns Catman.
