Comic Book Question of the Week Results: Which DC Character Deserves a Feature Film?

Only IF its Azzarello's Wonder Woman not that Superman dating Wonder Woman.

Wonder Woman is the most obvious choice. Batman and Superman having already been introduced, Wonder Woman is the most important person to be introduced next.

I want nothing more than a Flash movie.

We all knew WW would win, but I'm really glad Aquaman got as far as he did. As I said in the voting thread, he needs a chance to prove to the public that he's not a joke.

I love superman and Wonder Woman together! It inspired me to collect all of her new 52 back issues which are really excellent! And her movie should be easy enough to make considering how well Thor did at the box office.

I wish Comic Vine gave more time to vote, I feel bad that Cyborg only has 1% when I feel like he would be one of the better characters to make a movie for. But I don't blame people, after all DC doesn't seem to want to do anything with Cyborg despite him having lots of potential to be a great character.

I completely agree. Even in the Justice League books, he seems like a Token Black guy. And being Black myself I usually don't throw that word around. There was even a page where someone(can't remember who) asked cyborg what does he do all day...

he literally said something like, "nothing much, just chill at the Watch Tower and teleport the JL where we need to go....

Cyborg is the last person who needs a movie. I'm all for a Wonder Woman movie.

I honestly don't think a standalone Wonder Woman movie will happen for a while, at least not until Marvel pull off a successful female-led movie to show that it can be done (they are far more risk-happy as a film company than DC, just look at GotG). Catwoman and Elektra were huge flops, so any studio will be wary of a superheroine movie where she's not part of an otherwise male-dominated team. It's not that I'm promoting this state of affairs, it's just that that's the way the movie industry works. Also, the universally negative reaction to the TV pilot does not help WW's chances.

That being said, I voted GL anyway, just because I really, really want a John Stewart movie.

DC shouldn't do anything. The more they try to be like marvel the more its gonna show their not. I think GL and MOS failed because the GA has no intrest in DCs lineup.

A Aquaman would bomb worst than GL. GA opinion of him is a big joke.

Just because a hand full of fans like him doesn't mean a movie is warranted.

WW is the logical choice:

- Only member of the trinity without a solo film

- WB hasn't done much to promote gender equality in their DC films

I firmly believe they can make a really amazing Wonder Woman movie. I'd also love a Green Lantern reboot please.

I wish DC would read the bit you mentioned about the animated movie being a good template for translating to the big screen.
If only they did that with GL: First Flight. That is the GL movie we needed to have. Keep it off Earth (for the most part. Hal can go back to Earth at the end and that would lead into future DC films), show more development with Sinestro and their history, and keep Parallax out of the first film.
I really wanted to love that show but I was let down.

I really hope DC steps it up with the other movies and ties it all together into one universe. TDK trilogy was good, but did not feed into a bigger universe (I know that was Nolan's intent, but it didn't do any favors for the development of a unified DC movie universe). MOS was also very good, but WB/DC played it too safe with the development of a bigger universe. They needed to have faith in the characters and show bigger potential tie ins with other DC characters.

who came up with the idea that characters like MM, hawkgirl and cyborg should have individuals films, hello these are team based characters not solo acts. next time pick characters that started out solo like hawkman, atom, firestorm etc.

Someone made a comment about them trying to be marvel the more it shows they're not,well damn right they're not! They are backed by big sh*t Warner bros whose track record with adventure/comic films is pretty damn good . And making film/TV projects with their heros goes back to the 30s/40s with DC comics so...I am pretty confident DC can do it right.

I chose wonder woman. I like they character, and she's a heavy hitter in the dc universe. And I don't just like wonder woman because of her admittedly spectacular looks, I love wonder woman because she is strong, relatable, and interesting. I was raised largely by my mom, and my step mother( dad is a truck driver, didn't abandon me, just gone a lot.) so I've never had a shortage of female role models. So when I watched the Wonder Woman animated movie, I fell in love with the character.

However, I was a little reluctant with my vote, if for no other reason than if it is done, it's got to be done right. I HATED Green Lantern, and I don't want that to happen to wonder woman. Also there is the feminism. I'M ALL FOR MALE/FEMALE EQUALITY!!! Just to be clear, but some feminist characters are written like that hate men, more than they want equality. Wonder Woman is a strong believer that their is equality, and I'm worried they might ruin Diana by making her a man hater.

If there is a wonder woman movie, it has to be done like Man Of Steel. Meaning, it has to be respectful to the character, her personality, and her mythos.

A WonderWoman movie is essentially a Thor movie; It CAN be done. The movie just has to be treated as carefully as Thor was treated and have the right creative talent attached to it.

• Cast Jamie Alexander or an unknown as WonderWoman -- the actress must be at least 5'9", a Brunette and have light coloured eyes.
• get Gail Simone to work with Joss Whedon, Bruce Timm and *maybe* Azzarello on the script.
• get an accomplished Director familiar with working with strong female characters; James Cameron (Terminator), Ridley Scott (Alien/s), Len Wiseman (Underworld), David Fincher (Girl with the Dragon Tatoo), Joss Whedon (Buffy TVS), even Zack Synder (Man of Steel, Sucker Punch)

4 Rules to make a successful WonderWoman movie:

1. Don't be afraid to be true to the source material -- it doesn't need to be reworked excessively to work in a movie. Keep the iconic sculpted from clay origin and the Greek mythological aspects. She's the Princess of the Amazons and the emissary of her people to "man's world" too. the 2009 animated movie is a great template to start from.
2. Keep the iconic costume (for the most part) -- Ancient Greek warriors didn't wear much and she doesn't need much protection anyhow, so that's fine -- but don't cheapen it or sexualize it. It'll sell itself without it needing to be pushed.
3. It's not a romance movie. Have a male lead (Steve Trevor is iconic) but don't base the movie on that or let anyone turn it into an episode of Ally McBeel. ps. There is no relationship between Superman and WonderWoman
4. Have fun! Like Thor did, find a balance between taking the material seriously and treating it with respect but acknowledge the typically unbelievable stuff and work with it.

the example you're making of the tv pilot -- you're using that example in a way that demonstrates that you don't understand why it wasn't made. it not being picked up wasn't a sign that people don't want the show or movie to happen, it's a sign that they expect a higher quality version of the character than what that pilot gave audiences.

you may end up being right that i'll be a while before a WonderWoman movie; but it'll be an accident that you are right and not because of what you think the reasons are.

In all honesty a WW movie has little to no potential for a great movie. I mean think about it, she has no iconic villains, no great storylines, and she's very boring as a character. Hell her animated movie didn't sell fast enough to warrant sequels according to the producers and her books struggle to avoid cancellation. Considering how expensive it is to produce superhero movies these days, they won't be willing to take a chance on an unprofitable franchise, especially after the Green Lantern debacle. She can't even carry a TV pilot while Green Arrow and a minor character from Avengers can have a successful show.

There are many other DC characters with more appeal and accessibility like the Teen Titans who've proven they can be successful in the mainstream.

I definitely think that Diana should be the next big DC hero to get a solo movie, but I think that they should definitely introduce the character in a Batman or Superman movie first to drum up a little more hype. A Wonder Woman movie really can't afford to fail. If it does, it'll just reinforce the flawed notion that a female led superhero movie can't do well.

But I'm with everyone else. If they can make Asgard and Thor and everything work with Thor, they can make it work with Wonder Woman. It'll be a little more challenging because of the way that DC seems to be leaning into the whole grounded in reality thing (which I personally think is a great way for them to differentiate themselves from Marvel), but it's still very doable.

Without even being a fan, I would say WW. If Thor can carry a movie then why not her?

wonderwoman fans aren't restricted to the niche universe of comicbooks. as such, her book sales don't reflect her earning potential. DC knows this even though you don't.

why are you claiming that she can't carry a tv pilot? she's had a tv show run for 2, 24episode (long) seasons. the 2011 tv pilot was simply bad and that's why it wasn't picked up; it was not dropped because the character isn't liked. the pilot ruined the character, that's all. that's as asinine as saying "no one likes Green Lantern see how badly his movie did?" no, Green Lantern has fans, just the movie was horrible. Green Arrow has been successful because someone took time and effort to make it great instead of simply doing a garbage job to cash in on the name like was done with the Catwoman and Elektra movies.

really? the Teen Titans are accessible to 6yos and tweens. in 20 years there will be a fan base asking for that movie.

Exactly they even stated on the recent DC villain documentary, they said because she's so iconic that her rogue gallery is so small that she could destroy it in single second. That's why First born was created, they needed power and iconicism to face Diana. That's why an movie is so hard.

Some think a Wonder Woman movie is "complicated" and difficult to create, but come on, really? Marvel's introducing a talking space Raccoon who carries around massive firearms next year. Oh, and his teammate is a giant, talking tree. So, is diving into an easy to understand mythos with Gods really too complex for people to grasp compared to something like an alien who soaks in the sun for super-powers? Or a fleet of space cops with rings powered by the user's will? Sure, they may have to make some changes here and there to the mythos (which is often expected when translating source material to films), but there's no reason to believe it's a concept that can't work.

It's not really that simple. The Raccoon and the Tree don't have much depth to them as characters (there's a sentence for ya). Wonder Woman is just as complex as Superman. His thing is hope, trust and being the best person you can be. Her shtick is hope, truth, and equality. They have to get that across like they did in Man of Steel and at the same time showcasing her abilities, crafting a story, selecting a villain, CAST, what version do they use (pre 52 or New 52) and so on and so on.

Of course it's possible but look how long it took Hollywood to get Superman right. They can't even get the freakin Punisher right! Different companies I know but still. I'm one of the people that loved Man of Steel. It's the Superman movie I've been waiting my whole life for. A Wonder Woman movie needs to be similar.

That's ridiculous Ares, Cheetah, Circe, Doctor Psycho, Bana tribe . Ares is much more threatening villian than Loki . A movie about Norse mythology based Comic works but Greek mythology based comic not, really?

To be fair I vote for Flash because I like him more but I'm not against WW movie, actually in good settings it works more than other heroes.

Yeah, Cheetah has the powers of several gods, so she is pretty powerful, as is Ares.

Yup. He has massive potential with a Technis-type storyline, but DC has not fleshed out his personality or mythology at all. I'd like to see him with a film, but he doesn't even have enough material right now to support a book.

truthfully, i'm not a huge WW fan. That being said, being one of the main leaguers she does need her own movie at some point soon, or at least a cameo in something. In the last 10 years we've seen live versions of soooo many other heroes, it almost boggles my mind that she hasn't even been mentioned. How u gon make live versions of blue beetle, hawkman, WONDER TWINS (smallville) before u even attempt wonder wonder ?? don't get it

Martian Manhunter could be introduced in a JLA movie. He could be the one to gather the heroes to fight Darkseid or some other villain.

I voted GL as well. I really want to see John Stewart on the big screen.

That said, there is no way WB will beat Marvel Studios to having the first Female or Black Superhero headlining their own film. We'll see 2 Captain Marvel films before we see a Wonder Woman one and 2 Black Panther films before a John Stewart Green Lantern film. Captain Marvel will be THE new feminist icon.

There are no sidekicks established in the DCU, so you cannot do Teen Titans yet. And WW has plenty of iconic villains and storylines.

Also, Wonder Woman rocks and should have gotten a film a long time ago. Her book does really well sales-wise btw.

Flash would get boring real quick. How many crime procedurals has America been exposed to? How many times have we seen Super Speed on screen already?

Wonder Woman comes with her own fascinating world that isn't just a generic city too. She can go globetrotting for artifacts in her franchise.

If WB were smart they'd make a wonder woman movie, could potentially kill at the box office if it's good.

I think Black Canary could be good too, and her powers don't require great CGI or expenditures, if DC doesn't feel confident in a female lead heroes drawing power.
