Comic Book Question of the Week Results: Favorite Current Big Event

Did the Crime Syndicate blast apart the Avengers? Or did the X-Men or TMNT sneak by and take the win?

Many of us do have event fatigue, but darn it, there's just no resisting an event with a lot of promise. Luckily for us, there's four of those going on right now. Evil reigns supreme in DC's universe, the Avengers are battling a massive cosmic threat, the X-Men are facing trouble with time travel, and Leonardo has become Shredder's ally. We each have our own favorites here at Comic Vine, but this week, we wanted to see which story you're enjoying the most or think has the most promise. Well, it turns out DC's latest big event cleaned house and earned a massive majority of the votes.

  • DC's FOREVER EVIL / VILLAINS MONTH: 44%
  • Marvel's INFINITY: 21%
  • Marvel's X-MEN: BATTLE OF THE ATOM: 18%
  • TMNT'S CITY FALL: 13%
  • None of the above: 3%
  • Other: 1%
No Caption Provided

Sure, this isn't the first story ever where the villains have taken control, but who cares when it's done skillfully and is flowing with potential? For one, we have Lex Luthor (who Geoff Johns does a superb job writing, by the way) stepping up to the plate and being the "hero." Then we have the return of the very awesome Crime Syndicate and a war among DC's iconic villains as they take sides and form alliances. Yeah, you can bet this story has a solid grip on our attention and we're really digging some of the Villains Month issues. After this poll, it's clear DC's latest event has the attention of most of you as well.

Oh, and did we mention David Finch is illustrating?
Oh, and did we mention David Finch is illustrating?

Which option earned you vote and why, Viners? Give the comments section a piece of your mind. Lastly, don't forget to check back next Tuesday for an all-new 'Comic Book Question of the Week!' In the meantime, if you have a suggestion for a future question, we're more than happy to hear it! So, if you've got one, feel free to share it below!

Good event of course. Just wish Trinity War hadn't have been the springboard to it, but hey that's just me.

This is amazing forever evil wins? this is not a surprise mediocrity rules the world now so. i am reading forever evil but i am very disappointed the first issue was ok but this villains month is rubbish. Even base on continuity this should be difficult to happen with all those Teams out there which are almost equals to the League like Stormwatch so they just let things happen like that? come on so no trinity (Superman, wonder woman & Batman) the world goes to shit please. Infinity is better it's a big scale event and sincerely is logic so many thing can happen in the universe at the same time and which are the result of events caused by one and the same mistake (Wolverine in infinity case) so I don't think too much stories which are linked some how are too big. City fall seems to be good i will try it.Battle of the atom has capture my attention now.

It isn't so much that the "Trinity" of Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman disappeared as it is that the three Justice League teams disappeared. DC isn't Marvel. Marvel has like 6 Avengers teams and 5 X-men teams among various others. DC has 3 JL teams, the Outsiders, the Teen Titans, Suicide Squad, and Stormwatch. So yes, losing three teams and having most of the Suicide Squad defect to the villains is a HUGE blow to that universe.Pretty much the only teams still on the ground are the Teen Titans, Outsiders, and Stormwatch. So while it may not have the "epic" scope of Infinity; I find it a better read because the stakes are high while still be on Earth. Some people like the giant space operas; I prefer Children of the Atom or Forever Evil.

This.

And also, the Outsiders aren't even active in the New 52 so forget about them. It's literally Stormwatch (and who knows what the fuck is going on there), Teen Titans (seems like they're gonna fight the Syndicate next month, then get thrown into the timestream), the reverse (or whatever they're calling it) Suicide Squad (with Power Girl and Steel as the only two announced memebers) who will be fighting the regular Suicide Squad, and the random heroes littered throughout the DC Universe. We've already seen Nightwing get taken down, but we know he gets back on his feet here in the next few months (he's featured prominently on the cover of Justice League 25). Martian Manhunter and Stargirl over in JLA, Constantine in JLDark. And that unknown person in the Batsuit (my personal bet is that it's either Dick or the Joker [don't hate]). But beyond them, there are no Justice League members left out there.

I've only been reading monthlies for almost a year. And the events I've witnessed, off the top of my head, since starting are:

Throne of Atlantis

Death of the Family

Rise of the Third Army

Forever Evil

Battle of the Atom

Infinity

Age of Ultron

The Enemy Within

Harbinger Wars (Valiant)

Now, you tell me, would this intimidate you if you were a new fan? Would it be hard for you to find the significance in this type of "epic" storytelling if it happens every month? For me the answer is yes, on both accounts.

So, in short, I haven't even been reading monthlies for a year and I already know and fully appreciate this thing called event fatigue. Please, dear comic industry, ease up on me. I like you, I do, but why must you smother me so? You're like a person I went out with that one time and we both kind of liked it, but when you keep calling me and incessantly pestering me over and over again, you seem a bit desperate. Please stop.

I like the speed of Infinity as of next week we will be half way through so that's good. But I will have to go with Forever Evil as I am just a DC guy at heart I guess.

And yes I am prepared for the hate I know this comment will bring.

I voted for City Fall

I thought Trinity War was a good idea, but not very clearly executed, and so far I'm feeling the same thing with Forever Evil, Like Marvel's Dark Reign, but less thorough and thus less impactful.

That said, I've had no interest in X-men for a while now, and Infinity doesn't grab my attention either.

My favorite event? Answer: NONE. Why? Because, in the words of the honorable Jay Sherman, and if I were to put them all together into one big package, I would say this about it:

Loading Video...

These events are nothing more than the comic book industry equivalent of Ed Wood's WORST picture mixed with "Heaven's Gate" (1985). It also gives me an idea for a name of this comic book 'age': THE AGE OF SELL-OUTS, 'cause that's what every single character owned by the Big Two, no matter what has been done with them by a fan-favorite team (and yes, that includes Mark Waid and co.), SELL-OUTS are all that they've become. And I HATE sell-outs.

I missed the poll it seems, but I'd have voted for Forever Evil. I don't read a lot of Marvel, just Thor, Brian Wood's X-Men, Young Avengers and that's about it. The Marvel books are highly intimidating given how many X-Men and Avengers titles there are, and how they are all tied together for the most part.

I've read the two main issues of Infinity and I have to say that I'm not really liking it. The... anthology nature of each issue really puts me off.

I voted for BotA because I'm an x-men fanatic and it's been great so far but Infinity has been pretty flipping incredible so far too. I'm really excited for the Inhumans finally being a big part of the marvel universe again. Age of Ultron was such a disappointment for me so I'm thrilled Infinity has been so great so far. I enjoyed Forever Evil #1 but so far I have not really liked any of the villains month titles. I feel like none of them have really been significant and I'm mostly just ready for the justice leagues to return.

Really? how much have you read and did you actually hate anything and tell when has something like forever evil happen before exactly

I read the main arc and some of the one-shot issues(not every issue lol, I can't afford forty titles), but I haven't liked them. I think that both Infinity and BOTA are much better, and there was Dark Reign before Forever Evil

dark reign was so different from what forever evil is people who say they are similar are simply wrong ,,,,forever evil is so good so far with only one issue that i feel like a lot of marvel lovers are hating just the cover alone for issue one is more exiting that infinity ,,,if marvel made a cover like that with all the villains like the forever evil cover ,,,marvel fans would be going crazy with anticipation .....truthfully i collect both forever evil and infinity has been boring and after age of ultron for this event to seem boring is saying alot....i hope infinity gets better ,,,i feel like thanos is wasted on this ...this dud is his big return? well lets see ...but so far im not impressed and by the 21 percent i see infinity got compared to the 44 percent forever evil got im not alone ,,,look at this blog alot of people think infinity is boring i'm not alone.

Why did you all list Forever Evil along side Villain's Months? Yea they are interlinked but are basically two different events, with one causing the other.

Villian's Month has been an absolute mess, breaking up story arcs that came before all the mess started happening. Forever Evil on the other hand, has been pretty decent.

I voted Forever Evil/Villains Month because they are retelling or changing up the villains (I should know, my wallet is suffering). I like it because they're not trying to cram everything in each issue. Battle of the Atom was my second choice because they are making the time-travelling thing work. (X-Men always does the damn time travelling thing) but Past, Present and Future X-Men all together is quite intriguing.

Infinity was a little bland for me to be honest. Don't get me wrong, I like the Avengers series as a whole but Infinity isn't doing much for me. Maybe it'll get better...but for now, not a big fan of it.

@citizenbane: Half a plot? Eleven pages of filler? Are you actually Reading Infinity? Hickman crams more story into a series of panels than the entire first issue of Forever Evil. Events aren't just occurring to push the plot forward, theyre developing over time to tell a complete, complex, and engaging story being crafted by arguably the best writer in comics right now. Its a slow burn, but its all plot, just like all of his other works.

Half a plot and eleven pages of filler. The Thanos story is great; I love the Cull Obsidian, I love the plot with Thanos' son, I love Black Bolt's central role. In between all that, I have to read this mind-numbingly overdone nonsense with the Builders on the other side of the galaxy featuring sci-fi staples that are so stapled that if you've seen them done once, you've seen them done every time. He'd be the best writer in comics right now if his Avengers run was half as good as his New Avengers run is. A slow burn with plot, high concept ideas and a worthwhile payoff is Hickman's F4 run to a tee. His Avengers run is him trying to be Morrison without any of the wit that makes Morrison fun to read.

Infinity is the greatest "event" out currently, the epic scale and plot draws you in and keeps you there. I can't wait to see how the Avengers and Galactic Council get out of this.

I don't have opinion about BotA yet, I haven't read my copy yet.

For me, the scope of Infinity makes it my LEAST favorite of the events listed. I tend to enjoy the more "street" or "eathbound" heroes like Batman, Punisher, Nightwing, Daredevil, etc. And I'm old enough to remember the old "Infinity" events and know that they always come down to your Silver Surfers and the like, making me far less interested. It was a toss up whether I'd vote for Forever Evil or Children of the Atom. I went with Forever Evil because I like the villain month and the retelling or retooling of origins and have thoroughly enjoyed 75% of the issues. Children of the Atom may end up being the "best" because of its tight focus, but the first issues had so little happen beyond one big "reveal" that I couldn't really vote for it above Forever Evil.

And arguments like this tend to make more sense when you click on the poster's page and see that every image and every post is pro one company over the other. Its okay to admit that you're a Marvel or DC fanboy; I'm sure there's an app for that.

I have to say enjoying the villian's month, didn't necessarily buy all of them but read all of them each week at my shop :) Mr. Freeze, Lobo, Joker, Zod and a few others are rather messed up. I like the backgrounds of the villians.

Infinity is great but forever evil is just bolder and new hence my vote

While this is just your opinion, bolder isn't NECESSARILY good. Just ask Lobo.

And it just seems a bit like the inverse of hero vs hero (villain vs villain).

But you are right,it's still great.

Although I think that Infinity is better (just my own opinion, though)

We finally get a great Marvel event but people would rather read Forever Evil which is mostly mediocre? Now it makes perfect sense that some good comics get canceled due to low sales.

I think this completely.

Although Forever Evil is also pretty good, but Infinity is just so....awesome. Finally,a great Marvel event in years.

Don't really get most of the complaints for Infinity.

I don't either. Apparently many people just want mindless action, and a half-ass plot with good action (in which the story ends with deus ex machina) in order for it to be a good event. At least that's what some people seem to criticize it as,in which case our senses of "a good story" are completely different.

I mean, there are some complaints about it (and it's really up to the opinion of the person),and that's their right of an opinion (no matter if I disagree with it or not),but it's just that...an opinion. One that I disagree with

But so far,Infinity is excellent.

Awesome artists,characters,interactions,plot,writing,etc...overall,it's great.

But if more people that took the poll liked Forever Evil, then that's their right and opinion.

If I were to call the book terribly written (which would just be my opinion and thus would be subjective,at least in the sense of me not liking it),then that would be my opinion (which it isn't,in my honest opinion. It's really good).

What I DO hate is when people try to state their opinion as if it's a fact. Like when they try to put others down for having different opinions or liking a certain material. I find that incredibly stupid.

It's like putting a person down for favoring the color red. An opinion is your own worthless opinion, not a fact.

And personally, the general consensus would disagree. At least in terms of Infinity.

By the way @wolverine08,this little part is not really directed at you and is mostly hypothetical. In fact,it's not directed at anyone in particular. And I apologize if it comes off as a rant and off-topic.

@hawkguy: No, that's not a joke. That's just how I felt.
