Comic Book Question of the Week RESULTS: Favorite Deathstroke Costume

And the coolest Slade Wilson costume is...

Slade Wilson certainly is enjoying his time in the spotlight. Not only is he our latest Character of the Month, but it was recently announced that he's going to get an all-new ongoing series, too! To celebrate our current Character of the Month, our latest Question of the Week asked you one simple yet fun question: what's your favorite Deathstroke costume?

10 options were placed on the poll and one of the attires took a nice lead over the competition. Apologies to fans of the classic duds, but Deathstroke's armor in Batman: Arkham Origins has earned the top spot!

Opinions may be mixed on the third installment of the Arkham franchise, but it's clear many of us can agree that Deathstroke's design for the game is really, really cool. The armor gives him a more formidable and dangerous appearance but doesn't make him look too bulky or hinder his movement. It's just enough to make him look durable and oh-so-frightening. He's also armed to to the teeth, but again, it's not overbearing. It's practical and something that would totally translate well if he ever appears on the big screen. It's a great look for the mercenary and it's easy to see why so many people love it.

352 Viners voted in the latest poll (want to vote next time? SIGN UP!). Here's the complete results.

  • Batman: Arkham Origins (video game) 36%
  • The New 52 17%
  • Classic pre-52 costume (blue/orange) 14%
  • Injustice: Gods Among Us (video game) 11%
  • Teen Titans (animated series) 9%
  • Arrow (TV series) 6%
  • Young Justice (animated series) 5%
  • Pre-52 blue/black 1%
  • Flashpoint 1%
  • Son of Batman (animated movie) 1%

Let's see what a few Viners had to say about Slade's costumes.

Wardishy

"I quite like his costumes in Arkham Origins and Arrow, but the animated Teen Titans version will always hold a special place in my heart."

AmazingWebHead

"Son of Batman. It has a strong resemblance to his classic look, but with a more "military" style."

MannEffest

"While the Teen Titians costume my not be the most badass, it is my far the most menacing. Simple and sleek, the Teen Titians Deathstroke was the first exposure I had to the character, and it immediately left its mark on me. The way the shadows played off his black and orange, skull-like mask, made a young child like myself cower away in a corner. However, not only is it menacing, but it is completely effective. While it lacks the sheer badass-ery of say Arkham Origins or his New 52 design, it makes up for in efficiency. It doesn't have all the heavy and oversized armor that some of the others have. It has just enough protective platting and pouches for space to make this Deathtroke, not only an effective killing weapon, but a man of a wicked sense of fashion. I mean, come on, it looks so cool!! :D But ya' know, nostalgia."

We ask one more thing of you, Viners. Now that you've voted for the costumes, share an image of your favorite one with us! Go ahead and show the world why that attire is full of awesome. Also, we'll attempt to focus another Question of the Week or two on Slade Wilson, so if you have an idea for a good question, feel free to share it below or via Twitter.

Want to continue celebrating Deathstroke? He's currently battling Boba Fett (click here to vote!). Also, two video games he's appeared in -- Injustice: Gods Among Us and Batman: Arkham Origins -- are featured in the latest edition of Favorite Comic Book Video Games (click here to vote!). We'll post his best covers this Friday, too!

It's a pity, Arkham Origins with the best costume, but is probably also Deathstroke's most disappointing appearance coupled with the most irritating fight in the whole game.

New 52 for me.

I voted for the New 52. Looks so badass. Not a huge fan of the full armoured costume.

Had the mask looked better, I woulda said Arrow stomps.

I think Injustice: Gods Among Us and Son of Batman has that beat. I mean, at least in Origins Deathstroke was treated as the most difficult boss.

I like they way he looks in Injustice well his main costume, his New 52 look, & I'm liking the Arkham Origins costume.

@k4tzm4n: Uh no... Injustice was appropriate and in character despite how brief his story-mode presence was. AO on the other hand, he is the second of the big name assassins to show up, he has no in-game gravitas or much of a personality, all he really does is provide a very annoying obstacle you can't really avoid. Plus you had that teaser video to get pumped up for his appearance... big fat nothing that was.

(can't speak for Son of Batman, haven't watched it),

Posted by dagmar_merrill

@k4tzm4n: pfffffttt Electrocurioner was the hardest boss.

Posted by AllStarSuperman

No. The classic is the best. His new 52 is way too bulky. And origins looks like he just can't get enough protection.

Edited by k4tzm4n

@outside_85: I think Injustice handled the character's personality in the story well enough, but IIRC he's literally the first person Batman beats up and that left a bad taste in my mouth. Sure, Slade's early on in Origins, but, based on my memory, he's treated as the most skilled assassin in the batch. I was hoping the Shiva fight would be a huge challenge, but it was so generic. So I was pleased he's at least displayed as a very formidable character. He may have a cliche personality, but they made him what he should be in the game: a difficult boss battle. In Son of Batman, Deathstroke looks awesome, but his personality and skill leaves A LOT to be desired.

Yes! The best choice!

@outside_85: If you are a Deathstroke fan, I'd highly recommend that you DO NOT watch it! They just made him some boring video game boss, and took everything I loved about him away. I'm a fan of the noble assassin, who trained himself in the military to be the greatest solider. He's my favorite comic book anti-hero, so that contributed to my strong reaction.

The underwear ruins the whole look for me.

To me he is not a anti hero, he is whatever his contract as of him. A lot of the time it's for him to be the villain. I like the son of batman movie but I did hate the way they did his character in the movie. He should not have even been in the movie because that was not deathstroke. The way they did his character was worse than what marvel did to the mandarin in that movie.

He isn't really, he's just treated as 'an assassin'. Shiva has the most formidable rep of the lot from her skill, Bane from his gravitas. I would argue that Slade actually has the least presence, sharing that spot with Electrocutioner and Firefly. I agree that the Shiva fight wasn't exactly stellar, but... well, I played a lot of Akham Asylum and City and thought stating Origins on hard would be good fun... which ended with Deathstroke because on hard you don't get the warnings when he attacks, you don't know which ones you need to block or how much and every attack you make out of sync is instantly repelled and punished... it just makes Deathstroke impassable if you don't get other people's explanations for the fight. I am normally up for challenges in games, but obnoxious stuff like that just annoys the green out of me. So now you know why I haven't actually gotten past him on Normal+ mode either :(

And again, judging by the teaser trailer we got of Origins, I thought Slade was going to end up being the last guy we had to fight before getting to beat up Black Mask (being a hugely formidable opponent for Batman in comics, it would make a lot of sense)... but no, I was wrong on all those accounts as well.

Awww, you guys liked what I said enough to put it up there? :D I'm flattered.

I like the classic because it set the base for all the updated looks.

Are you a Cable fan? I ask because whenever I see Deathstroke's New 52 costume I think it's Cable hiding under the mask.

Arkham Deathstroke was one of the coolest designs i have ever seen on a video game villain.

Posted by Jayc1324

The correct costume won. But I can't believe anyone voted for the arrow suit. The mask looks like plastic and the rest of it is just generic. I've seen better cosplay.

Posted by Jayc1324

@outside_85: I would not say he was as bad as electrocutioner. He was literally in two cutscenes, no gameplay with him at all. Deathstroke, while early on the game and only in one appearance, was still portrayed as one of the best assassins. The fact that his boss fight was so hard for you proves that.

@fallschirmjager: You like Arrow version that much?

Aside from the mask, hell yeah. It looks badass.

If they woulda went cloth instead of hockey mask I woulda said its not even close.

@fallschirmjager: Right on. Do you think Captain Cold will wear a cool costume when he appears in the Flash show?

Edited by Fallschirmjager

@ostyo: Dunno. I imagine so. Not sure if we'll see full on Esikmo style though

Arrow minus the mask,New 52 and Arkham origins but DS in Origins was lame he could have killed batman pretty quick considering the experience difference and in Arrow he was cool and Driven but his back story.....

Arkham Origins Deathstroke looked the best, and actually that Batman costume was one of my favorites as well, I don't understand all the complaining about the difficulty of the boss fight though, I found it to be a minor annoyance, and I thought it was stupid he wasn't in the game enough, and should not have been so easily beaten by Batman.

Edited by Extremis

Call me oldschool, but I like the classic. I'm remembering the awesomeness that is Judas Contract as I type this *sigh*

Posted by Mapuia_Ralte

Sadly I didn't get to vote on this one. Would have picked the animated Teen Titans version for sure though, sleek and menacing and it fitted his attitude so well. Origins would be a close second 'cos it reflects on his mercenary nature so damn well.

That is such an awesome cover.

Posted by NightFang

Deathstroke usually looks good in almost everything.

Posted by baneofdemon22

@mapuia_ralte: I agree! I'm a huge classic Deathstroke fan, but the Teen Titans outfit is my favorite. I think they did a wonderful job with it. Deathstroke was my second favorite comic book character when he was in the classic costume in Marv Wolfman's run, so I have an attachment to it, but I can separate myself from it. Just like Wolverine's classic yellow costume, I don't find very good, but I love his character so much while wearing it.

@nickxh: hell yeah it is. I wish that was a poster.
