Comic Book Question of the Week Results: Favorite DC Villain

Who did the Comic Vine community pick as their favorite DC villain? Spoiler alert: it's not Condiment King!

When it comes to the DC universe, we've been swimming in a sea of sinister villains for the past month. Villains Month has come to an end, but the bad people in DC are still running the show thanks to the publisher's latest big event, FOREVER EVIL. Because of this, we thought it would be fitting to ask you who your top foe is over in their world. Well, it turns out the race wasn't close... like, at all.

One character absolutely slaughtered the rest and no one even came close to giving the character some competition... not even the mighty Darkseid. So, who could possibly earn such a vast majority when there's so much diabolical competition? The Joker, of course! Go ahead, try and act like you're surprised.

"THEY'RE my competition? HA!"

The Clown Prince of Crime first appeared way back in 1940 (BATMAN #1) and has since become absurdly popular (as proven in the poll results). The murderer is the focus of several great comics (e.g. THE KILLING JOKE, ARKHAM ASYLUM, DEATH OF THE FAMILY) and brilliant portrayals in the media have only boosted the villain's fanbase (e.g. Mark Hamill, Jack Nicholson, Heath Ledger). We're not shocked Joker won, but we are somewhat surprised by the massive lead he took. Here's the full poll results.

Did you vote for Joker and, if so, why is he the best villain DC has to offer? Or, do you disagree with the result and think another character deserved the victory? Lastly, when we asked who the community's favorite Marvel villain is, Doctor Doom narrowly defeated Magneto in the poll. So, that brings us to the real question: Joker or Doctor Doom?

I think this was even more expected than Doctor Doom winning the poll for favorite Marvel villain.

Damn, Deadshot is still only at 2%. He was at 2% when I voted for him. Am I the only one who voted Deadshot as their favorite villain?

Posted by Marionettegeist

Wait, is there actually going to be a Doctor Doom vs. Joker poll? I kind of want to see the results on that one.

Nah, figured people could just have fun talking about in here if they'd like. However, someone is totally welcome to make one in the general discussion section if they'd like.

No, you absolutely weren't alone (581 people in total voted).

Excellent. Nice to see that's somewhat close.

That is mathematically impossible because other villains only have 1%. So you would need at least 2 votes to get 2% and I can guarantee you more than 100 people voted on this poll.

I think Joker would without a doubt beat Dr. Doom. Not in a battle of skills, strength, or intelligence but he'd definitely beat him in popularity.

Yay Sinestro got third, I guess that's good enough.

Posted by Outside_85

Well, that was about as big a surprise as the sun rising.

@k4tzm4n considering it was the end of villains month, wouldn't it have been more appropritate to ask which single issue was the best? (the answer should be more unpredictable :) )

Posted by The Stegman

Just like Stilt Man should have won the Marvel poll, I think Condiment King should have been in this poll and victorious.

Joker? I admit that I expected more from this community.

Posted by Trodorne

What shocks me are peoples shock at the results. I mean really people. overall comic fan base are usually on characters like Spider-man, Wolverine, Batman, and Superman. Batman being the biggest fan base and joker being the easiest thing to market as batmans number 1 villain. why would anyone be shocked that joker won?

If anything we should all be shocked if Crazy Quilt actually won. but if he won, id pee myself laughing.

Can't believe Lex fell so far. And yes I voted Joker.

Forgot who I voted for. Probably Scarecrow though.

Sure. Care to turn back time so I can do that?

I don't think the Joker is as interesting as people think he is.

Posted by Chewblocka

Out of that list only Deathstroke had a comic... and now that comic is cancelled thanks to a horrible writer and an even worse artist.

Its also pretty interesting how Deathstroke is 4th on the list but compared to the others hes less used.

Surprised Lex Luthor got so few votes.

I picked Rogues because I voted based on quality of villains month issues . . . Joker would definitely not win that contest.

Agreed. That's like someone throwing a "Who's your favorite DC hero?" poll and being surprised Batman wins. It's not like Joker is some no named villain, he's been popular for decades.

I voted for Deathstroke. His actions speak better than my words.

@the_vein:

He was like to be Batman´s archenemy. I think if he was Green Arrow´s enemy, he would be underated and less used.

Still realllllly upset Joker's Daughter didn't make the cut.

Yep. Also find it ironic Two-Face got 2%. I voted Two-Face personally so I find that awesome.

Seems like most of people on comic vine dont actually read comics and vote blindly. Sad really...

@inferiorego: Please, do we really want that pathetic joke of a character in this poll? lol She's not even the real Joker's daughter and since she's been written by Ann Nocenti (worst comic book writer right behind Rob Liefeld) she isn't gotta get any better. lol The only awesome thing about her is her Aquacat who's doing a better job at breathing underwater than Aquadog. lmao

OR. Maybe they do read comics, and Joker is their favorite villain. Man, people get bitter when characters they like don't win something.

When was I bitter about it? He's not my favorite Marvel villain, but I ain't flippin' tables over it, lol.

Not suprising! The Vine is Dc heavy, it's also Bat-Fan heavy ! Of course the Joker would be voted top tier villain. Batman and anything related receives heavy support here, go check the stats. Case and example, I find it highly unlikely that a comic should receive 5 star ratings constantly. I 've seen it happen with Batman related books, no disrespect! It would seem that if you say or go against anything Batman, you become the enemy here. I think it's time to be real here, at the end of the day the Joker is just a street level psychotic clown used as a continuous plot device in Batman's book's for decades. Again no disrespect to the character, is he really popular or are we just used to him? With all the twisted acts he's performed in the DC verse it's astonishing that he's still alive. I've said this before he'd wouldn't last in the MU. Now not taking away his accomplishment's, I respect that, but I like villians who become more of global or universal threat. It doesn't hurt if the villain has super powers either. I chose Darkseid, but I guess the better clown won, no disrespect to the Joker.

xD

Ras Al Ghul! Thats my vote

Posted by LCazT1996

I voted for Sinestro. Glad he got third. Pretty much went how I expected for the top two...but I expected someone like Luthor to get third. Weird. Glad I'm not the only one that loves Sinestro :)

Or they read comics and actually like the character. Don't get chaffed because your favorite didn't win.

@evilvegeta74: I think to label the Joker as " just a street level psychotic clown" is kind of an ignorant statement.....

I voted for The Rouges because I've really been loving how they have been handled recently. But the Joker is a top tier villain who is definitely deserving of this spot.
