Comic Book Question of the Week RESULTS: Next Batman Animated Movie You Want

And the winner is...

DC's animated movies have an impressive track record, so it's tough not to get completely excited over how many projects they have planned. Justice League: War comes out Feb. 4 (already available for digital download and you can read our review here), and we know Son of Batman and Batman: Assault on Arkham are also slated for this year. To top it off, another big story is teased during the mid-credits scene in Justice League: War. We all want to see different characters get the opportunity to shine, but let's face it, a lot of us love Batman and there's a bunch of stories we'd love to see serve as the inspiration for a future project. This week, we wanted to see which story the Comic Vine crowd really wants to get the animated treatment. Well, the results are in and the winner is...

Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo's The Court of Owls!

No Caption Provided

Solid choice, Comic Viners. Snyder and Capullo's debut story in The New 52 has the potential to be a legitimately engaging movie. Plus, how awesome would the maze scene be? They could have so much fun going all out and making it as trippy as possible. If you haven't read it yet, we obviously recommend checking it out. Not far behind is Jeph Loeb and Jim Lee's Hush. Alan Moore and Brian Bolland's The Killing Joke earned third place. Here's the rest of the poll results:

Comic Viners, do you think an animated movie inspired by Snyder and Capullo's story would be full of win or did your vote go elsewhere? Join the discussion and speak your mind below.

"Hush" was such a fantastic story, I still love going back and rereading it. The story and the art were amazing, and if an animated version could capture that same magic as the printed version I think it could surpass even "Under the Red Hood" in terms of quality.

i voted court of the owls but when i really think about it, i want to see hush more because of all the villains.

Either of them should be 2 parts.

I'll never understand peoples fascination with the mediocre, seriously Hush and Court of Owls.If they really want a Scott Snyder story it should have been Black Mirror,Zero Year would have been cool too but they've made Year One already,I guess they could tweak it to ignore the origin part and go straight to the blackout.

We've already had Under the Red Hood,it has the same base ingredients as Hush and the COO,and DC animation has been going seriously downhill, last thing we need are those two stories.

I'd rather not see a Batman animated feature for a while if it meant they would put out material from the rest of the DCU instead.

Okay I have to ask you guys besides some of Superman's stories how could they make animated movies about other DC character when they really don't have any stories worth adapting? Also besides Batman, Superman, and the allies or villains associated with them who really likes Green Lantern, Flash, Aquaman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, etc. to want to see a movie made about them? The fact that the Green Lantern movie and animated series were failures prove that no one really cares about anyone in the DC Universe except Batman or Superman.

Do you know why that is? Superman and Batman have the greatest media exposure, which in turn sets up their popularity. The other DC heroes need that. Wonder Woman's 2009 movie is DC's 3rd highest selling animated flick, even if it had slow sales initially. So what if Green Lantern turned out to be a bust? Wonder Woman, Flash and Aquaman are characters who are easier to digest for mainstream audiences and are also well liked.

Not a bad story, but boring choice. How about Gotham by Gaslight? I want some Elseworlds movies. Those are the best DC stories anyway.

New Teen Titans: Judas Contract

New Teen Titans: Terror of Trigon

Wonder Woman: The Contest

Wonder Woman: The Hiketeia

Wonder Woman: The Circle

JL/GL: Blackest Night

GL: Emerald Twilight

Adaptation of the situation on the current Earth-2

And who knows what they might come up with if they have an original story to tell?

Sure. Just do Batman and Robin. Remove Bruce, put Dick and Damian in the roles. Good enough for me.

To be honest I was kind of gutted to not see Batman - Vampire in the list. Would have made a great animated film.

Court of Owls is only logical. I think they should do a Court of Owls/Night of Owls 2 parter!

I'd rather see other stories first (Something like Identity Crisis or the Judas Contract) but if I had to pick, Hush or Long Halloween would be great on screen.

Here's a thought. How about DC make an animated movie for their other heroes. You know maybe Aquaman or Swamp Thing or Martian Manhunter or Cyborg .. you know so that people are interested in more than 1 character.

Sorry I don't hate bats or anything I just think DC leans on him too much for revenue

@vandinejd_1991: The Young Justice cartoon says hello! Oh, and the green lantern animated series was great so shut your mouth. Also, are we forgetting Wonder Womans animated feature a few years ago? That one was very popular. Personally, I´d love to see a green arrow animated feature. It would have all of the dark and gritty atmosphere that the batman features have.

Wow. I mean, I sure would like to see that, but there are so many other stories I would like to see be done first. Like Long Halloween, Killing Joke, Hush, Knightfall.

Just wow.

I would rather see Hush. Better than Court of Owl(Snyder is great writing Batman don't get me wrong!) imo. Plus, features a lot of fan favorite villains.

I know I'm in the minority, but I wasn't really impressed with Hush, it was just a meh book for me. I like Court of Owls alot more.

I agree with Hush being mediocre, but Court of Owls was really awesome, it was suspenseful and creepy. Also agree about Black Mirror,it was really good. It was a dark and suspenseful story, except Bruce Wayne wasn't Batman, so I doubt it will ever have a place in mainstream.

Hush...not only is it an awesome stand alone story but it would be like a big "screw you" to Jeph Loeb if DC animated one of his stories and did it better than any of the crap that he's put out through Marvel Animation

Per usual, 22% does not mean that's the film the CV community wants to see. You could say with more certainty that CV wants to see one of CoO, Hush or KJ. A follow-up poll of the top 3 (where the people who picked all the other options would have to vote for one of these) would better tell which would win. The top 3 were so close, that if everyone else was forced to decide between these, Hush or KJ might win.

Personally, I don't think there's enough DC animation out there & they always make a good amount of changes to what they do put out, so I'd be happy to get anything. I do 2nd the wish for more non-Big2 videos. I don't realistically think they'd give attention to non-main characters, so of the most popular ones, I'd want one of Flash (biggest DC character to not get a solo or even tandem flick), or GL (didn't care a ton for the 2nd one, and neither lived up to the Johns era/arc of the GL-world (which, despite no GL being my favorite character (or even 2nd favorite), is probably my favorite DC "universe").

Killing Joke would be nice to see since it is such a classic and I know they will never make it due to it being to pre-52 for their New 52 linked universe, but seeing a animated Whatever Happened to the Caped Crusader? would be pretty neat.

However I think it is time we give Batman a break. As much as I love Batman and the Batman characters DC needs to give them a rest. We have seen to much of them. DC is not all about Batman or even Superman because I know they have been doing a lot of Superman stuff too. It would be nice to see DC give us some more Wonder Woman or the Flash. A Green Lantern or an Aquaman would be nice. They need to focus on more than just Batman and Superman so people will know that DC is not just about those two. The reason why Marvel is doing so well when it comes to the mainstream audience is because they aren't giving us only Spiderman and Iron Man. They are exposing people to more characters in the Marvel universe.

@martianmanhunterisbetterthancy: finally some sees it. I guarantee had they put so much focus on green arrow and captain marvel( just pick two random characters) then people would be all over them and call bats and sups overrated.

@aaunderoath: They lean on him or money because he makes the most out of all the other characters but I agree some other animated movies would be cool. But this is batman's 75 year anniversary so expect to see a lot of him this year.

I've actually written a animated screenplay for the Court of Owls. I just based it off Batman #1-11, not including any of the tie-ins. I just did it for fun but I think it turned out pretty well. I'm on the second draft, haven't touched it in a while.

The biggest challenge is taking the very wordy books that Snyder writes and breaking it down to flow well as a scene. If the characters talked as much as they did in Snyder's books the movie would drag on and feel boring.

I just wish I knew the Courts motivations. I know they are a secret society and all but I still don't know what their core motivation is. "Take back our city!!" ... I thought you've always been in control? And why don't they like the Wayne Initiative? What's wrong with Gotham being a nice place? And once they take total control, what is the end game? Entire City to be members of the Court? What's their plans for when the Justice League shows up?

Lots of questions that I still have despite reading the arc a few times.

I wouldn't go that far. Superman and Batman have definitely earned their popularity, but DC needs to push their other characters. Marvel is smarter and they push more of their characters in to the mainstream, allowing awareness of characters like Deadpool and Guardians of the Galaxy to increase.

DC animation could put out more shorts to build interest in other characters, kind of like they did with Jonah Hex, Shazam, and a Green Arrow. With the latter I would think that there may be a bit more interest with him since we have the WB series and his character from Smallville.

There are plenty of stories that are better than Court of Owls that deserve to be made into animated films.
