Comic Book Question of the Week Results: Which DC Character Deserves a Feature Film?

What does the Comic Vine community want to see after the next DC movie? Aquaman? Wonder Woman? Another shot at the Green Lantern universe?

DC is finally playing catch up when it comes to establishing a shared universe on the big screen. Leaving Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy in the past (we have no idea if they'll recognize Green Lantern), the studio utilized Man of Steel to spawn a new location for all of its properties to play -- and by "play" we mean fight and such. The sequel to Man of Steel won't hit until 2015 and a movie surrounding Barry Allen is allegedly slated to come after that, but we were curious: who would you want to get a movie after Big Blue and the Dark Knight share the screen in 2015? There's dozens of characters who could be the focus of a film, but to keep things simple and practical, we limited the poll's options to individuals who could help build the hype towards a potential Justice League movie. Well, the verdict is in and Wonder Woman absolutely dominated the poll. Seriously, she earned 42% of the votes.

No Caption Provided

Some think a Wonder Woman movie is "complicated" and difficult to create, but come on, really? Marvel's introducing a talking space Raccoon who carries around massive firearms next year. Oh, and his teammate is a giant, talking tree. So, is diving into an easy to understand mythos with Gods really too complex for people to grasp compared to something like an alien who soaks in the sun for super-powers? Or a fleet of space cops with rings powered by the user's will? Sure, they may have to make some changes here and there to the mythos (which is often expected when translating source material to films), but there's no reason to believe it's a concept that can't work.

For further proof a Wonder Woman movie can work, just check out the animated film. It's disputably one of top efforts from DC Animation and there's no reason to believe they couldn't duplicate that level of awesomeness to the big screen. Wonder Woman is DC's biggest female character and, if they're expanding the DC cinematic universe, she deserves a spot and a chance for the world to learn more about her. As for the "well, Catwoman and Elektra didn't work" argument: let's be honest, they didn't work because they're really, really bad movies. If they bring their A-game with this one and do a proper job marketing it, it shouldn't be a failure. It's that simple.

Anyway, here's the full poll results.

Hey Viners, did Wonder Woman earn your support, and if so, why do you think her movie would be all kinds of epic? Or, did another hero earn your vote? Be sure to tell us who did and why.

Check the homepage next Tuesday for an all-new Question of the Week! Do you have a suggestion for a topical or superb question for the feature? Post it below it tell Gregg via Twitter.

In all honesty a WW movie has little to no potential for a great movie. I mean think about it, she has no iconic villains, no great storylines, and she's very boring as a character. Hell her animated movie didn't sell fast enough to warrant sequels according to the producers and her books struggle to avoid cancellation. Considering how expensive it is to produce superhero movies these days, they won't be willing to take a chance on an unprofitable franchise, especially after the Green Lantern debacle. She can't even carry a TV pilot while Green Arrow and a minor character from Avengers can have a successful show.

There are many other DC characters with more appeal and accessibility like the Teen Titans who've proven they can be successful in the mainstream.

There are no sidekicks established in the DCU, so you cannot do Teen Titans yet. And she has plenty of iconic villains and storylines.

But how many of does villains are known outside of the comicbook fandom? There's Cheetah , Ares and maybe Circe.Thats about it.Hell most people will probably only remember Doctor Psycho as some crazy guy they fought in DCU online. On a Superman misson. So yeah.

And Flash, Aquaman, Iron Man, Captain America, and Green Lantern have more well known villains?

I never said they did.I'm saying that Wonderwoman doesn't.Should that bar her from getting a movie.No.But he does have a point in saying that a large chunk of WW's rouge gallery are unknown to the mainsteam audience.

Everyone's complaining about how "a Wonder Woman movie will never work because [Insert disputable reason here]". I say that we'll never know until they try. I think that if WB puts forth the effort that they did in the Dark Knight Trilogy and Man of Steel, we could potentially have a great movie. Sure, it could flop just as easily as Green Lantern did, but we'll never know until we try, right? I say go for it, WB.

I'd like to see a movie not centring, but shot from Cyborg's 'point-of-view'. I think this would make for some really interesting observations of the other Justice Leaguers, and could work as a great introduction to them. Cyborg has access to all of the camera's and surveillance in the world. He seems to have a good relationship with Flash, respect from Batman, etc...

Pants would make more sense in the sequel when she is used to man's world. She needs to start off with the Warrior Skirt

  • Cast Jamie Alexander or an unknown as WonderWoman -- the actress must be at least 5'9", a Brunette and have light coloured eyes.

Jamie Alexander or Lynn Collins (based on John Carter) would be great for the role.

@pokeysteve I call BS on the RR not being a complex character. He has one of the best, complex, original stories ever. If the GOTG movie touches even half his story it would be amazing.

People need to really stop with the WW, Thor comparisons. Ther are many reasons Thor is the easier sell.

1. Thor is a male.

2.The NAME Thor is not near cheesy as WW.

3. Powers. WW has your basic superstrenth, flight, invulnirabilty. Thor has those amd plenty of other powers to make him stand out.

I know im bout to make enemys but WWs lame. GA dont like her. Niche fanboys do.

WW has only made it far as she has because she was the first lady of comics. That is her sales pitch, nothing more. But even that novelty has worn off.

After the obvious Wonder Woman film I would love a Katar and Shiera film which tried to do some sort of Cloud Atlus like story where it touches upon all of there reincarnations, but of course that is probably far to ambitious.

@k4tzm4n:

It makes me happy you made the Rocket Raccoon and Groot comparison, how Marvel can believe they can make that work but DC head scratches at Wonder Woman is beyond me.

I think Black Canary could be good too, and her powers don't require great CGI or expenditures, if DC doesn't feel confident in a female lead heroes drawing power.

Yuuuuuuuup. To be fair, though, Marvel Studios has had years to develop a fanbase. They're at a point where they can take "risks," but that's the thing... Wonder Woman shouldn't even be viewed as a "risk" for a studio.

exactly. with other recent movies the script has to sell the audience the villain... but frankly, there is no sell with a WonderWoman movie villain since most of the western world is at least vaguely familiar with the pantheon of Olympic gods -- so if you tell them that Ares, the god of war, is her baddy they'll have no problem with with that. if anything, she's at an advantage in terms of her arch-enemy compared to other characters.

Not nearly as complex or original as she is. Perez's version anyways. New 52 Wonder Woman is straight from the cookie cutter.

I agree about WW being most deserving of a feature film.

Of all the characters listed, Aquaman is my favorite but I still can't believe he received the second highest percentage of votes.

Aquaman and Flash would be the ones I REALLY want to see.

Wonderwoman probably deserves it most though.
