Comic Book Question of the Week Results: 02/26/13 'Who Should Be Robin?'

The community has voted and the next Robin will be...

The second 'Comic Book Question of the Week' has now come and gone. This week, I asked who you would want to see as Robin. A scenario was provided where the Boy Wonder left on his own terms, therefore making it fairly reasonable to believe Wayne would be okay with finding a replacement for his partner's tiny boots.

377 Viners voted and it was a close race between Harper Row -- the girl we believe will likely one day be a part of the Bat-family -- and Stephanie Brown, the fourth Robin. In the end, the community made it clear: they want to see Stephanie Brown in The New 52 and they'd love to see return to the Dark Knight's side as Robin again.

"Batman and Robin will never die!"

I must admit, I'm surprised Cassandra Cain didn't receive more votes. There's been plenty of demand to see her appear in The New 52, but I guess the thought of Stephanie Brown patrolling the streets once again with Batman is just too fun of a thought to resist.

It's too bad she wouldn't be able to interact with Damian if she did come back, though... they had such great moments together when she was Batgirl.

That said, I voted for Hit-Girl. I by no means think she'd be the "best" choice -- not by a long shot, actually -- but seeing Wayne try to reform her lethal methods as he takes her under his wing would be incredibly amusing. Although, if we're aiming for the most amusing, Doc Ock in a tight Robin costume is disturbingly hilarious...

Here's the voting results:

Viners, would you want Stephanie Brown to be the next Robin or did you vote for someone else? Don't forget to check back Tuesday for the next 'Comic Book Question of the Week!'

Wow i didn't think that many people liked Harper Row. Especially over the other chracters listed!

Love seeing Cassandra Cain getting some love.

I thought Cass was winning...darn it.

Oh well a guess the lesser Batgirl will have to do.

Posted by ccraft

If Damian somehow doesn't come back, I hope there won't be another Robin. It just doesn't make sense that Batman would have another sidekick, his son died. That's the end of the Robins. If Tim went up to Batman saying "Batman needs a Robin" he's going to get punched, in the face!

Hit-Girl would make a hilarious Robin IMO.

Posted by Dark_Guyver

I didn't know that many people around her like Harper Row so much. I just can't get into her character.

OOOoooh, burn :p

I think I would prefer Cass as well.....

Seriously NO MORE ROBINS unless its Damian come back from the dead. Having Batman have another Robin after the death of his only biological son just doesnt make any sense. Sure the same couldve been said after the death of Jason but I feel this will hit Bruce even harder.

On that note I REALLY want Damian to come back soon!

I would love to see Stephanie back in some capacity. Her stint as Batgirl was great and a lot of fun. Her turn as Robin was really short. I would even be happy if she came back as Spoiler. I would like to see Cassandra Cain return as well but not as Batgirl or Robin. She needs to forge her own solid identity.

i think if nightwing took on a sidekick under the mantle robin could be interesting batman has had enuff robins die in action for a few more yrs anyway

I'm curious about something. Who voted for Doc Ock?

I am pretty much keep saying this why are people wanting Robin back? I don't mean any particular character but since his OWN son died in the suit, Batman would NEVER let anyone wear the Robin suit again. It's the end of Robin. and if not the DC writers have a poor perspective of Bruce's Wayne's character because he would never let any be Robin again he was bad when Jason died but remember this IS his OWN son who died any parent would never let anyone replace their dead child even if it is fiction.

I want Stephanie as Robin and Harper Row as the new Oracle The New 52 needs one.

Posted by Phaedrusgr

Let Tim reprise the role. Stop expanding the bat family.

Posted by PrinceIMC

If they do ever make Stephanie Robin please hide that blonde hair, it's just too much. Something half way between a Batgirl costume and a Robin costume would work.

Posted by Mini_Bat

I voted for Steph but would hate if they bring her back as robin, I don't understand how Harper row got so many votes.

I think Cass didn't get many votes cause, she the last person people wan't to see as a sidekick.

To everyone saying "Batman shouldn't have another Robin!"

In the opening paragraph:

A scenario was provided where the Boy Wonder left on his own terms, therefore making it fairly reasonable to believe Wayne would be okay with finding a replacement for his partner's tiny boots.

More specifically (from the first article):

Let's pretend for a moment that Joker's plan over inScott Snyder's 'The Death of the Family' went better than expected. In fact, it went so well that Batman's own son and current Robin, Damian Wayne, has decided to go back into the not-so loving arms of his mother, Talia al Ghul(don't argue semantics... just work with the silly scenario, people). Batman realizes there's no chance of winning back his son in the near future, and he decides he needs to fill Robin's shoes.

Exactly Cassandra or Steph becoming Robin would feel a bit like a step backwards in my opinion. Though with all this crazyness going on in the Bat Family I would love to see them both FINALLY appear in the New 52 it's the perfect time!

Hopefully Robin's done now. They've been good but always better once they've gone their own way. Case in point, Nightwing is awesome!

Has anyone considered the possibility that it could be squire? I mean knight is dead and she has no partner. I way prefer her to freaking Harper.

Posted by queenfrost_

UGH harper row...rme

and I dont want stephanie back as robin :( I want her back as stephanie

Posted by shackle

Realistically, there should be no more Robins. Bruce Wayne can no longer justify putting sidekicks in harms way given his track record. (One could say, however, that Damian was a twisted little cretin before he ever came to Bruce, and Bruce was actually doing Damian a favor by "channeling" Damian's violence.) Comics being comics, however, I'm sure there will be another sidekick to be put in mortal danger by Batman soon enough; gotta appeal to the "teenage sidekick" demographic and keep those sales up.

Posted by StMichalofWilson

Any of the following female characters are good to be Robin. But mostly Steph

Posted by dmkicksballs13

Harper Row? She's made, what, three appearances? She's just some faux-punk rock chick with a gay brother. Am I missing something?

Posted by haydenclaireheroes

I would love to see Stephanie Brown as the new Robin

Posted by Shipster360

what I can see happening is Harper Row forcing herself into the role. she already seems to be a bit rebellious. Batman will obviously try to stop her but she keeps showing up and shes untrained so Bruce decides the only way to keep this girl alive is to train her.

Damian!

@noj: Agreed wholeheartedly!

Posted by Cavemold

That will never happen

Posted by Pwok21

Damien, failing that Doctor Octopus.

Posted by tjs4759

@ccraft: Agreed. He didn't just lose a sidekick, he lost his only child. I don't think anyone should or will replace him. At least not for the foreseeable future.

Posted by Fantasgasmic

Hit-Girl is the obvious choice. Cass, I fear, would be too similar to Damian, being a born and bred assassin, who needs to be taught how to live in the normal world. Would someone please explain to me the appeal of Harper Row?! I don't care about her at all, I'm SURE that DC is gonna make her the next Robin, but to me it feels like she's being forced upon us without having any character of her own.

Posted by JamesKM716

This is probably going to offend someone, but for me Robin has always been a guy's role. Batman and Robin don't have the same dynamic if they're a chick. And I get that it'll be different just because it's a new Robin, but still I infinitely prefer a male Robin.

That's partially why I DON'T want Harper Row as Robin. Oracle? Sure, but not Robin.

Posted by humanfly26

i voted for Cassandra. If I had to vote for who I thought they were going to make Robin it would be Harper, but I would rather have Cassandra. Bruce had adopted her pre-New 52, and now we never see her anymore. I guess they wouldn't pick her because her story is too close to Damian's...

damn you for killing damian, morrison. DAMN YOU!!!!!!! (just kidding)

but to be honest, damian was my favorite robin and usually i don't read bat inc. but i had to pick this issue up and it was sad. :(

Posted by braynehurricane

No one. There's going to be a Robin. Probably Harper Row (unless she becomes Oracle). But frankly, if Damian stays dead, it just doesn't make sense for him to have another Robin. He doesn't really need Robin. I get there's stories about why he does, great ones, but the fact is that two out of four Robins have died (even if one did come back). It's absurd and reckless for Batman to take on another kid knowing those odds and I feel like, realistically, Bruce Wayne would have to know this and finally realize that he just can't do it anymore.

I mean, he has a 'no kill' code he stands by... Yet half his partners wind up dying and he continues recruiting? Seems absurd to me. At least make sure they're not freaking children.

Haha! I said almost exactly this, not even noticing your post. Guess I didn't have to waste time typing it up when you said it just as well! I agree completely. Damian dying should absolutely be the end.

I know there were spoilers everywhere for Batman Inc 8, but I avoided them until this poll went up. Not reading it just the title underneath another article title SPOILERS BATMAN INC 8, on top of that the cover (which isn't always literal but still). Disappointing cause it would probably have hit home a lot harder. Not Comicvines fault, but marketing and DC in general I suppose. Too bad. I don't think there should be a new Robin. It just would seem out of character for Batman to do that, especially with his own son and Especially so soon. I like Harper Row, but more of an Oracle character than a Robin. High hopes.

Posted by Cavemold

I hope we dont see a robin for at least 2years. Also robin must be 18

This is how I feel as well. Since we have a Batman and Robin book, we obviously are going to have another Robin. I just wish we didn't.

I'm surprised that Stephanie won, considering it's totally her fault that WAR GAMES happened.

Posted by Sleepbutnodream15

Harper Row? Are you guys serious? Do you really think an emo girl with nose piercings would be make a cool Robin? Honestly, I'm pretty sure she's gonna be the next Oracle. I'm not stupid enough to say I'd stop reading Batman cus of this, but I'd definitely ignore every panel she's in and/or pretend she doesn't exist.

Posted by johnkmccubbin91

Although I voted Steph, and would like to see her in the New 52 (preferably as Spoiler), it's be better if Tim went back as Batman's sidekick but still as Red Robin, as it's not really a replacement plus it gives someone for Batman to work with. Plus also it technically keeps the Batman and Robin all be it Batman and (Red) Robin

I think its way too soon to even consider a new Robin, but I do think Harper Row is definitely going to be a new addition to the Bat-family. Maybe as Robin, or maybe as a brand new identity.

I didn't vote this week. I didn't know who to vote for. Hopefully next week I can with ease. This is a very fun thread/article/idea/segment/series you've created K4TZ.

  • Stephanie Brown-I was debating on voting for the 1st 4 on this list
  • Harper Row: I was going to vote for her since I thought it was Roy Harper, but then I realized it wasn't so I was too disappointed to be certain I would vote for her.
  • Tim Drake: For me its like picking Nightwing. I prefer him not going back to be Bats sidekick even though he(bats) needs support.
  • Cassandra Cain: As Robin? Hell No! I probably would have voted for her though, If I remembered about this yesterday.
  • Hit-Girl: I wanted to vote for her, but she's not even from DC. I wanted my vote to be more realistic than fun.
  • Michelangelo: I love him but NO
  • Wally West: A super fast robin does not intrigue me
  • Doctor Octopus: (his lack of votes is disturbing) No him as Robin is disturbing
  • Jubilee: Really?
  • Prowler: Again not DC

@bunkerbuster05: That can easily be rectified by having a previous Robin team up with Bruce over issue or arc.
