Comic Book Question of the Week Results: Favorite DC Animated Movie

Which Justice Leaguer has the honor of starring in Comic Vine's most beloved animated flick?

Sure, DC takes some flak when it comes to their live action properties, but their animated films? Well, attempting to mock those would be a foolish move because even if you don't like the characters, there's no denying the fact they've been producing some quality material. Often focusing on Batman, Superman or other members of the Justice League, we've had the treat of enjoying quite a few animated features since Superman: Doomsday landed back in 2007. There are so many excellent choices to watch over and over again, but this week, we wanted to know which one rises above the rest for you. If you're wondering why choices like Batman: Mask of Phantasm or Superman/Shazam: The Return of Black Adam didn't make the list, it's because the options were limited to full length films from the modern era (which began with Superman: Doomsday).

After leaving the poll open for two days, one movie was the clear winner and took 39% of the votes: Batman: Under the Red Hood.

Whoa, whoa... Jason dies? SPOILERS, MAN!

"I didn't expect that to win," said probably no one ever. It seemed fairly obvious this would take an edge and for plenty of good reasons, too. Not only is it packed with thrilling action sequences, but it's a talented cast of voice actors, a sharp script and some truly gripping and emotional scenes. The ending makes me almost tear up every single time and that's a true credit to how great this adventure is. I don't know about you, but I now have a super strong urge to rewatch this one tonight.

Check out the rest of the poll results below and be sure to chime in with your favorite scene from Batman: Under the Red Hood!

  • Superman: Doomsday 1%
  • Justice League: The New Frontier 4%
  • Batman: Gotham Knight 2%
  • Wonder Woman 8%
  • Green Lantern: First Flight 1 %
  • Superman/Batman: Public Enemies 2%
  • Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths 8%
  • Batman: Under the Red Hood 39%
  • Superman/Batman: Apocalypse 3%
  • All-Star Superman 5%
  • Green Lantern: Emerald Knights 1%
  • Batman: Year One 4%
  • Justice League: Doom 6%
  • Superman vs. The Elite 3%
  • Batman: The Dark Knight Returns Part 1 4%
  • Batman: The Dark Knight Returns Part 2 7%
  • Superman: Unbound 1%

Not surprising at all.

I'm pretty sure I was the only person to vote for Emerald Knights

"Batman: Under the Red Hood" is a masterpiece. Nothing more, nothing less.

Posted by The Mighty Monarch

Wow, no other even came close. Honestly, while Crisis On Two Earths is my personal favorite, if we're counting only the ones from Doomsday onwards, this deserved to win. It was both awesome and intense at the same time, with the best Joker that wasn't Mark Hamill. Still can't believe Wonder Woman did so well, it just wasn't a great movie. Not bad, but it had a lot of little flaws all around.

Wonder Women beat All-Star Superman?
Must be a lot of WW fans on here... I liked her better in DOOM to be honest.

Posted by ChillinVillain

I laughed so hard when I scrolled down to see how the other movies did. However I'm surprised that Gotham Knight, Year One, and Emerald Knights did so poorly. If there was more Owlman in Crisis on Two Earths then maybe that movie would've done better, as well.

However, I think it's clear that Under the Red Hood is the far superior movie of this bunch.

New Frontier was my favorite. Under the Red Hood sucked and reminded me that Joker will always be a problem.

I wouldn't really consider myself a WW fan and I thought the film was exceptional.

The film was fantastic, and I keep saying they should use that script as a template for a WW live action film.

Batman !

True. But the most memorable scene came from superman doomsday, when lex shoots mercy point blank in the face.

TDKR is epic

Edited by Darknite32

I can't believe Green Lantern: Emerald Nights only received 1% of the votes. That movie was a great movie

As awesome as superman vs the elite is Under the red hood was just pure gold

Called it, saw WW pic and i immediatly called bull****, knew red hood would win.

I wasn't trying to be deceptive, I just thought the film deserved some love :)

I can't believe Justice league DOOM got 3rd/4th place. I think that movie is subpar compared to others. The DOOM story has been overdone already. Crisis on 2 Earth is my 2nd favorite/choice/vote so I'm glad it tied for 2nd place.

Edited by Outside_85

Surprised that WW tied for second.

Posted by SavageDragon

Wonder Woman tied for second, thats commendable. WW is my vote but UTRH is a great film.

oh i know, and it was a great movie, But there wasnt a single doubt hood was gonna take the prize :)

Superman vs the Elite was the most memorable for me. "Heat vision, focused through your pupils like a scalpel, instant lobotomy." So cool! Honestly I'm sick to death of Batman, they should just have Deathstroke or Bane kill him... And Robin and Nightwing and Red Robin and Batgirl and Alfred and Batwing and Red Hood and....... Stop with the Bat-crap already!

voted for CoTE

Posted by TeamUnitedNerds

I don't actually like any of them.

Posted by JamDamage

@ccraft:

agreed. Under the Red Hood was only good for me, as the story from the book itself was only okay. Oh well.

Posted by Mucklefluga

I went with Doom, it's very enjoyable.

Posted by ccraft

@jamdamage: Under the Red Hood is good, but not better than TDKR!!! lol

Posted by akbogert

*takes notes, having never watched any of them*

Also, I reorganized these in % order, in case anyone else wanted that:

Batman: Under the Red Hood 39%

Wonder Woman 8%

Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths 8%

Batman: The Dark Knight Returns Part 2 7%

Justice League: Doom 6%

All-Star Superman 5%

Justice League: The New Frontier 4%

Batman: Year One 4%

Batman: The Dark Knight Returns Part 1 4%

Superman vs. The Elite 3%

Superman/Batman: Apocalypse 3%

Superman/Batman: Public Enemies 2%

Batman: Gotham Knight 2%

Green Lantern: First Flight 1 %

Green Lantern: Emerald Knights 1%

Superman Unbound 1%

Superman: Doomsday 1%

Edited by BlueLantern1995

And to no one's surprise Under the Red Hood won...and rightfully so, I may add.

Posted by Trixie

Seriously? wow. The best was Apocalypse.

Posted by Extremis

@darknite32: I actually haven't seen that one yet. But I'll take you up on Your recommendation

@the_mighty_monarch: There was a WonderWoman movie? I think I see why it didn't do well... I've seen every OTHER DC animated movie...

It was also amazing.

Justice League Doom was probably my favorite. Tough to pick just one though. Wasn't really a fan of TDR though honestly. I love the book of course and it was cool to see it with nice artwork in an animated movie, but like you don't really get all the deep internal dialogue you would normally see Bruce Wayne going through throughout the course of the book. The writing is what made it so deep and I feel like the animated movie kinda takes away from it though. I.M.O. Still though not bad. Just saying. :p

I honestly didn't enjoy UtRH.

Both GL films were amazing, I enjoyed the WW movie as well, even tho i'm no big fan of her, all DC is missing is a Flash movie that isn't Flashpoint, its all I'm asking

Posted by Perfect 10

of course not surprised this is a male dominated batmatised society. oh well at least wonder woman got some love. true art is often under appreciated

Edited by AWeekInGeekdom

I love under the red hood but I like the team movies a bit more so I foolishly voted for Doom with a close second being a tie between Wonder Woman and Apocalypse.

Posted by Bruce_Kent12

Superman/Batman: Apocalypse should have been way higher . Under the red hood was pretty good, but still. Loved Neil Patrick Harris voice work though.

Posted by Onemoreposter

This entire poll was invalid as Mask of the Phantasm (the only DC animated feature film to get an actual theatrical release btw) was not included.

Edited by Grimoire

@the_stegman: The second half of the WW animated movie I would agree. lol Didn't really care for the overwhelming man hate for the first half imo. I think a WW movie can stand out without it as this hero deserves one made on the same scale as the Superman and Batman movies have.

Posted by The Stegman

@grimoire: I didn't mind it, and it wasn't overwhelming, yeah the Amazons had some hatred toward men..but they're Amazons, it's to be expected, I actually found it funny.

I honestly didn't enjoy UtRH.

You're part of the few and proud my friend. Myself on the other thought it was a great rebirth for the character Jason Todd and was a much better telling then what the comics did #SuperboyPrimePAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWNCH!!!!!

Posted by Eivion

I'm fine with Under the Red Hood winning. It was easily a top three for me. That said, Superman vs. Elite should have done much better.

Yay! Batman Under The Red Hood FTW
